In this Siem Reap Vlog, we arrive at Angkor Wat in 2022 to show you what it is like now. We experience Angkor Wat during Cambodian National Day 2022, for the Cambodian Water Festival.
My first time at Angkor Wat was a memorable one!
I hope you enjoy this Cambodia Vlog!

When visiting Siem Reap, I recommend study a little bit about Cambodia history. The Khmer empire control over vast majority of Southeast Asia. Angkor and Bayon temple was the symbolic of the empire and you’ve visited both of them. The technologies to build was ahead of its time. The resources and human power to build such momentum was massive thus required stability and great economic of one nation to achieve such wonder. If you know its history you will be thrill and amaze but if you don’t you gonna feel like you watch normal fallen stones of the great past.

It not true. Khmer empire just around IndoChina area only, not vast majority control Southeast Asia region. outside IndoChina area such as Malacca, Indonesia, Borneo, Sulawesi, Philippines, Myanmar and Timor Leste are not under Khamer empore control.

Angkor was built by the Khmer King Suryavarman II in the first half of the 12th century, around the year 1110-1150, making Angkor Wat almost 900 years old. The temple complex, built in the capital of the Khmer Empire, took approximately 30 years to build.

I appreciate you trying to figure out the structural purpose of Angkor Wat. The little pools you saw, in the beginning, were used as a place of prayer. The layers of Angkor Wat represent the mythical Mt. Meru in Hinduism and the temple is dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu. Around the latter 13th century this temple became a Mahayana Buddhist temple.

For my perspective, $60 for the ticket is affordable to enter one of the most magnificent temple compares to ticket to Disney or any amusement park. You can learn more about culture of Cambodia, civilization of people during that era. For Tuk Tuk price, it was $15 for a day for the last 6 years. Also, I invited my Tuk Tuk driver to have a lunch with me as well. I’m a local and I don’t feel $15 is overprice during that time. $17 is not overprice. For lunch, you can ask Tuk Tuk driver to go somewhere else outside Angkor area.
@josieliftsthings
@josieliftsthings Год назад
It’s definitely a once in a lifetime thing and so unfortunately you have to pay it 😂 but I’ve been travelling for a year now, and obviously that’s very expensive. I’m in a budget and it definitely pushed that. I wish I knew we could have eaten elsewhere, I was going to also have lunch with him until it was that expensive. I could barely afford to pay for my own lunch. So I got him some juice instead.
@Dylan0520

@@josieliftsthings Hi Josie, first I wanna say I love the cheerfulness in you and that is what kept me watching. Thanks for visiting and featuring Cambodia. As a Cambodian I am sorry that some of the sellers might have ripped you off a bit like the water, we would get 4 bottles for a dollar while you get half of that. It might have been cheaper if you buy a 2 or 3 days' pass, get a tour guy that could show u around and explain the history and recommend good and affordable restaurants. Make some local friends if you can and they will help you save a lot with your travel. I hope you had a good time despite the price you had to pay.

I got my permit for Angkor from the main building, not a travel agency. There was a long queue and the permit was ready the following day because it was already afternoon. I rented a bicycle from Siem Reap City and cycled to Angkor. The place is huge, hot and there are many stairs to climb to visit the temples. You can safely park your bicycle in certain areas because most Khmer travel by motorcycle and access to Angkor is free for them. There are tourist groups everywhere so you can eavesdrop 😜 in many different languages. They will try to sell you everything at a higher price compared to the city but that's how they make a living. One day is really not enough to visit everything so I recommend the three day permit which is more expensive but allows you to visit every single temple. The smaller ones are the cutest. Stay hydrated because it is truly hot and don't worry there are bathrooms available. Some tour operators allow you to visit Angkor at night because the view is spectacular. If you are a tourist, stick with an organised tour from Siem Reap. If you are a backpacker on a budget, do everything yourself. 🤗🙏😘😉😜💖

We spent 2 months last year in Siem Reap and didn’t visit Angkor Wat. The price threw us off as well. We are also travelling full-time so have a different budget than someone who is visiting as a vacation spot. We are going back in a few months so maybe this time around we’ll go, maybe 😂. When we add the price of tickets and a guide (so we aren’t just lost at what we are looking at the whole time), it’s steep 😬. That is almost the cost of our rent for the whole month at a nice villa-style apartment in Siem Reap. Thank you for sharing your experience on here ❤️

Welcome to Siem Reap. We’ve been living here for 3 years now. It is a very peaceful town. We’re sorry for your experience here. You got rip off from the lunch there. It’s a bit expensive tho and even the tuk tuk. I think it should be $15 or better use PassApp to book for your trip around Angkor wat. It is cheaper rate than. And I heard that there is a promotion for the ticket. If You buy for one day ticket you will get another day free. I’m not sure if they still can apply or not. I hope Government should check on that. I’d recommended Try Me or Madam Much restaurants if you still be here. Their foods are very tasty and the price is very reasonable. There are a lot more places to explore in this small town. Hope you have a wonderful trip for your next destination 🙏💕

Wat means temple so remember that Angkor was a place to worship not a show off of a particular empire. Interestingly, most carved figures represent women which strongly imply a matriarchal society based on agriculture with outstanding irrigation systems and probably the biggest artificial lake built by humans shaped as a rectangular (visible from Google Earth).
