►WE USE THIS SOUND RECORDER (AMAZON) - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
Stuff we use:
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/425k5rG
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/3WEuz0k
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv

I think that's a better way to go than overloading on advice and learning all these structures and formulas. None of that will give a story heart

I think what's really powerful about that Rocky scene is the vulnerability. It could almost be Rocky talking to himself and his own fears/dreams. Is he willing to take his shot, even knowing he could be humiliated and have all the esteem and momentum he has built up shattered? He's at a crucial turning point, but he now has Adrian for moral support, when both of them have been beaten down by life. I also saw that as he finally has something at stake [if he gets injured it would ruin his future with Adrian] whereas before it didn't matter what happened to him in the ring. It also rhymes with the earlier apartment scenes where he had nothing but two turtles, and where he ranted at Mickey for never had a shot.

Rory, everything you are talking about is very relatable to me, especially the part about knowing who I don't want to be because I can only be me, this is 'the role' of my life ❤ It is so much better to keep things light and to enjoy yourself. While I haven't seen the majority of the movies you are talking about, I did see the trailer for The Sixth Sense and i also saw Rocky and some Clint Eastwood's movies while I was living in Poland. I remember the poster scene in the movie Rocky and the entire movie has made a big impression on me, and there were some rough scenes in there where I had to close my eyes. Also, that was so beautiful what you described from the Secrets in the Sky! We never know what can move a person, even if it seems like if they don't know what is going on around them. Human hearts do communicate better than human brains. Such a a fantastic interview! Thank you so much Film Courage! 😊

Love your channel. One suggestion. Split it into two channels. One for full interviews. Another for excerpts like this. The current channel is hard to navigate because there are too many playlists. There is a New Full Interviews playlist but it is difficult to find, buried among the other playlists.

What’s your favorite scene from Rocky?

When Mickey comes into his apartment and is trying to be nice to Rocky and Rocky just isn’t having ANY of it. He’s steaming then let’s Mickey have it. Mickey shuffles away, leaving the apartment as Rocky is STILL blowing off steam. Cut to Mickey walking away from Rocky’s place down the lonely street, then Rocky comes out and goes after Mickey and from their body language we can tell that he probably apologized and the two “made up”.
