Gerard was the best midfielder I had ever seen. He should have won the Ballon d Or. He carried Liverpool on his legs, in his heart and a great strategist.
Zidane, the joint-best midfielder in history (joint with Maradona), once said, "Is he the best in the world? He might not get the attention of Messi and Ronaldo but yes, I think he just might be. He has great passing ability, can tackle and scores goals, but most importantly he gives the players around him confidence and belief. You can't learn that - players like him are just born with that presence."
The simple truth is that Gerrard was the best midfielder of his generation in terms of overall ability and versatility. Players like Lampard, Scholes, Xavi, Pirlo and Alonso could do some of the things Gerrard did, but not all of them. None of them were much good defensively or could play different positions well. Gerrard was a master of almost all trades. He played as a attacking midfielder, defensive midfielder, striker, second striker, winger and even fullback. The best there ever was.
Ruud gullit of his generation.. Similar as gullit, gullit was world class player ever that ever grace the football scene..second one i can say lotthar matthaus.. If u put him as striker he will be the best striker ever.. If u put him at the middle of the park u got the best midfielder ever and if u put him on defense.. He was absolutely among the best.. Stevie was in the same mould as him.. At his peak, no one was on the same level as him.. Stevie got everything u can ask from a complete footballer.. The perfect midfielder ever.. Some midfielder from his era maybe got excellence technique but lacked on other traits.. For example kaka has the best pace for midfielder ever and the most perfect cam or number 10..dude got perfect technique, scoring wise and pace to burn.. But lacking on other department for example leadership, defensive traits, can't play multiple position.. Xavi got everything u can asked for midfielder that suits tiki taka system.. Technical ability, close control, reading the game and pass master for short passing system.. But lacking on stamina, defensive skill, pace, his long ball not that great but his through ball or lob ball was excellent.. Furthermore shit shooting ability and bad freekick takers ever among from that generation..on top of that lacking in leadership department. He's quite ok compared to other that wear those jersey in 2000s. Pirlo. Oh boy what he can do with ball is unrivaled.. The only guy who was on similar level with him as pass master either short and long ball was xabi alonso.. Maybe the greatest trequartista ever that ever grace italian national teams and one the best world ever saw.. Man was absolutely prowess with passing, technical abilites, amazing freekick takers also penalty takers. And in his prime he was, maybe the amazing piece of legendary milan. Squad of 2000s. But still lacking on stamina, fitness, cannot play multiple position, lacking instamina and physical against physical battles.. Iniesta.. Dude maybe the classiest spanish stalwart ever. That wear la roja jersey.. For guy his size. He was absolutely brilliant to see.. Got the best technique ever to play as advanced role for tiki taka. What zidane for france that same thing can said about him. Dude was classy and magical player to watch.. Amazing insight as advanced playmaker, great with and off the ball, a pass master, amazing to see how he open and created a space with his pass or running without ball. Absolutely beautiful..as good as iniesta was, with his small frame we know how limited and bad he was if got engaged with opponent that prefer physical battle, lacking stamina, pace and lack goalscoring records as advanced midfielder for barca compared to his compatriot david silva, kaka, stevie g and lampard from his generation..we know his playstyle also limited to one system that make use of his ability to maximal. Also dude can't play more than 2 roles because of his small frame. Here ma boy stevie g, most perfect and completed midfielder of 21st century.. Pros he have the body stature to engaged on long physical battle, pace to beat his marker maybe not as fast as kaka. But we know he can burn any player too, a pass master maybe not as beautiful as pirlo and xabi but he got the ability to ping 40s yard. Famous with his hollywood pass. Maybe not as elegance as barca pairs interm of control and dribbling. But dude got his swagger too and the most combative midfielder world ever saw. From final thirds to defense he won tackle and scoring bangers only. Great leadership to inspired magical moments. Knack to scoring long shot banger. His records said that. Prowess penalty taker and freekick takers ever.. His ability to play multiple diffrent position, dude was genius with understanding and ability to read and perfect his roles.. Not many players got brains to play diffent position, its quite hard.. The most was 2 or 3 position.
He had everything and could do everything. And people don't even talk about his pace. He was electric when he ran. What a superhero of a player. Simply the best!
@@thierryhenry674 lmao not good at everything. Its like saying he was bad goalscorer. Or bad leader.. Maybe some edges him different traits but stevie definitely got something that make him stand out and make people remember fondly of him. For example leadeship to inspire. Tell me which midfielder from his generation that great leader. No one mate.. Last times i can remember a great midfielder with armband were ballack and zidane before him.. Effenberg and sammer too.. His goalscoring ability too only edges by lampard.. Some player built and play suitable for one system. For example pirlo with his trequartista role.. Or xavi and iniesta bcos the lacked of physical stature in term of stamina, pace for example.. They will failed if moving and playing different league and teams
The Most Complete Midfielder of my Generation definitely. He was definitely something special. He played the game with the heart on his sleeves. The only thing missing from his CV was the Premier League title which he would have won with Mourinho at Chelsea or going to Real Madrid and winning the league title that time. But he stuck to his roots and never forgot the values he was brought up with. Respect man.Respect. I probably think that he single-handedly with the fans kept Liverpool Club going when Liverpool was not winning anything after the year 2006. He kept them relevant in the Era when Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea were winning everything. Every year Liverpool was in a discussion somewhere even though they were not favorites. He and Suarez gave us hope with Brendan later, but to no luck that not the season. Then came Klopp came which made us what we are today. I really hope he comes one day to Liverpool and wins them a title. But if he does not, that won't take away anything from what a hell of a player he was.
He retired too soon imo because Rodgers forced him out of the team. He was one of the best players in 2014 and then suddenly he got dropped from the team. My idea is he was too big for Rodgers to handle. He should and could have gone to Barca or Real Madrid but he didn’t feel like playing for a club in europe other than Liverpool. Heart breaking tbh I think his legs gave way because he carried Liverpool so much. Anyone can go to Chelsea and Madrid and win easy trophies but Gerrard chose the hard challenge and stood up to it. There is only one goat in Midfield Zidane, Kaka, Pirlo, Henry etc all mention his name. Steven the goat Gerrard
Amazing pass Amazing long shot Amazing vision Amazing leadership Amazing attitude Amazing stamina Amazing crosses Strong fisically Good at defending Good skills Good FK All this in one player, Steven Gerrard, my favourite central midfield
It only takes the first 2 minutes to see things you pretty much never saw in the likes of Iniesta, Xavi, Pirlo, Lampard, Kross, Ballack, Deco, and many others. But then the rest of the video shows why Gerrard was better at the things those players were supposed to be great at... I mean, he could be as defensive as the best Kanté, Makelele, Keane, and Vieira or as offensive as the best Kaká, Zidane, Seedorf, Del Piero, and so on... All in one player! With another huge plus: he never hid waiting for others to save him, he took the responsibility to save his team over and over, unlike players such as Pogba or Ozil. Gerrard was definitely the best/most complete midfielder I've ever seen.
From the video can you say he isn't close or near there trademark iniesta has technically one the best drilling types but in passing he's not lacking. And in defense he's pretty good. Iniesta has busquets who if I have to chose a player in last 15 years from him and I Iniesta everybody else would come after them. Gerrard has no name power but ability on ball he the same I don't know how consistent though.
No matter what new generation trolls says, he was hell of a player. There were nothing he couldn't do, technique, set pieces, tackles, scoring crucial goals, he was complete midfielder with a heart of a lion. Thanks for the video!!
@@johnmitchell2269 He's won it north of the border. Hiw you can make a sweeeping stupid statement like "he will never do it as a manager either..." is quite simply embarrassing. Nobody knows whether he will or not ..least of all you.
Millwall fan here (for what it's worth) nothing but love for Gerrard as a footballer, Chelsea came sniffing with big dough and he made a decision that no working class man can deny, world class man and footballer, up there with gazza for me
Gerrard had De Bruyne like passing and dribbling, Kaka like pace, Vieira like tackling and...well Gerrard like shooting. The most complete midfielder ever for me.
one player who plays and has abilities that are close to gerrard or even many who think it's similar to his abilities like gerrard i think lampard, maybe everyone has different thoughts and judgments but I admit that lampard is almost like gerrard
Cant believe in how Stevie is underrated nowadays, and sometimes disrespected with the slip bullshit. He was a hero and a gifted player, one of the best ever. He deserved much more recognition. Pure pure class, passion and heart
@@Dz73zxxx that, and probably 'cuz they didn't see much of him. hands down the best player i have ever seen. yes, messi does things that should not be possible but messi is nowhere to be found when the team is suffering - can't blame the guy, he is no defender -, however stevie did it all...save goalkeeping, he did it all.
He's got heart like a Lion. Stevie G is my all time greatest. As far as I know not a single Liverpool fan at home or worldwide had the guts to Booo or blame Gerrard for the Chelsea game mistake in 2013/14 season which cost Liverpool the Premier League trophy. Everyone associated with the club was sad for him as if it was our mistake, wanna share the pain & it doesn't take away a bit of credit from his legacy. That's how much he's respected & loved.
No fans needed to have the guts because no true Liverpool fan would ever think of insulting a player of Gerrard's status. No player before or since (although Henderson makes us proud) has bled for Liverpool FC like Gerrard.
I'm a Man U fan. Can anyone name a midfielder from any generation whom can tackle, pass, dribble, score from nothing better than Gerrard. He was the the complete top trump card.
I'm a Liverpool fan. Scholesy comes pretty close. Only difference was, Scholesy was a mere cog of the machine. SG had to be the brawn and brain, he had to carry the team.
rman He was quite small but his dad was quite tall and Liverpool knew he would shoot up (become tall). He was direct and used to run past players and would score over 50 goals a season... from midfield. He used to always shake hands with the referees and the opponent’s coaches.
@@crazychameleon123 No, he was on another level to everyone. We had some good battles playing against each other too but his ability and mental strength was clear even then.
Rivals fans still sing his name because he is MASSIVE. He is massive in tackling, passing, dribbling, shooting, goals, and most importantly he had a heart of a lion. He carried Liverpool on his shoulder and won the Champions League!
Some midfielders are too good at passing the ball, some are too good at crossing, some are too good at dribbling, some are too good at scoring free kicks, some are too good at defending. BUT, you will never name a single player in history of football that can do all these stuffs, well except STEVEN GERARD. He’s got the whole pack of these qualities. Don’t try judge him with trophies. We’re talking about individual talent here. He is not only the best midfielder of his generation. But also the best midfielder of all time. Period!
To say he is the best midfielder of all time is a bit too much. Yes he absolutely beast of a player, but not the best of all time. He was a complete midfielder but...... Zidane and Xavi takes the best midfielder of all time award. And if MARADONA decides to play in midfield then he will go home with the title.
I can actually name one or two in the likes of Zinedine Zidane and Paul Scholes. Ok Gerard was better at scoring than Scholes but they all were complete in their own way. Steven and Paul were the face of hard work but Zidane displayed class everytime he touched the ball so I dare to say the best middlefielder ever was Zidenide Zidane
I admire players like Gerrard, Totti, De Rossi, who had the balls and loyalty to stay with a team, even though the offers probably poured in from so many different places. They bled their team colors, and that is mighty admirable.
He was an outstanding athlete and made amazing tackles and interceptions. He could dictate play with his passing. He completed many successful dribbles. He had incredible vision and made tons of assists. He scored great goals from range and up close with incredible power and precision. He helped keep Liverpool competitive during an era where the club was almost bankrupted by the leveraged buyout of Hicks and Gillette. He was one of the greatest midfielders of all time.
The best midfielder forever. There are many great midfielders, and I don't want to compare great players against each other, but versatility of Gerrard was on a different level. The absolute top player.
Hendo is magnificent and he has a POTY award to prove it, Thiago's talent is undisputed, Gene, Naby, Ox, Milner even Lallana served well. But can you imagine prime G in today's Liverpool? I am having goosebumps just thinking about it.
Thanks for the video mate. If you ever decide to take it down, please let me have an offline copy. I've bookmarked this to watch it everyday. How no one ever made this video for Gerrard, I will never know. Could have added another section for pace. And maybe multiple positions played and excelled in. Simply the greatest midfielder ever.
He was so goooood at his prime that when i was young, kids become KOP because of his performance 👍👍And i think KDB is only player who has similarities in Gerrard's style & quality for now
yes, KDB's dribbling, vision, passing, shooting etc. is similar to Gerrard's, but the defensive side of his game is no where close. Neither does he have the leadership qualities of Gerrard, carrying an entire team's weight on his back.
On of the football legends, next to Raul, Zidane, Del Piero, Pirlo, Rooney, etc. What a surgical precision of passing ... Genius of football. Unfortunately this time of football won't never come back...
The passing is what amazed me the most everything was pinpoint, couldn't asked for it better even in his own half unreal, this man single handedly carried liverpool through one of their worst periods in their history, name another player who is able to do what he did.
Gerrard was insane by today's standards... Wow I never really knew just how good he was! I miss him bad now and im not even a Liverpool fan lol these years have passed and I doubt we will see anything like this again from and English player
Stevie is my best midfielder to pair with any forward of any generation in football history. He literally made strikers look better than who they were meant to be. And his leadership and captaincy is for me unmatched if you think of what he had to work with compared to others!
I am an Everton fan and do you know what to do be honest he’s one of my personal favourite and will always be remembered for his quality, sportsmanship and flexibility in his positions
when i was 6, my Pa introduced me to football. 3 things from him is: England, Liverpool FC, and Steven Gerrard. He even had alphabet stickers spelled "Gerrard' on the back of his bike helmet. At the age of 7-14 when i was active in football, i always idolize Gerrard, especially because his shootings and passings, although i was played as RB or CB. I always had my own "goal" to having accurate long passes and tackles. Thanks to Gerrard, i had been known Liverpool. And from Liverpool, i always believe in magic and everything is possible as long i know how to move forward. Now, it's all memories. Good memories. Thanks, Pa. Best gift ever. YNWA.
Imagined Gerrard is your team captain. This man is boosting motivation, pride, fighting spirit for the team. This man and Torres is the reason im supporting Liverpool in 2009 until now 24yo in 2022. I'm lucky to get a chance to watch him play.
I was at a few of these away games in this compilation and I am telling you I have never seen a more complete midfielder in my life. He is the reason I started supporting Liverpool, he really was incredible to watch and I miss him so much.
Gerrard had it all, speed, stamina, strength, dribbling, shooting, headers, passes. The best way to describe his abilities would be imagining his fifa card with all attributes being 80+ from top to bottom. Despite being a good player he was the most clumsy player I have ever seen.
A great captain A great leader A great tackler A great passer A great striker A great headerer A great penalty taker A great freekick taker A great corner taker A great engine A great big game player Hands down best I ever saw
That’s actually why he scored at the very last minute of THAT FA cup final against West Ham. He said his legs were gone after 90+ minutes of football and couldn’t be arsed to carry the ball forward from 30 meters away so he just shot it.
I watched him during his prime years and also later when he was nearing retirement. He was all action, always at the centre of the cutting edge of the action and where it really mattered, always - offensively, defensively, at set pieces, everywhere - he was at the centre of it. His energy and passion was out there for all to see in all his play, the truest and purest form of a fearless competitor, blessed with all the footballing talent you would need to make it to the top. A legendary footballer.
The best in his position we will ever see love him to bits a legend a leader of men Shown with his managing skills he will be the next Liverpoolfc manger next cant wait😍
Iniesta, Xavi, Fabregas, xabi alonso, viera, pirlo, lampard, scholes etc were all great of the 2000s and were all the best in their own techniques and skills, but one who was competing with all of them for every technique and skill and was always in the top3 and one of the best if not the best was Steven Gerard....tat lad was on a different level, cud do passing like xavi and fabragas, dribble not like iniesta but close to it, long balls like alonso and scholesy, score bangers like lampard, take set pieces like pirlo and defend like viera, he had it allll.
Man that first montage of the tackling back... Jesus, he’d just hunt them down like a man possessed - his body language more like that of a rugby player chasing someone down - haha those foreigners must’ve shit their pants!
One of the greatest midfielders to ever grace the game. Reminds me of Mathaüs and gullit of last generations. Could do anything and everything. Centre forward, full back, sitting midfielder, a 10. Stick him centre half he’ll put a shift in. By far the best midfielder of the generation. Of all time as well
Ive been privileged enough in my 38 years to see some extraordinary footballers. But in my genuine honest opinion. No body could compare to the way he tackeld. Passed the ball. And scored
Loved his passing, free kicks, Long range goals, aggressive slides, penalties and everything. He played almost every midfield position in his career. He should have left Liverpool coz he was the only one carrying the club at that time. For me name is enough. STEVIE G one n only forever and always💙💙
Words can’t describe my admiration for this outstanding player! He was and always will be supreme! And no one will ever compare to Steven Gerrard either! Got to love him!👏🏻👏🏻💖
I'm not even gonna watch the vid as there's no need. I saw all of Stevie G's career and he's the best cm I've ever seen period. Others may have scored more others may have assisted more but none of them excelled in every department of their game like he did and that is what is demanded of that position on the pitch. You have to be complete offensively and defensively and no one past or present has been as complete in both areas of those demands with the ability to do all of it at a high standard. Luckily for me he did this at the club I've supported since the first 5 years of my life but I'm not playing favourites here. Yes Zidane Scholes Lampard all great as many others were but looking at that position and what is required in a team from it Steven is the best there has been and it was an absolute privilege to have him do it for our club made even better with him being a local lad. Maybe someone will come along in the future and be even better in that position but if so I'll probably be long gone by then. Thank you Stevie YNWA
Stevie gerrard complete player under rated during your time at liverpool😊 you were the soul😮 and heart of your team many clubs tried to tempt you away but you stay I wish you all the best in your future endeavours
I played defence (left/right back, centre half),over 26 years, played school/town and county football, had always watched the way Gerrard tackled as he was amazing
What a footballer, what a competitor, what a captain, what an inspiration, what a creator, what a sharpshooter, what a defender, what a legend! Stevie G had everything, there has surely never been a better all round midfielder in world football. Can you imagine him in Klopp’s current team, unstoppable! In the 2013/14 Premier league season, his teammates let Stevie down by losing the league in the last few weeks. They were the best team that season, with Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling and Gerrard and others, in top form!
Gerard can do everything other world class players could do but no other world class players could do what gerrard could. He is the greatest midfielder of all time. You can literally play gerrard anywhere but goal keeper or striker.
My favorite football player 😍 great video, while watching this video i imagined him playing for klop during his younger years, Liverpool would have been unstoppable.
He is one of the best of all time. He was loyal and that's why he doesn't have more titles and money. This guy genuinely cared for the fans. He will eventually manage Liverpool in the future. A true legend.
In terms of individual skill and individual quality, Steven Gerrard is England's GOAT. He had everything in his game including incredible stamina, pace, physical strength and the work rate at world class levels. The only reason why he isn't as lauded as he should be is down to his loyalty to his club, shouldering the entire club for a whole generation. Back in 2005, Gerrard could arguably be the 2nd best player in the world just behind Ronaldinho. Yes Ronaldinho was a midfielder too, but a rather forward minded midfielder. Instead we should call the center midfield the position that Gerrard excels and will be known for as the best in the business perhaps of all time. His box to box ability and all around quality makes him the main man for that position (CM). If we are talking about attacking midfielders (AM), there are several that fits well into that position like Ronaldinho, Zidane, Kaka, Zico, Platini and even Diego Maradona. That is where Gerrard would face stiffer competition.
With that statement im going to assume you have not watched much football...great player of his type dynamic box to box...but most complete..not a chance
@@garymanders1273of course he was the most complete player.. show me anyone better .. you obviously haven’t watched much football.. I have from about 1968 to now.. no one is more of a complete player than Gerrard, no one that includes all the greats. Yes some were great at some things but not all things.. Gerrard was the complete player.
