Unutterably superb motor with so much charisma. I do love the extra shove of the new 2.0, but the 1.5 is just as appealing to me for different reasons.
I wish we got the option in the US. I love the ND2 engine, it has such a great powerband and sounds amazing with the right exhaust. It's the perfect amount of power for daily driving in the US. On backroads though, it's nearly too much power...you hit 80mph+ pretty easily. The ND2 is properly quick. You can probably enjoy all of the 1.5L by comparison. A 1.5L with a tune would probably be the sweet spot for daily driving & canyon carving.
@@NDEEZMiata Which is the point, but sadly almost everyone is focused on specs and power, and it kills such cars, everything else became lame to drive and is dangerously fast with next to no feel at all. I wish Mazda made a 2+2 based off MX-5 that would be sized like Toyota 86. It would perfect daily toy to enjoy. If they made it a liftback or maybe even "shooting brake"(wagon/hatchback coupe) then even more so.
It's slower but more enjoyable they say. That revviness is charming and little engines at the front are lighter thus better balanced, so I think it works in Britain for drivers who appreciate that.😀
I have the 1.5 and on the UK’s windy country roads it’s plenty powerful enough and handles well. I’ve driven the new Supra on the same roads and it’s impossible to safely use the power of that car.
Every time i get a new car i look at the mx5 and never get it, the thing stopping me at the minute is....i want the beefier noise of the 2l, but then they massively improved the 2l in 2019, but they're twice what i was going to pay for the original 1.5. But most people who drive both, prefer the 1.5
I have a slightly modified 99 Miata and I love it but I someday want to own a new one but I just wish Mazda would make an option for power hungry Americans. I’ve owned a 475 hp 2018 mustang. A 250 hp Miata would be incredible.
@@Thomas-l9t I actually own a 145 hp 99 Miata for 20 years now and I just bought a 2023 Miata with headers and a tune. I own 2 Miata’s so I think I ‘’understand the essence of a light weight roadster”. I sold my mustang because I do prefer a lightweight sports car.
@@Thomas-l9t The essence of the 90's MX5 was it was an incredibly fun, cheap but very slow sports car for the masses. That was the essence of it. It's modern times and power can go up considerably without making it out of reach while keeping it just as fun in the twisties. While I haven't driven a 250hp (217wheel hp) MX5 so can't really comment, my own ND2 with 212hp (180whp) drives exactly the same but is more fun due to the added punch. You need to get with the times and stop dwelling in the very slow past. There's a reason why so many NA's have engine transplants or have big turbos.
@@andrewstevenson6540 that is maybe not too high considering 2.0 engines in Mazda 3/CX-30 can also rev something like that. But ND2 can rev even more afaik, like +500 more.
