Water rights are serious business in Colorado. I have heard that setting up barrels to catch rainwater from your roof can be considered a violation of the water rights of a person who hold rights to the water that would normally run off into a stream or river.

La Junta used to be an agricultural area, maybe you've heard of Rocky Ford melons, but the local authorities made a deal with Colorado Springs that gives Co Spgs their water. Metro areas continue to grant building permits to their developer buddies. Then the developments irrigate these broad grassy areas and let the water run all in the streets when homeowners are put under rationing. They also have used eminent domain to seize farms and turn them over to developers, because the owner was "only using the land to raise alpacas and alfalfa." That really happened.

I doubt it's that way in more rural areas with wells, maybe northern Colorado and the western slope (more ag).

They always get something either on late Friday, the weekend or on holidays. Or in Zig's case, when you have to leave the next morning.

Colorado prices are nuts

I wonder about the prices in eastern Montana. I know the prices have really skyrocketed on the western side near the mountains, but I would think prices would be more reasonable in the eastern plain areas.

Having lived in Colorado for five years I can say there is quite a bit of variation in the land depending on which part of the state you are in.

Colorado is not a great choice...too crazy expensive.

@@Michael-hc3iw That’s not what the government says. They made a deal to not hold any water in Colorado and rain catchment systems are illegal. It all has to do with letting the water go to the rivers and flow to other states. I agree with your statement, but that is not the reality in CO.

I have a hospice cat who has become very bonded with me, and I with him. Don’t know how long he will be with us. I am packing and organizing and getting rid of most things as I move from a house to a small apartment. Joey has become frantic. He was always very laid-back, but I think his illness is getting to him. i’m moving in about a month. Now when someone comes or I’m running around the house like a crazy woman sometimes he pees on the carpet. I’m pretty sure it’s stress related, but I don’t think I can take him with me. Cats are OK where I’m going, but I can’t have him peeing indiscriminately because of the strong urine smell, which is almost impossible to get out. It’s such a dilemma because I don’t know how long he would live. If we weren’t moving, the moving would stress him out terribly, some days I think he’s in big pain and other days he seems somewhat OK. He has a tumor along his spine, his central nervous system. I’ve tried putting a diaper on him but he is seriously overweight and nothing fits around his belly. I just don’t know what to do. I love him so much and I know he has completely bonded to me. That is what happens to older rescue dogs and cats sometimes. They are grateful for a home and someone to be with them.

Good advice to consider. It's always better to hear as much as possible from long term residents.

It’s a drought in Colorado too. I have lived in colorado my whole life and have seen our state ruined by the mass overtaking by the wealthy. Anywhere decent would be just as expensive as Montana, and very high Hay prices. We do have better weather in the winter than Montana tho. But that comes at a price less water. And a lot of the hay ranches north of Denver by Longmont have been sold to build acres of tract homes.
