@@iamaloafofbread8926A cat’s meow most likely evolved to mimic the cries of a human infant and to be pleasant to the human ear in order to grab our attention. Overtime, the meow has became a way for cats to interact and “communicate” with humans to get what they want. They can alter and change the tones and frequencies of their vocalizations to produce a sound which basically manipulates people. It’s actually quite interesting.
@@iamaloafofbread8926 Unless you ignore it in the beginning Its not easy, but if it doesnt work they dont keep trying (and find other ways to get what they want anyway lol)
I think that cats are smart enough to know humans communicate with each other (and everything else) verbally, and so they’re trying to communicate with us in the same way to make us not feel left out.
@@bethanyfolsomthewolf2737 the three ladies all curled up together. They are so entwined it's hard to find where one begins and another stops. They snuggle up in front of the fireplace and chirp at each other like a bunch of gossipy old aunties.
I've lived in a small housing complex with a community of about a dozen half-socialized cats. (We got them spayed/neutered) I don't remember them meow at each other at all, they definitely communicated, mostly growls and hisses to let each other know their boundaries, but i didn't notice much beyond that. The neighbors and I feed them, they definitely meowed at us.
@@mofire5674 ik lol. There's plenty of videos on this website of adult cats meowing at each other. I love how confident and how wrong she is. People love spreading this false fact.
They make some noises at night that are so terrifying LOL especially when you are a kid and have no idea what's going on and you are thinking is my cat broken? Especially when they are in heat I cant type out the way they mate but that may explain the anguished noises! Let's just say "barbs"
I disagree, I've lived in rural areas, and from my experience if a cat doesn't know you're there, they won't moew, even when fighting and mating the sounds they make can hardly be described as moewing, rather it is an ungodly screechy, growling sound, and if you think that sound is a moew, well I would advise it is time to go see your GP.
I think that some also think they are forever baby, and exist to be pet. I know my cat absolutely adores attention, and is nothing but purrs when I hug him.
@@tmdz9643even when you do try to help it's still very disheartening. I've fed outdoor cats and even try to tame a feral cat into becoming a house cat which was unsuccessful. I recently adopted a kitty that came from a rescue that has over 300 cats but yet they are still everywhere. It feels like trying to empty the ocean with a teaspoon
My male cat is the most vocal cat I’ve ever seen! Always ordering me around and always responds when I talk to him. He also meows at my female cat and vice versa. Whenever she meows, he always runs towards her and checks on her to make sure she’s okay and licks her 🥺
Funny enough I had the opposite… my old cat wasn’t the most talkative, like he would just order you around like “open the window” or “let me in this room” or “pet me now” or “ My food is a bit soggy now give me new one” things like that… meanwhile my ex girlfriends female cat would just argue with you… I don’t remember my make cat being like that even when he was young… He was named Shiva so he had a god complex while the other one would just have conversations with my gf while I’d lye their like “women ☕️”
Felines do this to mimic their prey. Trying to make their prey think they are just another bird, mouse, whatever they have in their sights. I’ve seen cats bark and tigers try to moo at cattle.
@@AmandaHugandKiss411 my dude, he said "like when they see a bird through the window" meaning that he knows they do it when they see birds, but they also do it to each other
@@dewilew2137 go away with your interpretations of a meow. Catlovers really think they totally understand what their cat is saying is just plain stupid. And yes, cats meow at each other this is made only for clicks.
So will some black cats, which totally made sense when I learned that Siamese mix cats will often have black kittens. I have one black cat that has a very Siamese sounding voice and will not be ignored, if she is wanting attention!!! Meowmeowmeowmeow... I am training her to say "ma ma", by praising her whenever she does her really unique double meow. 😻
Just got a cat, never had one before and its only been 3 days but I found that terrifying at first. Went to bed and it jumped on my chest making that weird noise with its claws retracted it just wanted petting
@@laurarules3642 My tuxedo cat tended to go "bbrrrbbbbppp" whenever he either jumped up or down from something, whenever I touched him. My Tortoiseshell also squeaked and chirped. If your cat's already comfortable being on you like that, that's a great sign. I miss falling asleep with Squeaku on my chest purring, or right next to my head on my pillow. You're gonna fall in love.
Ah yes the heart melting 'Trill'. Mine sounds like a pigeon at times while behaving like a dog the other half. Young cats, or cats that lost their mamma early with really only human bonding (as their parent) are bigger 'brrrrrrpers' and chatterboxes
Oh.. Fun fact the 'brrrrrrp' trill sound means hello. When they gently nod that's a cats hello/hey there. Slowly blinking at you means they feel safe with you + I love you. That's 18 yrs of cat parenting & rescue 😻🐈
Cats figure out from a young age that their meows are very useful for getting out attention just like they get their mom's attention. Although, that only happens if they grow up with humans. I have an older cat that lived as a barn cat in her younger years mostly away from humans and she doesn't meow unless she's very scared of something. She instead makes little chirping noises and purrs to get my attention the same way wild cats do to communicate with each other.
Misconceptions spread when agreed by majority just like a lie spreads Cats do meow at each other and dogs bark at each other, it is just that most cats like to live a solitary and lone life and hence often do not roam in pairs or groups unless they are in heat Hence, 'The frequency of events where they meowing ateach other is less' cos of less interactions, but when they are around for symbiosis purposes they do mewo too
To be fair if you watch outdoor cat gopro vids showing their day of wandering, I’ve noticed that it’s pretty rare to hear an explicit “meow” from one cat to another when no humans are in the area. In fact much of the time they’re communicating fully nonverbally. They’ll make other sounds though, growling chirping etc but not really meowing much if at all. It’s not an absolute truth but it’s not an outright myth or lie either, more like pretty accurate without human presence but of course with exceptions 🤷🏻
The way I see it is that they communicate with each other in a number of different ways and don't vocalize so much among themselves. But they have figured out that humans don't pick up on a lot of there non verbal ways of communicating so That is why they are more vocal around humans.
@@emojigran ???? Ypur 100% proven wrong by the exact souce you mention. There are dozens of videos like this showing them meowing at each other. I have also worked in cat rescue for years with multiple feral cat colonies and they constantly talk to each other. 100% myth
Mine too. Heck, the cats allogroom each other and the dog. Moonshine (beagle/jack Russell mix isn't opposes to pinning them to the ground and fleaing them either. Weirdos.
Everyone knows cats share braincells because there aren't enough for every cats so it would make sense they send some post it notes along with their braincells
@@illuminerd3757 im not saying that they sound annoying, but when you hear a cat meow, you probable go like awhhhh thats so cute, the same way when a baby says something you go like awhhhh, they set of the same emotions and they know it
She didn't say "talk," she said "meow." They may be able to do "cat-speak" with each other without including meowing (by chattering, etcetera). But I believe adult cats actually do meow at each other too. I've heard it.
I keep reading and hearing this stupid thing that cats don't meow at each other. It's blatant false to me. Cats do meow to each other in a rather vast vocal array and range depending on context and relationship.
If you FREE FEED your cats from kittenhood, they never beg for food... they only beg for TREATS (or people food). BOTH of my cats are FREE fed, Neither are overweight, nor will they EVER be in their lives. Abundance creates indifference in animals. They are NOT the same as humans in that regard. Side note, they still need playtime..
I'd agree i have 4 cats the bowl is always full and they come take a couple bites and walk off through out the day. Revision whoops we have four cats.@@drunkenskeptic6633
before i got my kitten, i had a dream like a month before , i think i was sad or crying or drowing not too sure i don't remember but it was a bad dream and a cat that did not look like my kitten, it actually looks like the cat that meows every night , pretty sure the head of them all theres like 10cats that my neighbor has, but anything that cat looked at me and i stop suffering in my dream it was odd after when i thought about it and remembered ..
I tried to explain the same concept to my youngest daughter. She's still mad at me for calling her "a baby". But she's five so maybe we'll move on someday. 🤷
My Siamese cats meowed to each other when they had no idea I was home. They would scream & tell each other off. Throughout the day while I should have been at work. They never had much to say to me, but they screamed at each other.

My cats always meow at me as soon as I get home from work. Then my male cat Sully will get on the bed and stretch his body up to my chest and I’ll pick him up and he’ll give me hug. Lol every time. It never fails.

My two adult boys meow for each other, but they're also a bonded pair and are inseparable. They will literally enter a room and make little chirpy meows until the other one shows up. It's so cute.
I swear my cat says "mum" when he wants my attention the first time he done it I nearly fainted jst happy my man was there n heard it aswell so I knew i wasn't going off my head 😹😹😹 xxx

Oh that cute face when lady says "I'm baby" looks almost exactly like my 14 yr old Tyger who just loves it when you make a fuss over her such as covering her with a blanket, picking her up, carrying her around, heating up her dish & food
The only time my family’s two housecats meow at each other is when they’re trying to find each other to hang out. Basically just a very loud meow cry of “where is everyone?!?”
My 2 cats (now RIP) used to have long conversations with each other, not related to each other, but definitely in love. Another pair earlier in my life did the same, a mother/daughter pair. I now have 2 cats that don't cuddle together, but they do talk to each other.
Cats don’t really feel love, they feel connection with something in a way where they want to protect that other being, but they can’t comprehend love, so therefore they can’t experience it. So basically, they’re just besties.
Unless you are a cat yourself, you cannot say that cats do not know love. Yes they have friends and besties, but they do show love. They feel loved. I see it every day in mine.@@Strawberrykoal
Cats are pretty intelligent species and can learn. When they live with people they learn that making sounds is a way to communicate and it brings food sometimes.
