Crab: Yeah Shedding is fun but it all changed when the stingray nation attacked. Only the sharks the Master of hunting can stop them. But when we need them the most They vanished..
I think the crab pile is a survival mechanism, where the crab has some awareness that if enough crabs are on top of you, you are less likely to be eaten. So the crab gets on the pile, and hopes that other crabs can be convinced to get on the pile on top of them before they're eaten. It's like a literal pyramid scheme but made of crabs instead of poor financial decisions.
is gonna be funny because in a matter of 10 years the crabs may evolve to reproduce more in order to have a big population to survive all the attacs. From what i know that's why many insects exist in large quantities, like flies, bees or ants. They pretty much die in the thousands everyday
I remember the local aquarium when I lived in Myrtle Beach had a stingray petting tank that was usually crowded, but after Steve Irwin died, there was NOBODY there who wanted to pet them except me. The rays came flocking to me for pets like slimy little puppies. Lovely animals.
I live not far from a shark and ray centre where u put on a wetsuit and sit in the pool and pat and feed the rays. I love them so much. And your right like slimy puppies. And the fiddler rays are like sandpaper they like scritches.
@@gasser5001 I mean I can't stab a person with stingray and say "oh they died because they removed it improperly". For all legal matters, it was the stingray barb and piercing of the thoracic wall, causing massive trauma that killed him. Don't get me wrong though I love stingrays and Steve Irwin always said not to hate whatever animal finally got him because he was in there environment. Of course we know he might have lived had he not pulled the one barb out but the camera man said he was stabbed a few times by the stingray and was already bleeding out. If we take accounts from other eye witnesses there was likely little hope even before rushing him to medical.
That was VERY VERY misleading about the crab cemetery. The bodies on the seafloor are molted empty shells, not a "crab cemetery" like was mentioned. If they were attacked by stingrays, then there would not be mounds of "bodies" left behind.
I thought it was very misleading. If the devouring of crabs was truly going on then why so many full body wise carapace and legs left? Either Marilyn Chamber's was reborn as a Ray or this was nothing but a molting used as cheap way to sell a story. Kinda shameful.
Bruh in literally watching aot right now, reading this while the ads passed on crunchy role" i had to double take and check that i was seeing this on here xD what a legend
From what I heard part of the reason Steve Erwin Died was because they removed the spine from the wound. Like removing a knife from a stab victim the weapon is sometimes the only thing keeping the blood in. With it being as close to his heart as it was by removing it he would have bled out. In addition Rays are actually very friendly creatures. If you have ever been to an aquarium with an open air tank where they have de-barbed them for people to pet I would recommend trying it. I was at an open air tank for petting sharks and rays and they just loved coming to me and my brother because we were gentle with them.
So the reason Steve Irwin died is the same reason that Martin Luther King lived? Maybe it was Junior. He was attacked with a letter opener but everyone knew enough to leave the letter opener in until he got to the hospital and it turned out it was actually pressed into his aorta, I'm really upset with the people who are with Steve Irwin did not know that but they can figure out all this stuff about crocodiles and other animals! That was a fact I did not want to know!
@@Rosemarie-RU-vid- It's important information to know as the aftermath was quite terrible for ray populations in general and people are sometimes idiots. At the same time I am not sure if the ray was still connected or if the stinger broke off before they pulled it. Also when in a panic it seems counter intuitive to leave a knife in a person. Steve knew the risks but had a habit of picking up and touching things he shouldn't have from what I heard so one of the worst things is the situation also triggered people to hunt the poor creatures like people did with the nursharks after "JAWS" was released. Nursharks being EXTREMELY docile and were known for playing with children and it was a common sight to see them giving kids a ride when swimming around without hurting them.
It was Steve Irwin himself who pulled out the barb, not those around him. Steve was stung and almost immediately after he pulled the barb from his chest, while underwater. It was probably a knee-jerk reaction.
Legend says the humans responsible for this are known for being "pathogen spreaders", they hunt sharks by the millions for their fins. They also have the west side of the world grab by the balls,, you cant even name them without some communist algorithm taking your unfavorable opinion out..
Truly enjoyed this video, especially with added cut-ins of the various comedic lines, added in to the video presentation. Thanks for info, and the occasional humor.🤣
I love that crabs often have the survival strategy of "fuck it, some of us will make it." They've got no problem walking into the meat grinder. Nature's cheeseburgers indeed lol
@@blogshagify The crab sheds it’s old shell as it grows and before his new shell has had a chance to harden they get eaten whole. Basically soft shell crab
There's an entire documentary called "Our Planet" with this exact footage and the narrator explicitly says that those aren't dead crabs just their molts and that the vast majority make it out alive, this guy is pure BS
@@blogshagify There are people who eat softshell crab whole, guts and all. I remember visiting my Aunt in Maryland and she ate one at a seafood place. I love eating crab, but I thought it was gross as hell
Why is any of that called a graveyard/cemetary? We literally watch the stingray eat the molted crab whole, not leaving anything behind. That was a picture of tens of thousands of empty molts, most of those crabs likely survived since not that many Rays came to eat them.
Yeah, I've seen the documentary he is pulling this footage from. They explicitly say in that documentary (that I am assuming he watched) that the bodies are the molted exoskeletons. Seems very hard to misinterpret that, so I can only guess the narrator here is just trying to make a clickbait title/video.
Yep, I live and dive there every year, they're just the empty molted shells. There's a big movement to protect them from people netting duing the crab march as well to reduce lose even further.
How many crabs ? 50000 ? The sting rays are gonna have to be MANY to put any visible dent into the number of crabs after molt. Though a human with a sucking type of trawler could fetch 15000, while a sting ray eats say 10 each day, so 100 rays could eat 1000 crabs a day - but i would be surprised if the rays is that many.
I’ve read the novel (it’s on webnovel) and it’s where someone wakes up as a stingray and it has to feed the “system” points to learn more survival and hunting techniques ( highly recommended)
Hey I appreciate all your research and the information you provide! I love your content. But are you sure about the spider crabs being inedible? I got curious and wondered why humans can eat them and the articles I read said they are in fact edible and them being toxic is just an old wives tale
Well there's no better way to visually show dead crabs than their shells. Since their eaten whole is impossible to show eaten crabs visually. So he shows their shells because those look like dead crabs.
"The crabs are actually inedible for humans" Where the hell you got such false information? Spider crabs are one of the most delicious crabs a person can eat as it is a bit more sweet than regular crabs. They are also expensive so they generate a lot of $$$. Thats why so many people want to catch them.
Manta rays aren’t stingrays. They’re members of the closely related family mobulidae, sharing a similar body plan but with filter feeding structures and no stinger.
@@RichHomieGon That’s a good thing. It either indicates that you don’t have a juvenile sense of humor, or, you’ve never caught crabs. You’re good either way 😃
Once a year, these crabs gather together and take their shells off for predators. This makes them tired so they just sort of take a nap and wait to be eaten. This survival strategy has no flaws.
4:42 Even ants can recognize their own reflection. Might be that we just have a way to go in researching it. Most animals seem to be a lot smarter than we think
I LUV Stingrays. This event occurs at Safety Beach Vic via the Martha Cove development. I know coz I was building Martha Cove and got to swim in the area and see everything as it occured. As for the stingrays you will usually find thrm at Mornington Pier and I was belessed to hand feed 6 Southern Smooth Stingrays for over a year. They are very friendly intelligent and grntle creatures. I was truly blessed 🙏
I have lived in Melbourne my entire life and this is the first time of heard of this annual crab migration, thank for making a video on this and I'm a big fan of your channel.
I grew up in Rye & can tell you they used to pile up out of the water at the end of Rye pier 7 metres deep... now they don't pile up nearly as high but you can still see them in summer
One of the biggest stingrays ive seen was in Port Phillip Bay, right under my kayak in a few meters of water depth. My friend i was with said "look under your yak" and i saw the biggest damn shadow gliding along it actually scared me. With all that crab around it doesn't suprise me it was that massive.
It was probably Big Ben He's a bit of a legend down here much bigger now then when i was younger... There's also Stumpy (Greek fisher cut off his tail) He's also quite large. I remember diving off rye pier and swimming along the bottom and noticing a shadow pass over me turned over and there was Big ben swimming right over me near the surface! Quite scary at the time I must say.
@@DmccullochD the ones found in Melbourne have a slightly higher amount of some chemicals that are anti-viagra basically. the effects wear off in a week or two. they are also reported to taste worse, but they are only slightly less edible than other spider crabs.
@@DmccullochD Don't know about that erectile dysfunction, but crabs do cause an appetite dysfunction on me, or lack of appetite at all... and you can all have my share of them, in fact, you can have them all!! :P
Well perfect food for november. But why are people catching them then, jokes aside? Are they fed to some domestic animal? Do they make stellar pig slop?
removing even one animal from its ecosystem, whether it be the largest predator or the smallest organism, can easily destroy it. nobody seems to really acknowledge this, however. it's like it'll take a massive tragedy or worldwide famine for humans to finally do something to help our earth
HUH? @John Paul No, because they're dangerous killers & scary mo'f'ers who need to be eradicated, expelled & expunged from our planet's oceans unless you want surfers or swimmers to live the rest of their lives w/o a limb
@Ranger SHIBAcoin Shib ELITE the only thing you probably own is your bedroom & all the garbage you failed to clean up. Might want to get to it you'll get pet roaches💗
DON'T SWIM?@@AtlanteanVrilChad How about don't interfere when we're tube riding or carvin' 360s - don't start no sh*t, won't be no sh*t - there's no one to blame except for the dumb sharks themselves (don't want to be shark meat, swim the other way)
