I recall a bit of a rivalry between Rick James & Parliament/ Funkadelic. (Media even tried to pit Rick against Boosty Collins). The other band members of PFunk claimed Rick was copying them. I didn't see that. I felt their styles were different. Later on when Rick's famous Street Songs album hit the market- it killed off all those rumors. All focus was squarely on Rick because that album dominated pop, R&B and even made waves on the Rock & Roll scene. Then came Rick's drug problem, PFunk mothership left for a distant galaxy, but Prince kept holding steady and on and on and on...
What started this was (maybe out of jealousy) Rick started teasing Prince about his height, calling him "The Little White Boy" and even one night were Rick put Prince in a headlock and forced 0(+> to drink liquor from a bottle!!!! While opening for Rick's FIRE IT UP tour, Prince purposely did Ricks act/show!! This went on for many nights until Rick and management had heated meeting with Prince and Princes' management. (Prince found it funny to be doing this to Rick) . Rick borrowed (without asking) one of Princes keyboards and recorded his Street Sounds album with it and then sent it back with a thank you note!
I liked some rick james but there will NEVER be another work ethic nor SUPER-TALENT like Prince. It AMAZES that out of all of the competition back in the day, Prince was the ONLY one that rose to the mega superstardom of michael jackson and got compared to him. I will ALWAYS respect Stevie Wonder for saying that Prince was GREATER than michael jackson. Prince gave his ALL and then a whole lot MORE. His work was done when God called him Home to Glory. I still can't believe that Prince is no longer with us. I thought that he would have outlived all of us.
Oh please. Rick James had alot of problems with other singers/musicians. It did get worse when Vanity went to the American Music Awards with Rick James and left with Prince. But I don't believe that Rick James and Denise Matthews were a real couple in the first place.
That just tells me that Rick got mad at Prince. Because he stole the spotlight from him. And Rick came up with this narrative. That Prince was stealing his show by doing all sorts of things that Rick was doing. I did not see that I just think. Prince as an opening act, that was your mistake. You cannot be a follow up act after prince 😢
Right on! That was the mistake because Prince stole the show! But Prince could’ve took some moves but he blew up so that was the issue ultimately I think!
I love Rick James! But Prince is my all time favorite! So, why would Prince steal Rick's so called moves? Lol. Any show I saw Rick do, he either lip sang or his moves were not worth speaking of. James Brown did the mic thing, so it wasn't Rick's anyway. Rick has a great catalog, but not like Prince 😉 Rick was jealous, Prince wasn't bothered.
Please look at the videos of early Prince and his moves. I never saw Rick James perform at that time, but Prince’s moves were, to me, Mick Jagger’s. Or I’ll say, inspired by Mick Jagger.
I was never a fan of Prince outside of his music.... BUT the more I hear about him, the more eye rolling I do... His personality was just UGH...horrible.
Nah Rick from the Queen City . Rick be af the club building a tab and buying angora sweaters for the shorties .. there is a lot more from people that hung with him Its all good
As the description says that I wrote with the video that this is all in Rick James memoir titled “Confessions of Rick James Memoirs of a Super Freak by Rick James”. His words not mine. Thanks for watching though ❤
