We're going to see a lot of car dealerships go out of business over the next 4 to 12 months due to way overbidding at auctions and not being able to sell inventory. This isn't just for G-wagons, but for everything. The reckoning is coming, it just needs a little bit more time.

This is funny to watch. I work at a large Mercedes dealership in northern california and we were selling g63's at 100000 over msrp like hot cakes, couldn't keep them in stock. During one of the friday meetings our GSM was talking about the Illinois dealership that had like 125 g wagons in stock just buying up everything and how we needed to get some used ones back in stock. A lady who buys cars from us every 6moths or so traded in here 2021 g63 and I believe we gave her like 230k for it. Once mercedes made the announcement they were re making the g wagons we couldn't give that thing away. It sat for like 200 days and finally we sold it at like a 55k loss. I cant only imagine what the Illinois dealership is going through. I'm sure that buyer is fired.

Banks giving out loans of 120-125% is BAD! I worked in the mortgage industry back in 2007/2008 and this is the same exact thing that caused the bubble to pop.
@tr5946
@tr5946 2 года назад
All that matters is who you give the loan to. If you give a loan out for 150% over sticker but the chump pays his bills every month, not an issue. If you give a loan out for 75% of sticker with no repayment, good luck getting full value back after repo is all said and done.
@miker6472
@miker6472 2 года назад
Banks routinely give 110-115% loan to value on new cars to pay for TTL and often leave in wiggle room for service contracts. Another 5-10% for someone buying in the $100k+ luxury market does not seem like a huge cause for alarm.
@coreygarrett9545
@coreygarrett9545 Год назад
There’s a saying in commercial loans. If you don’t have 50% equity, you have no equity. Giving chumps who pay 125% loans sounds great until you get a monster wave of defaults and repos. A whole bunch of credit unions are gonna go under entirely after this year. The total losses in this space is gonna end up in the billions in a year after the repos pile up and there’s no buyer for all the bad debt and deflating cars.
@ZaneErickson
@ZaneErickson Год назад
They've always done this. Tier 1 credit at most banks will get your 145% to 150% out the door. This includes all taxes, state fee's, any trade in negative equity.

The way MB handled with G Wagen and some other cars during the pandemic, it made me never going back to MB for a long time. I enjoyed the AMG line cars starting with the E55 AMG, then CLS63 AMG with NA engine and a CL and SL 65 AMG was my last one. I saw the brand new 63 AMG was selling at over $300K, I laughed so hard... I would rather get an allocation from Ferrari and wait for a year to get it then get into a super overpriced G Wagen that every other house has in my town....

As a consumer, this is a great reason why dealers shouldn't exist. Manufacturers should sell direct at MSRP and cut out the middle man. If demand is high, then make more, don't charge more and pad your earnings. Sure there were supply chain issue at this time, but in general the above reasoning hold true.

IRS section 179 tax credit and PPP money. Every model owns one because they can deduct the full amount in the first year to offset their only fans profits. This isn’t some new or obscure tax law. The Hummer used to be the poster child for this tax law. Now it’s the G. Only Fans models are definitely more financially savvy. Hence why they don’t work W2 jobs like the overtaxed working peasants who punch clocks. The RU-vid influencer life is built full around your life being your business and therefore being able to deduct your whole life. If GM says that market value was intended to be $90,000 and the dealer makes you pay $120,000 just because they know you can't find it cheaper anywhere else, you will NOT have a $120K car. it's worth only $90K. I don't get why people waste their money like that...

Scarcity vs. demand vs. greed vs. cheap money reaches bubble burst and liquid asset freefall. The scarcity was provided due to Mercedes stopping production of the G-Wagon. Very high demand with influencers and not-so-influencers wanting the cult icon G-Wagon to show off. Dealer greed making up to $100,000 markup on a $150,000 vehicle and dealers selling to dealers in a perpetual cycle of price jumps. Cheap money including low-cost loans and crypto gains/manipulations. The hyperinflated bubble burst bringing non-cash assets down in quick succession; however, liquid assets (cash and quick-access) have followed suit for many as they try to nullify the growing costs of loans.

Here in Alaska people were bringing $30-$50k cashier's checks to open houses or even just walking in unscheduled and unannounced to another buyer's showing because they saw the sign in the yard or the realtor's car in the driveway and starting a bidding war right on the spot. The cashier's checks were IN ADDITION TO THE ASKING PRICE. People were buying $300K houses never having visited the state, off the internet, sight unseen. One couple I know was pre-approved for the sales amount, told the seller they would buy the house at asking price, seller agreed to the sale, drove to the bank to finish the paperwork and the seller called them before they had completed the paperwork to say someone had just given them a bank check for $40K over asking price. I think they said they lost or narrowly missed 5-6 houses due to similar events. These were nice but not exceptional houses in the upper $200K, lower $300K range.
@Frossyt

@@itsmatt2105 that's crazy. Everyone who bought a house in the last year and half is going to be upside down when these prices go back to normal. Whether it be in a year or 3.

@@Frossyt The bubble market, bringing cashier's checks to house showings started BEFORE COVID. It was mainly in the population center, where over half the state's residents live. My friends who lost out on the 5-6 houses told me about it and I was mystified. Oil production, by far the biggest driver for the state's economy, had been and still is declining with no expected turn around. Best we can hope for is for new production coming online to slow the decline but oil in Ak is never going to stage a comeback and there's nothing else to take it's place. I strongly advised my friends to sit tight as long as possible and wait for the bubble to burst but they have several kids and were living in the guest quarters of his sister's house and they really did need to get a decent place to live which they finally did through friends at church. They paid a high price for the square footage but the location and neighborhood is great and the sellers could have sold it immediately for $60-$80K more than my friends paid. Plus, they got the really low interest rate so they didn't get hurt. But I'm with you, the value fundamentals of the housing market aren't there, it's a bubble, everybody (should)knows it but, due to COVID and all Biden's "free" money, lots of people ignored the signs and waded in.
@Frossyt
@Frossyt Год назад
@@itsmatt2105 I can understand maybe 50k over but these people who are literally paying 200k plus for a house that's only really worth 200k is the people that are gonna really get hurt. I just never thought I'd see a day where a 300k house overnight sell for 800k. It's insane. I mean I understand that a home can increase in value, that's typical but 3x or 4x is what I mean.
@itsmatt2105
@itsmatt2105 Год назад
@@Frossyt I haven't heard of any California-level price increases up here but when Ak's economy busts, it REALLY busts and it's closely tied to oil. I'm a general contractor and I've heard stories of the bust up here in the late '80's where the prices dropped so fast some builders had to bring checks to the closing to make up the difference between what the buyer was paying for the brand new house and how much money the builder had borrowed to build the house. That really hurts. Not only did he work frantically for most of 6 months and not get paid, he had to PAY to get out from under the mortgage!! He could have stayed home and sat on the couch and been money ahead.

this is why good dealerships need their bread and butter cars where you sell fair and honest with it, yeah you can buy a few speculator ones like Currated likes to make by jacking what is esentally a limited production junk heap with a self destroying motor and saying its worth 3 million bucks with those miuras, but at the end of the day, its only worth what people will pay for it, and if you feed too much into a luxury item that no one needs like that eventually it comes back at you, granted a miura is a work of art, but at this point I think it would be far smarter to just make the body yourself and save yourself 2 million 900K and shove a chevy motor in it which actually kinda did happen with one of them, its how leno got that motor for his Dean Martin miura that had a blown engine back in the day that someone gave to him as it just wasnt worth anything, someone took one, got so tired of the motor and put a 350 small block in it and then sold HIM the motor for the Dino car lol I mean great car, and all that, but 3 million, as every italian wiseguy would say asking that for that fire pit, get the F outta here lol 250K or I'll just build one myself lol

There is crazy money spent on vehicles but the one part that I don't understand is posting pictures on social media like Insta Gram. What type of people post images on their cars on social media? Do these people buy these cars to actually enjoy them or just to make images to share? I've even seen some pictures where they put stickers on their cars with the Insta Gram name. Pretty cringe.

You can blame the Mercedes Dealers for pushing BS that Mercedes was "done" making V8s and turning that into forever thing. Then never said they were going to stop forever. It was always just a temporary thing, but dealer salespeople were insisting it was forever. l'm glad it fell through and they got left holding the hot potato. It serves them well for trying to rip off people... KARMA is a B1&#@!!!!
