Thanks Brian👍😊 I love FJ Cruiser's great vehicles. Overfilling crank case by that much causes extream pressures which will blow out seals for sure. Although Gates makes good belts in my experience they will begin squeaking after a time sounds like a pulley bearing going out. I replaced belt with an OEM Toyota belt problem solved. I only use genuine Toyota brand parts. I appreciate all your videos and Thanks😊

This just happened to mine, but it was due to the front main already leaking and causing the belt to slip. Thanks for the info, now I know I can do this without pulling the engine!

I ended up getting this job done this weekend, I had a bad oil leak, and it looked like it was coming from the timing cover behind the power steering pump, somehow the oil was getting thrown all over the front of the engine, I used oil dye and the goggles and uv light kit from autozone, and seen the oil streaming from behind this crank pulley. I pulled it apart with the pulley holder tool I got on ebay for 22$ and a 25" breaker bar and cheater pipe cause my pulley bolt was stuck on there but I got it off. I already had the Pittsburgh seal puller tool from harbor freight so I used it and the seal popped right off. I got the toyota seal and basically used a 2 inch pvc pipe and hammer to tap it into place. I couldn't get the seal to go in perfectly straight, but in the end, it was seated just about perfect after being very very careful not to damage the seal. It's an easy job and it fixed my leak

I’m a little bit confused, Toyota says 217 ft lbs for crank bolt torque for 1gr-fe engines but you’ve torqued yours to 185. Which one is right ? I’ll be changing my front main seal pretty soon.

On the four pulleys I would take them off and clean them all and shake them side to side, you can hear and feel if your bearings are worn you will feel movement and possibly hear it. Definitely change them. With the belt being shredded, I would suspect All four of the tensioner pulleys as the real issue shaking side to side after 100,000 miles. Mine was like that, did not shred completely but inspected all the bearings and this happened on my 07 4wd Sp Ed model

Brian , I have a ranger rover sports 2010 . It’s pretty much the same issue , some oil leak and driving belt snapped. when It snapped first time it took with it alternative and ac compressor . I recovered it straight to garage , there was no oil leaks up-till this time . I got it back from the garage and started noticing oil leaks from the front . I thought it’s power steering fluid because when the belt snapped first time I noticed very heavy steering . So I check the power steering fluid it was almost empty . I top it up . Few days back the belt snapped again and I was told by the recovery guy it’s oil everywhere as it’s leaking which is causing the belt to snap . So I’m confused garage asking 6k saying they will have to take the engine out clean it and diagnose the oil leak cause . Need your advice . Thanks in advance

My serpentine belt are super soak in power steering oil and is making a sound. The belt is still in good condition (only 40 thousand miles) and still look good but cause my power steering pump been leaking oil down the belt its super soak. Causing loud noise now. Engine degreaser didn’t remove the all the oil oil soak in the belt. Should i try to clean it well and also use a belt conditioner? Or should i just buy a new belt.

And what I love is that job pays .5 hours on flat rate to “replace the belt” gotta love it.....might get lucky for them to add the harmonic balancer job at 1 hour so 1:5 hours make 30$ to fix that dealer make 200......ugh

@HowtoAutomotive

Andywensheng cao It’s hard to say without seeing it. I would try to thoroughly clean it where you think it’s leaking once it’s clean started up and watch it if it leaks from the pan then replace it if it’s not we can connect pan is leaking from somewhere else.

I never need to look up routing diagrams. Eat up time looking it up. Smooth backside of belt always touches smooth pulley and groove side of belt always touches grove pulley. Have my belt back on before many techs can even locate the diagram on their computer screen. Then they forget if it is complex with many pulleys. Then they have to go back and look it up again or have to print it out. All wasting valuable time not making money especially if flat rate tech. My way using my tip I never have to worry about forgetting or having to remember anything. Works 100% of the time. It is idiot proof by design from the factory. Everything else not so idiot proof. You can report back here and let everyone know how it goes so people are more aware of this secret. Don't know how or why the tech schools don't teach this or know this.
