Call of Duty Warzone is recieving Verdansk in March 2025 as part of the overarching Black Ops 6 intergration. But will Verdansk fit with the omnimovement system? and what version of verdansk are we getting?
I kinda think some of the things you are complaining about were actually the secret sauce that made the map so accessible to players of all skill levels. The void spaces were good low risk places to land on the regain and grab a most wanted. The transition spaces actually made vehicles important and created some great vehicle to vehicle combat moments. Places like the Airport tower and other easily defendable positions were unbalanced but create interesting game play moments, and whilst easily defendable are difficult to escape from. The new maps and mechanics cater to playing aggressively and using redeploy balloons to land on everyone's head, Verdansk catered to more gameplay styles and created more varied engagements
Importantly they forced lots of asymmetric engagements. I think a lot of pro gamers think that any map feature that's inconvenient for their style of play is "bad", when really it's opening up alternative playstyles. Of course if you're playing for kills on RU-vid, you're going to be annoyed at a wide open space that makes it hard to attack a team on the other side, but for more tactically minded players who are counting on planning and positioning to compensate for their lackluster gunplay, those open spaces are a defensive killing ground. If people want fast-paced gunplay, CoD multiplayer is two clicks away. But the asymmetry and strategy are the things that I really enjoy about BRs.
One of my favorite things about verdansk as a sweat was the camping spots. Not because I loved fighting them, but because I knew where people were going to be camping. No reason to hide in the random shack when there’s a nice defendable building right there. It made it much easier to predict where people would be compared to something like urzikstan or almazrah, which have a ton of medium 2 story buildings that people could be in any one of.
I fully agree. I'm a below-average player in Warzone, but on Verdansk, I had about 1.2KD. Since all the Warzone maps became close-quarters or way too much verticality, I gave up playing Warzone. Those flights of stairs made the game more interesting; now there are vertical and horizontal zip lines everywhere; it doesn't feel like a pub G battle royal anymore. It feels like a sweatfest. I, for one am looking forward to Verdansk, I hope they don't ruin it with zip lines. One thing I'd like to see is the riverbed filled with water, blackout was awesome as boats were a thing; bring back water and put some boats on the map.
They ended up catering for the sweats and content creators because of all their crying and basically ruined the game. It's a battle Royale and the aim of the game is to be the last to survive. If you're running round the map like an idiot trying to rack up kills and get taken out by a team holding a building / Power position then you need to get better or just play multiplayer not cry like a baby. The term "camper" just came from bitter players getting ruined by teams who play tactically for the win 🏆
@@professional_cynic98we haven’t even played wz with the new movement yet. We can dive and shoot that’s all it is. You people make such big deals out of nothing.
Warzone has never been a true battleroyal. It’s always been a large scale team deathmatch. Battle royals are about RNG not buying the best guns at the start of every match
@riisky2411 no I'm just saying CoD was simple, everyone forgets slide cancelling was a broken mechanic in WZ1, its just been popularised by streamers and 14 year olds. Omni Movement feels like we might aswell as have building like Fortnite and one shot pans like PUBG. I'm not making a deal about it, I'm actively not playing it nor buying it nor participating with its development. Corner peaking and lean should be looked into for that real milsim feel. But who the f*ck has ran around like a godda*n cat on cocaine in Afghanistan or Iraq?
The way the game looked, felt, and I played during OG Verdansk was far superior, imo, than what Warzone is today. The floating loot, the map, the more simplified gunsmith, the looting system/no backpack. I know people say its success was mainly due to COVID lockdowns but I disagree. I believe it was the best COD BR we will ever see
the "dead spaces" and strong power positions was a big part of the original verdansk. it forced you to play in a specific way depending on where the zone pulled. it gave the game more variety. you just want to clutter it up and make it just like any of the other newer maps.
I hate listening to this guy whine about issues only professional gamers have. Verdansk was perfect for the man who didn’t have 8 hours a day to dedicate to being a sweat-lord.
Mw19 was just better in every way. I’d probably pay £500 to play this game again. It’s not nostalgia, and it’s not the map. It’s how good the core mechanics were. Everything just felt amazing
@@husain_119 bro I played that game from start to finish and came across a hacker about 4 times in all those years. They just weren’t that common unfortunately
The barren places and open fields are one of the greatest things IMO. The rotations are much more creative and you need to plan ahead more, which is a thing I really enjoyed. The other places on the sides were great as well, when the circle was pulled that way it made for some really awesome end circles. I hope they bring back the old circle system too, because now it tries to hard to end in the middle of the map instead of a random place such like the prison in Verdansk or besides boneyard. Verdansk wasn't perfect at all, but the imperfections made it really great! I hope they don't try to balance it too much.
Some good points. You need to be able to loot a weapon in every area of the map. However, MW2019 had amazing gunplay and that is what people are missing.
strongly disagree to be honest - what you call "dead space" made for a much lager variety of gameplay. bottom left, for example, was always an interesting final circle!
I liked the “dead spaces.” They weren’t dominated by buildings and tended to involve fighting in trees or trenches where no team had a clear advantage.
And the left side of boneyard was PRETTY GOOD because of its elevation, trees and craters... I remember using the natural cover for rotations and it always worked
I disagree, i believe the gameplay will be fine. It seems as if you forget we had bunny hopping * 3 or 4 and infinite tac sprint while your gun was out which meant you can traverse faster more consistently. The movement was simple, gunplay, and rotations yes, but they had a layer of complexity as the game continued into its lifespan. Another thing about negative space on the map, it has its purpose in order to carrol players in certain directions, having a densely packed map such as many of the newer maps creates a messy play area where there is no downtimes and no focus on particular areas since every area is a point of interest. The intentional or unintetional dead space created funnels for players to navigate in certain directions and areas in which they dropped for specific types of gameplay styles. Vechiles still need a additional revision too, as they were better in the previous version of the game. However, the reasons I prompted are why I disagree with your anaylsis on the map design, I could say maybe add some cover in sparse areas around airport and some others, but I personally believe that the way the new systems are going to be implemented are as close to how the game use to play;therefore, a direct implamentation will not cause as much of an issue as you bring up in this video discussion.
Y’all’s act like being able to run and dive in any direction is this huge step up but it’s no different then the crazy slides and slide canceling that happens now. Once you start a dive you’re stuck in that animation. I think it’s gonna be easier to read then what we have now
I genuinely think Verdansk 84 was a better map. Especially when they added Nakatomi plaza, that was so cool. General map design was a bit better I think. I look more fondly on 84 than the original especially pre Stadium explosion
You say Verdansk had block buildings with just one way in and out with stairs. Well that is a good thing for players like me that are not high skill players. This is why Verdansk was very balanced map. You can be a low skilled player and still have fun and have good chance to win. If you make warzone basically high skill game it won’t be fun for most players. There has to be a balance. Verdansk had it and so did Caldera. This new warzone just feels like you sweating all the time.
A lot of these things you point out were changed with verdansk 84 and seeing as how that was treyarch and raven did wouldn’t that be more likely to be the design direction they go with instead of a map designed ported by a team that’s not involved in non mobile games?
Great vid. You explained EXACTLY what I have been feeling about Verdansk. If it comes back 1:1 as we remember it, it will be really problematic. It requires some rework in some very open areas. The player base has become better. More players are able to shoot straighter and further. Without interesting POI additions/changes, the classic Verdansk we remember will not be kind to the players and will become bland very quick.
I think that a lot of people conflate Verdansk as a play space with Warzone 1 as a game experience, especially before Cold War integration, not to mention the Vanguard integration. In the MW19 seasons, I feel like weapons had more complex stats to them, especially recoil, even though you genuinely had a meta option. Even with the meta, it was borderline impossible to get insta-downed by anything except a sniper/marksman rifle because few weapons that you could control at a distance also had enough stopping power to down someone in half a mag. Most weapons had effective ranges for shootouts, but it was very hard to wipe an entire team with an SMG (like you could with the Cooper SMG during Caldera, for example). That's what I miss most about Warzone One, that you had to pick the right weapon/weapon build for the right engagement. There's no point in bringing Verdansk back if I'll be instantly reminded that I'm playing MWII multiplayer (with plates) when I'll get beamed from half a kilometer by a kid firing the meta SMG/AR build of the season with no recoil or damage drop-off.
Never got to play this map. So I am looking forward to trying it. Hopefully it's not just nostalgia hyping it up and I enjoy it. But it can't be as bad as some of the maps we've had.
I really hope Verdansk 25 gets the attention it deserves before it releases. If not, It's pretty much destined to end up with the same Rooftop and Stairway meta it had before. Needs more ladders multiple stairs, and some ziplines going between buildings. And of course, as you mentioned, some micro cover in certain areas (whether natural or artificial). I do have high hopes. Also. I do hope that we can get more than just 1 playable map at the time. It would be the smart thing for COD to do. There will always be people who do not enjoy a certain map. So let those people have another MAIN map option to play. It's better to have multiple options than for players to leave and move on to another game.
I don't think it needs many changes. But more high ground access in zips and ladders is probably necessary. A sewer system branching out from the aquaduct under farm/lumber/maybe stadium would add a cool dynamic to late game pushes to those areas. I think they could choose to do a lot to it and do it well. Given the elements they developed in later maps I think they could implement some cool features to increase new experiences on the map. But I expect them to do nothing but a new coat of paint and maybe a token poi.
I actually agree with 95% of what you're saying. I think less is more! Don't visually necessarily change it bar from maybe the west and east outskirts. But your last point regards to cover, I think that's part of the charm of it, it forces risk and made the game play way more fun for me. Unlike Caldera which I'd actually say was far worse for cover when you add the OP guns, hackers, visuals and the rest of that mess.
Getting a helicopter and sniping with the HDR/mp5 load out on skyscrapers was the greatest gaming times of me and my buddies lives..it was amazing on Friday and Saturday nights when the family went to bed. So much dam fun
The west side of the map. Is how I’d play the game, HDR, ram7 all the way until the game ended in 2022 … I’m so ready to creep past big blue and snipe into boneyard
I’d love it to return as it was. As someone who’s fallen away from the game due to MW2/3 I really hope they take the game in a more simplified route. I was really pleased to hear they’re getting rid of backpacks which was a ridiculous change made I can only assume for DMZ which they abandoned after a year. I personally would even love the water combat to be removed but I don’t think that’ll happen any time soon. Although verdansk in its current state would have very little to no water anyway. I just think they need to simplify a lot of what has gone wrong the past few years and as such should go with verdansk as was or even verdansk 84.
I’ve been watching some of your old Verdansk videos with Stod and Westie and I think I would have loved the sniping and being able to one-shot people, I hope that comes back. I think it’ll be a mix of nostalgia and updated POIs, stuff that has the essence of what Verdansk was but made playable for where WZ is now.
You've got some good ideas. I'm sure that the devs and designers have learned from building maps for BR over the years and will apply that to verdansk.
I hope they bring back the open stadium from before Verdansk 84. Hated what they did with it for the cold War integration but before that with the enclosed field, it was awesome
I will be crushed if they rework the circles. In Verdansk the final circle could end up pretty much anywhere. Since then, circles are almost always ending in a more central part of the map. I want last circles over Prison, like the old days.
Bring back the javelin. A reason why it was there. To keep people from camping rooftops. They nerfed javelin into the ground. We need the javelin to be viable again!
I could honestly hand on my heart and be happy just to play Verdansk forever, trust me know one in PUBG complains about playing Erangel these are classic maps that do not need to be taken out the game EVER!!
I honestly hope they dont change it much, I'm looking forward to buildings and areas that break people's ability to abuse movement and lend an advantage to someone who plays the position more tactically. The more open areas will allow for movement demons to go ham with it there.
This is a amazing map requires proper rotations, planning and overall strategy not pure movement and multiplayer style gun fighting. Plus the eery running between buildings wating to get cracked by a sniper was awesome. The pacing of the map is nice for people who dont want to be hyper agressive.
I know a lot of people probably don't remember this, but I really hope they bring back Warzone Rumble. Had a lot of fond memories learning how to snipe and interacting with the other 25 people
The open spaces in Verdansk made it so that you could get caught out in the open and you could use these spaces to your advantage. It created much more strategy around positioning. I personally don't like the redeploy balloons. I hate the 'everyone can come from everywhere at any time' mentality the game has now.
Nothing will ever top Verdansk, just remember bunkers and when they were opened damn, then remember implementation of underground stations. Amazing map.
slide cancel felt like you really were flying around the map, but it wasnt a bug it wasnt a glitch it was something they sneaked in for all player to discover and test and gave good results, no matter what they claim about it just being kinda of a bug,
More micro cover in some areas along with added zips / redeploys would go a long way. I really don't think we need nearly the amount of redeploys we currently have though.
Today’s warzone is just a clutter. Verdansk as you said was “SIMPLE”. Open and going through Buy Station was simple. Today’s warzone when you open up the buy station is a huge clutter fest. Verdansk is by far the best balanced map ever. One game could end up in open spaces while another in a close combat mash pit. The game also felt smooth and fluid. What we have now just feels draggy
I dont think there was any deadspace on Verdansk. Each area still had enough cover to work some cover or flanks. Even that area at the far left corner of the map. There was always some way to make it work, but you were forced to think how you would achieve that. Verdansk was perfect in my opinion.
Everyone would love to go back to the original way it was. It was so much fun. The game has just catered for sweats and streamers for many years now. And frankly it’s become ridiculous.
They do not need to add anything to verdansk. The dense open spaces are why made it great. If we get towns and building everywhere it’s going to ruin it just like urzikstan
I believe your player model compared to surroundings was alot smaller giving the feeling of enormity it's much bigger in current warzone now movement seems insane and will be the biggest thing the fans will notice besides the need to be more accurate with your shots
I'm excited to hear that you're working on updating the Verdansk Warzone map from 2019. However, I have a strong request: please don't make it look and feel like MW2 and MW3. Those games have their own unique identity, and I believe Verdansk should maintain its original character. Instead, I urge you to aim for the same graphics fidelity, audio quality, and overall polish as the original Verdansk. Keep it true to its roots and don't try to mold it into something it's not. The community fell in love with Verdansk's unique atmosphere and gameplay, and I fear that changing its essence could alienate loyal fans. Please, Raven Studio, preserve the original spirit of Verdansk and don't try to make it a carbon copy of other games in the series. Give it the same love and care that you would give to a new game, and I'm confident that the community will appreciate it.
As a less skilled player, I hope they don’t adopt the feedback that comes from higher skilled players like streamers. I’m a camper because it’s the way I can play and still be relevant. I’d still lose a lot of fights to higher skilled players but at least I had some semblance of an advantage.
If Verdansk doesn't launch with 150/152 player lobby i'd be disappointed. Remove gulag entry loot and flares or at least make them extremely rare. I don't like playing big map but feels like I'm playing resurgence. Reckless teams getting full reset in just under a minute after you nearly wiped them is not satisfying and it's just too far from the authentic BR experience..
It being simple was why it’s great. New warzone is for gamers. Camera breaking cuz of the cocaine movement. Literally no one is having fun. If they are. They are lying. Bring back simple
I disagree with some of your points. I find some of the new maps too cluttered these days and too chaotic. It leads to ‘sweaty’ interactions 24/7 and less of a casual, slower pace game. Just remember, most of us aren’t streamers or paid competitors. We work all week and just want to play with our mates without getting shafted all the time. We want to play a bit slower, and parts of the map that don’t have a lot in it, is fine with us lot. I think most streamers and devs are far removed from 90% of the people that play the game.
OG Verdansk > V84 > blackout > garbage > mazrah > urzikstan > caldera. Tho, rn I'd take caldera over ANY generic sand map. And urzikstan is also lots sandy. From this video, the nice European trees, nice grass and hills and perfect lightning/shadows.... It's just a beauty. Enough wit the middle eastern shit maps.
Urzikstan is absolutely garbage and the graphics quality of the current warzone is dreadful, even when you max everything out. The textures and poor and shadows are terrible. MW2019 somehow had higher graphic fidelity than the new engine.
We dont need any topology chance, just more trees, ziplines, some redeploy drones, more ladders, rocks and some more houses/building there and there... leave the rest as it was in the original
they dont have to keep trying to make new movements and weapons and skins, JUST MAKE GOOD MAPS! leave everything else alone! fuck. theres nothing mechanical you need to do ! just like hollywood movies, once sales go down and people run out of ideas they automatically regurgitate old shit. Like verdanks, beetlejuice, starwars, etc.,
For your west border of Verdansk idea: Create something similar to Derelict map from BO6 beta (but a bit bigger), with a small train depot and control towers, train cars on tracks (some open, some not and some overtunerd and rusting) and maybe an offloading/storage area. Lore idea being it's an "entrance area" of Verdansk train system from the outside world, maybe even extend some tracks into a huge tunnel on the border of the map that is inaccessible but visible.
Imagine if instead of a train station at the bottom left, it instead is a fairly deep valley similar to dam, where the train goes onto a very high bridge, with stuff in the valley and such. Perhaps even a Y-split right after the bridge players can tell the train which way to go to make it a hot contention as the train direction can be game changing
Please no, they already fumbled their chances with DMZ and Verdansk isn't gonna be like how it originally was so what would make putting it in DMZ with this complicated Gunsmith would do?
