IDK. I’m not in real estate and I’ve been in that exact apt (wife got an invite to an interior design function). It’s really not that exclusive to be in that space.
The funny thing, once you think out it, that's actually one of the lower end homes in that building. Your view are obstructed, you've got two big ass buildings between you and central park, the great room also has obstructed views.
I feel like a billionaire just by viewing your film. You've done it again. apartment like that cost a lot of money, and that one is no exception. To my knowledge, the billionaires building was surrounded by what appears to be every kind of luxury amenity, from restaurants to retail centers.
They'll just go buy elsewhere and take with them their property rates (yes, they pay the city rates that are sometimes higher than your rent and taxes combined) and jobs (average people like you and me service those buildings and use that money to raise their families) . Like it or not big investment is the lifeblood of every economy, take it from someone who is in Africa.
@@josetheman239 insightful comment. But, don’t U think there’s a balance that must be achieved?. If 80%+ of the city is foreign investors, then the city is not so “American”, locals must commute from far away to jobs inside the city. Cap foreign investments to no more than 30% of each building.
@@vicmarc4984 I really do not like seeing a nurse or policeman commuting from God knows where in a 5 o'clock train to the city every morning. Those people should be accommodated within the neighborhood they service. As far as ownership, I think some kind of cap might work but this problem is just way too complex, we do not know what unintended consequences that cap may ultimately have. All in all I do not know the answer but we could start by designating buildings or small pockets of the community for essential workers first.
@@josetheman239 thank you for this comment 🙏🏽. I am 1 of the 2 that you just mentioned and my commute was 1 1/2 hours just to get to work only to work 8 1/2 hours and drive hone for sometimes up to 2 1/2hrs. The housing the city offered was in the slums of DC. Thank god I don’t have to travel that distance anymore but my heart goes out to those that still have to.
@@josetheman239 Most of us would be better off having more affordable housing because the market for housing would be based on its actual use value rather than strictly as a random investment vehicle like modern art. Beyond the expense of building and maintaining the buildings, housing in NYC is only expensive because people decided to speculate on it as well as the plethora of welfare programs and rent control laws, which reduce the supply of market rate housing for people not lucky enough to benefit from them and actually have to work.
I was thinking the same. Doesn't really look comfortable and inviting. The people who buy these places will be very new money, so won't have all the nice little family things lots of people do, that make a home.
I thought exactly the same. Take away the furniture, and the unit itself is very boring and not creative. Basically just drywall everywhere. In this type of apartment I would expect some style, such as a feature wall, moldings, wainscoting etc...
Can you imagine being on the 95th floor during a crazy big earthquake? I am a tower climber and experienced an earthquake while I was on a 250 ft tower. Probably the most helpless I’ve ever felt.
As someone who was lucky enough to buy a beautiful lakefront property, I can assure you that "the view" is diminishing returns. After a while you get used to it and then it's only as impressive as a really nice photo. If you have $13 million, get a really nice $2 million apartment in NYC, stick the rest in the bank and live comfortably in the upper middle class for rest of your life without working. And put a nice poster of the view of central park in your living room.
I usually always skip the sponsor section of the video, but this time I stuck around and this sponsor is insanely cool! I'm gonna see if I can use this to rededcorate and fully furnish my bedroom
What sort of "luxury" apartment needs to make a feature of the dishwashers? At this price a dishwasher, laundry room, etc are absolutely basic features that you shouldn't even have to think about. Also, with spaces the size of the great room in this apartment you really need higher ceilings; this one looks like the ceiling is closing in on you.
Agreed. And that “gorgeous view”, is not that nice in my opinion. I’ve seen a lot better. Central Park is being blocked by two skyscrapers nonetheless.

The best thing is to have a good amount of money which nobody else knows about and not having to worry about financial headaches. Let everyone else think that you are just upper middle class. That's good enough. If people find out you are rich you CONSTANTLY have to be on the outlook for predators and people "wanting" stuff from you
Hi Erik. Great video! I grew up in NYC and love the super tall condos. This apartment is odd in that I've never seen a kitchen with a door; maybe it's just me? Keep up the great work👍
I never thought I would be in favor of an income cap, but I'm beginning to wonder given the disparity between the HAVES and the have nots. Greed is ruining the world and the greedy need to remember there are more people in the have not camp than in theirs. Remember the French Revolution.

“With a view of Central Park” … more like a glimpse. There’s two sky scrapers right in front of the window basically. I’d only ever buy something like this as a billionaire for sure. Even as a multimillionaire I would never overpay on something like this. There’s huge mega mansions for like 100mill
What is so great about a view of drug addicts shivving each other? It would be nice if it had a view of the ocean. But the den of criminality that is Central Park, not really. Even if it wasn't, still don't know what is so great about a view of a plain old park. Sure if it was some pristine nature reserve or something. But a park, yeah no. It is like Blade Runner, I dream of electric sheep. NY'er's are so thirsty for some natural space, that they pay 100's of million of dollars just to see an ordinary park. I saw a squirrel man. A squirrel! He has seen a squirrel, lucky basterd.

I don’t think youtube algorithm is so evolved that saying “Billonaires Row” every other line will get you more hits. Video should not be like a click bait website.
I am sure that the one's who own these kind of apartments must be living in an estate that's probably worth $200 million or more and are yet unhappy. On the contrary,I am a happy individual who was able to afford a smart phone a few years ago and watching such luxurious videos.😀
Do the windows open and I see no "patio's" or balconies? Not fond of the furniture, but that is personal choice. Location and views are superb, Fantastic space though and could do a lot with so much space. I would like to compare this apartment and price with some other's on Billionaire's row. Thanks for sharing Erik.
I don't think ny apartments are allowed to have balconies past certain heights. My old place was past the fifteenth floor and the rooms weren't even allowed to have windows that could open more than a crack. Owning might be a different story than renting though
I have a view of the Roan Highlands from the top of my hill. I’m 20 minutes from several beautiful waterfalls. I see bears, deer, warblers, and wildflowers all the time. And I had cornbread with supper. My rent is $500 per month I win💁
“right when you walk in you have a view of beautiful Central Park” yeah if you look past the Essex house and around the two buildings in your face and the Essex house has an led lighted sign for a night light too help you sleep at night 💀
imagine if these buildings had been made and used for affordable housing for the lower and middle class to ensure everyone in nyc has a place to live. so sad to see how we misuse space like this and continue to prioritize the upper class
Why do americans make such a big deal of Central Park like it's a breathtaking view. It's just a bunch of trees from above. The view of the tall buildings is much more beautiful than the park, especially at night.
Wait, so these people are so wealthy that they just *have* these beautiful, empty spaces, that they don't do anything with, while there are people literally freezing to death on the street? This is why the poor are pissed.

I always wonder if the people in the highest building get pissed when an even higher building gets built in front of them and blocks their once “million dollar view”. @@lawlacast7107 hahahah I love that you called Central Park "pathetic bushes" but as someone from Brazil, I second that Central Park is way too hyped. Perhaps because there is no real green in NY. Green makes a huge difference in my well being, I can say.
For someone who grew up with a single mother who was also taking care of my dying grandmother, going days with no other food besides top ramen and rice, being bullied for wearing the same old clothes and shoes to school, this type of wealth is beyond my understanding. According to the owner of the company I work for, this single quarter has been more profitable than the last 6 combined, all thanks to "inflation." Which is to say, he heard there was inflation and jacked our prices by 25%, then blamed inflation. I have to assume this is not uncommon.

You're right. These condos, apartments, houses etc are way overpriced. A normal, small cozy, one family home here in NYC is about 700-800 thousand dollars. The cost for a MANSION elsewhere is about the same. Hell, you can purchase a damn palace for $13 million elsewhere.
I’ve never understood how people could spend that much. Where I’m from 300k will get you a farm and ranch with your own lake. Who would want to live like this
I have to agree.. I’ve lived in both NYC and the woods in Florida and love the peace and quiet of the woods.. but each to their own..live where you love.
These buildings are going to flop like crazy. 50 years from now we are going to be watching a documentary about what a curious mistake this was that eventually had to be torn down because it became too expensive to maintain without enough customers paying for it.
Actually, New York real estate has been declining since people have moved away now that they can work from home, but billionaire's row is one of the few places that continued to rise in price. Like the video said, most of the buyers don't live there. It's an investment for them, and its been working. The value has continued to rise. It's not going anywhere. The only way for it to flop would be for a similar neighborhood to appear in an entirely different city somewhere else in the world.
The problems with all of these is, that 13,million is very less, if compared to some others, like in billionares row there r apartments worth like, 100M, 200M, even one that's 750M......if someone were to pay that much to buy a house/apartment they'd customize each and every brick, why would someone pay 750M for an apartment which is already built? The only thing I like abt penthouses or apartments r the breathtaking views but they r not worth the millions of dollars
@@Shrine_of_Karma What makes these unique is the privacy. Each apartment is an entire floor, and because the building owns the air rights, homeowners know for a fact that no other buildings will ever be built next to theirs. That means guaranteed privacy, silence, and a good view of Central Park. It's nearly impossible to be guaranteed that In NYC. Also, there are probably people who would pay extra for something already built since they don't want to go through the process of designing an apartment. You prefer something customized, but others might not.
This seems more like a 4-5 million dollar apartment, not 13 million. It's a shared floor with other apartments, nowhere near the top level and it has obstructed views which is a shame. Very likely to be deal breakers for someone willing to spend > $10 million on an apartment.
I think it's cool to see these apartments, and you, personally, make great content. But as someone who lived across the river on a street that faced these buildings, they are complete eyesores. They completely ruin the skyline and look hilariously out of place in the city. I'm still amazed that the developers were allowed to build buildings as tall as they are. You don't notice it when you're on the street, as everything looks huge, but once you get outside the city, it's jarring to look at. These huge glass towers that stick out like sore thumbs among the iconic buildings of Riverside Drive and midtown. Seriously, take a drive along Kennedy Blvd in West New York or North Bergen, or even sit at a restaurant along River Road in Edgewater, and all these buildings look goofy when you look at the city. It's not as noticeable from Queens/Brooklyn, from the NJ side of the Hudson, it's very strange. Additionally, these apartments sit empty for years on end, while there's homeless people in need of affordable housing.
do not cry about freedom to build whatever on your land and about capitalism to park wealth in appreciating assets and ignore homelessness unless you're willing to be a man and go all the way to the other side.
@@matletico The guy said the buildings are an eyesore and what about helping homeless people instead of building these monstrosities that nobody will live in anyway, and you found a way to be mad at him? For what?? With some vague psudo-economics BS, as well. Anyone can write the word 'capitalism', the aim is to put it into a sentence where it makes sense.
@@matletico yeah except the builders got tax exemption for the elites for barely anything. This isn't capitalism if you know the history behind these buildings it's gross negligence of the city and their own corruption to allow these buildings to exist. If it was purely capitalism sure, but it's not. They had to do some real scummy stuff to make sure they could build a super tall. And than did more scummy stuff to try and not pay taxes on it either
One more thing: those "billionaire" buildings are so skinny that they'd fall over at the slightest provocation. Especially if a giant ape or dragon showed up.

Views are often way overrated for everyday life. I've lived in a couple of places with great views in the city, but day to day you get to where you don't even really notice them most of the time. For me now, it's far more about the actual living space vs what's outside my window.
So true. Also those flats with huge windows just turn into black walls at night, not very homely. I prefer having less view and more walls so you can have bookshelves etc rather than just a spectacular view like you're in a fish tank. They're indeed overrated.
I just moved out of my college apartment and can attest to the idea that views are overrated. My bedroom had an amazing view of our front door. What this means is that I theoretically could have used my bedroom window as a peephole instead of the peephole on my front door in order to see who was at the door. Unfortunately, I was too scared to use it in such way because I feared that the person at the door would notice me spying on them as they waited by the door. All in all, this just goes to show that views can be overrated, no matter how great they may seem at first.
