My first dive into the emulation rabbit hole, was in 2014 when I first emulated Crash Bandicoot 2 (PS1 game) on my Galaxy S4. At the time, I could not believe something like that was actually possible, where I am able to play fully featured console games on my phone. After I discovered emulation, I have never looked back at mobile games, since even in 2014 many of them was cash grabs and it has only gotten worse over the years. Now about 10 years later, I'm rocking a S20 FE (last S series phone to still support a micro SD card) with a 256 GB micro SD card that is packed to the brim with ROMs😄.
@@flamingkitsune2792 Yeah my biggest regret is that affordable gaming handheld PCs were not a thing when I was a kid. I mean I enjoyed Gameboys and DS but I can't say I've ever been a fan of closed ecosystems

When it comes to mobile games, I tend to mostly play console ports such as Fortnite, Wreckfest, and SpongeBob Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated. Emulation is a breath of fresh air for mobile gaming as you can play a ton of classic games on your phone. Cloud gaming is pretty cool, but your experience will vary depending on your internet connection and the service you are using.
i just bought an Asus Zenfone 9 andI love it, and it absolutely has gaming specs, but I dont actually play anything other than Clash of Clans. also it has a headphone jack built in

Of which, they won't even remaster those games or anything either, just straight up use the same freely available emulators/roms to do it, like they did with the nes mini and people figured out how to add their own roms to it.

Ive been having a lot of fun with game pass and my backbone. Emulation works great too with my faved gba games and the like. Mobile gaming is in a really good place right now i feel. Especially if that new PS streaming device brings PS5 games to mobile
I agree, mobile gaming is in a pretty good spot right now. At the moment, emulation and cloud gaming are carrying mobile. Mobile has some good console ports, but they are overshadowed by the pay to win garbage.

Why I have a Steam Deck dot mov I honestly don't emulate that much. I've always been on PC and my PC game to console game ratio is hundreds to one Mobile games get a bad name due to being overwhelmed with slot machines in disguise, but there are totally normal games available. I played Limbo, Wreckfest and SpongeBob BFBB on my phone. Nothing wrong with Minecraft either, it's the same as the console version
As a s23 ultra user, if you have access to 5G speeds on the go, it's very possible to play remotely to your PC via Parsec. One complaint would be the half baked keyboard support that Parsec mobile has currently.
Cool story. I've been hacking Memory Card saves for Playstation Final Fantasy Tactics. The saves themselves are only 8k. But there's a LOT in that 8k, and while there ARE save editors for it, they got 4 problems: 20 years old, no actual documentation, no source code, and they only work on DexDrive Save Files. I'm documenting EVERYTHING. I'm NOT writing a save editor. All I'm doing is what the writers of existing save editors failed to do: documenting the HOW of it, so others can write their own. Or edit manually. I don't give a shit.
@@MaleficWeegee having the right balance of giving a shit and not giving a shit is key. I give a shit enough to document my findings. I DON'T give a shit enough to write a save editor. All I have is a rudimentary parity generator that takes WAY too long to run, but I need it if I want to generate fully custom save files. Suppose I could publish that, but with the right info, someone could make one in one of the C-family of languages that'd run like 100 times faster. Mine's written in bash and heavily dependent on Linux/Unix programs.
You seem like an interesting person. Are you a programmer? Why do you do this? Do you really like the game, do you like tinkering with binary files, are you very proficient with similar things and this is just a small hobby project, some combination of everything? I have a similarly strange project, though mine is less obviously fun. I have been slowly writing a system monitor/task manager program in X, and upon realizing there are no widgets in raw X, I decided to write my own small GUI layer on top of X.
@@danilafoxpro2603 i do it out of boredom. I'm no programmer. Hell, it took me 4 days to write a parity checking script. In bash. And it's highly effective, but extremely inefficient.
@@seancondon5572 Be careful, you might accidentally become a computer engineer, doing things like that. :D This is impressive and somewhat technically deep; not sure how many programmers nowadays know how data is actually laid out in memory or in save files, bit-wise. Do you have any other interesting projects you do out of boredom?

Emulation sucks. Would rather play 1000000000 mobile games. Playing old games with bleh graphics ain't great. Not to mention the set up with the roms and bios files. Just gonna say it right there. And your comments saying that it will run better than the switch lmao, unless you have an 8 gen 2, not at all. And your description didn't really sound too good on your s23 ultra stating that your phone overheats like mad playing switch games,( not even demanding switch games). Not to mention low battery life ue to the emulation overhead. Not to mention most phones aren't faster than the switch and the ones that are aren't by a large marigin like only by a bit. The 8 gen 2 in modern phones isn't ps4 level at all it is like half. I found this video just a bit weird in general. I wouldn't go over and state these chips are too impressive it is 2023 lol and the best 1200 dollar phone overheats and throttles playing undemanding switch games. I wouldn't go over and call it amazing.
I wanted to try LSDJ, but surprisingly my phone really struggled with emulating a mere GameBoy smoothly enough. I know my phone is not top of the line and a few generations behind, but it should at least be more powerful than, say, a Raspberry Pi, which runs GameBoy just fine.
You may have a lot of bloatware running without your knowledge. Cheap Phones are Bloated quite a lot most of the time, and even Flagship Samsung are preloaded with a bunch of useless crap
Yes, unfortunately OS updates could have slowed your phone, or general bloatware. Without having a rooted phone with access to a real task manager like 3C it's hard to figure out what's going on You might even want to look into backing up all your files and game saves if you can and install a completely new and rooted OS free of bloat

Didn't even think of using my phone as a full emulation machine. Been playing pgr and star rail as my main mobile games, but emulation should take away the other 126 gbs of space
Let's be honest, portable or not, emulation is great, I remember emulating all sorts of things on my PSP and 2DS, even playing them more than the actual games of the system at times, while on PC most of what I play is emulated so I don't have to deal with the industry BS of new games, I can enjoy classics just fine! But one huge part of why portable emulation is great you skipped out on is that, unlike normal phone games or portable games on gaming systems, you have savestates, meaning you can literally stop playing at any moment without needing to reach a checkpoint or save or anything, and pick back up whenever you want again! Let's say you are on the train and it's your stop, you can savestate immediately, then when you have time again, resume right from where you were.
Funnily enough i have been getting the itch to buy a device that would do all you have laid out here. So i just need to get a new phone...sounds like a better plan than the arduino projects i was thinking of...

Dude my Gpu died on me 9 month ago and I didn't have the money to buy new Gpu ( i had gtx 1080 so you see where I coming from) And Ever since then , i started to use this sick budget setup Where I connect my s23 to my monitor via usc c and use Samsung dex Then connect a xbox controller and mouse via Bluetooth And have a semiconductor mag safe megnatic cooler/wireless charger attached to my phone 😂🥲 nonetheless it's working with me And I'm really happy to c someone like you making the best of what he got 😁
