It’s late at night and you’re tucked into bed, waiting to fall asleep. Just as you’re finally drifting off, you hear the sound of something moving next to your head. Jolting upright, you check the pillow and surrounding sheets for the source of the noise. But nothing’s there…
Laying back down, you try to relax. As your eyes close, you hear a rustling sound in your left ear. Frantically looking around, again you find nothing.
This is maddening.
You start to wonder…
Is it all in your head?
And when you feel something move inside your ear, you’re horrified by how right you really are.

My mom and i have both been bitten by brown recluse spiders. It melted a quarter sized hole on my hip. Mom got it a lot worse, it basically melted the skin off the entire front surface of her knee. It was incredibly disgusting in both cases but oddly not painful for either of us despite the obvious severity of the wounds

The lack of pain is due to the paralysis. Anesthesia is based on a similar concept.

Brown Recluse bites are necrotic, which is why it ate away at your skin. It can be a very fatal bite, you're lucky you got it taken care of when you did.

I woke up once with a fly in my ear - I heard buzzing and scratching and felt the crawling in my ear in the middle of the night. Had I been fully awake, I probably would’ve freaked tf out, but I was so tired and done with the impromptu wakeup call that I distinctly remember thinking “I’m not going to A&E for this”. I plugged my nose with one hand, opened up my ear with the other, and tried to pop my ears. Little f*cker finally flew out after about 30 seconds, I smacked it flat against the wall and I went straight back to sleep 😂

Same, I was sleeping. And lay on my left side. And used my left hand to removed it on my right. And smooshed it. With my fingers. I was 80% asleep. Wasn't sure if it's a dream or real. I even look for the dead fly but can't find it. This the 2nd ever time it happened. First it's when I was 4 ears old.

When I was a kid, I don't remember the exact age but it was definitely under 10, I had a bee fly into my ear. I didn't know what it was and stuck my finger in my ear and got stung. That started a decade long phobia of bees.
@hannah.kate.
@hannah.kate. 22 дня назад
@@poolhalljunkie9 funnily enough, my twin brother had the same thing happen - we were about 9, and he, my older brother, dad, and grandpa all went shooting rabbits in his orchard while me, my mum and grandma stayed at the house. 20mins in, we hear a gunshot, then a scream, and my mum rushes outside in a panic thinking my twin had been shot. My twin gets carried into the house screaming and we all panic more, until we’re told he strayed too close to one of grandad’s beehives and a bee flew directly in his ear and stung his ear canal. We had to extract it still writhing and buzzing in his ear before it died, and needless to say, he’s never been a fan of stinging insects since 💀

I had a live earwig removed from my ears back when I was a teenager after sleeping outside without a tent in a field. Went to a&e thinking I had a pebble or something in there and they had a look and sent me straight to ENT. The specialist said it was only his 2nd live insect in over 30 years in the field!

Most likely most people don't go to the ENT for many cases, which is why it's officially rare. I had an ant died in my ear once... didn't even realize it for days till I dug it out covered in a huge ball of earwax. A mosquito once flew in and out if my ear. Another time I had a hair stuck inside my ear, scratching my eardrum every time I move my head to one side.

Meh, I used to live surrounded by black widows and brown recluse in my house and property, and I never had any problems. As long as you don't harm them accidentally, you're good. Just shake out your clothes, shoes and sheets before you use them. That said, I still put an effort into outcompeting them with wolf spiders and cellar spiders, so now I'm mostly widow and recluse free.

I live in Australia, and just turned 41. However, when I was 12 I had a huntsman land of the back of my head (one of the largest spiders in Australia) in the middle of a hot summer night. Now, people have said they're relatively harmless. Try telling that to a 12 year old who was woken in the middle of the night, and has a hunstman facing them in a position that usually means they're going to attack! After an hour my mum managed to chase it out of the house, those spiders can really move. People say they raraley come across hunstmans... but once you've encountered 22 in your lifetime you start to doubt it. As it turns out, some people have never even encountered them... I would love to trade places with them! With most people they have an irrational fear of spiders, with me I think it's VERY rational and when I them this story they agree. Suffice to say, I never have windows open anymore.
