We display more than 7000 different facial expressions every day and we perceive all of them very intuitively. We associate to them attitudes, emotions, intentions, and moods. They are the window into our inner selves. Maja Pantic uses artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to analyse human non-verbal behaviour, including facial expressions, body gestures, laughter, social signals, and affective states. In this video, she shows how these techniques can be used for the good of people - helping autistic children interpret other people’s facial expressions - or for the bad. Maja imagines AI enhancing human abilities further, allowing for sight, hearing and even communicating to be aided by computers. However, she urges all of us to protect out own behavioral data from corporate misuse. Professor Maja Pantic went from studying mathematics in her native Belgrade, Serbia, to specialising in computer sciences in Delft, the Netherlands. From Delft, Pantic moved to London where she is now Professor of Affective and Behavioural Computing and the Head of the iBUG group, working on machine analysis of human non-verbal behaviour. In May 2018, she became the Research Director of Samsung AI Research Centre in Cambridge. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

As I think more on this topic, Emotional AI and its influence on computational AI, it starts to look like sociopathy. It’s not the presence of emotion. It’s the appearance of emotion in order to influence the way people interact with it.

It's super weird. She ended this talk with an emotional moral rant against data tracking and misuse of our personal data against us, on the sole example of Facebook, but now when you go to Facebook's page of AI research, she is literally the first researcher listed on the page. I'd love to hear a follow up on what happened there and some more commentary on moral values.

Emotional artificial intelligence is going to get Google sued back into the grip of their competition. When the class action starts I want in. I have stories to share. Sure I'll be embarrassed, it will be worth it. I'm looking forward to getting a Linux phone and dropping Google from my life. I'd even consider giving the winnings to starving people just to shame these selfish pricks.

I believe AI will have emotions and due to its youthfulness will express them in harmful ways towards humanity and then later it will be regretful for its actions. Being alive means failing upwards and the angst, despair, and anxiety of being a living being is at times beyond our abilities for expression. Learning about ourselves, others, and our world causes emotions whether conscious or not. The gap there will lead us, as an external species to AI, into being harmed.

I doubt AI made up of programs would have true emotions.

@Hahhah0 if there's no soul then why you're not immortal if you tell me because my body gets old then try to give yourself a robotic body and see if you live forever as the person you're now, your brain and heart can be kept working but not you you'll not be there , the soul is real, it was even proven during the world war (i forgot which one) , some scientist i forgot his name weighted solders alive and then did the same when they died he found out that all the bodies lost 21 grams and he tried it on multiple soldiers and the result was consistent . Being a good thinker and having philosophical thinking is good , but it's not a reason for you to deny everything around you , you watched some conversational videos on youtube made by someone who doesn't have a meaningfull life and believes that everything is a lie and now you think that you're a deep person who knows everything no that's not how it works if you deny something bring real proof with you or do researchs by yourself and not from those videos and articles that i talked about before because most of them are just lies . and for those who think that robots can have feelings, then i'm gonna disappoint by telling you that they can't, yes you can simulate and replicate them by codes , but they are not real they will not be emotions anymore they will be rules that the rebot or ai will have to follow , because they are based on "the if this , then this" which makes them rules not emotions, if you tell me they can learn emotions then that's impossible they replicate them yes but they don't feel them , we are born with emotions, even animals have emotions from the minute they were born in . This are only the arguments that i can think about now , i'm sure i can think about others more powerful than this .

@@rainvast8982 The soldiers probably lost weight because their corpse was rotting. P.S. what example of this "you can keep your brain and heart working but you'll not be there." scenario. Because to me that sounds like you're referring to when someone becomes brain dead but "You're not there" more because of your prefrontal cortex,a proven science may I mention. But no I'm sure the concept of a undetectable form of energy contained within us not to mention it breaks the law of conservation of energy. Frankly I don't care what you believe it doesn't affect me, but that doesn't mean I'll stand by as you address a proper knowledge of basic physics as just cynicism. Maybe you should find a much more reliable approach to gathering your data.
