If people called them what they actually are, which is a scallion, they probably wouldn't get confused as much. People from different areas call it different things I guess. I've heard them be called green onions before, but never a spring onion. That's a first for me.

How to not make oil splash on you After pouring oil into your pan, sprinkle a few pinches of salt on top. The salt helps prevent the oil from spraying around as you cook. Salt soaks up some of the moisture in your food, which helps prevent oil splatter. You can also use flour for this!

Carter as far as I know the easiest way to have oil not burn you is to put water on yourself. If you do it won't burn as bad.
