When you are delayed getting round your yards in late Spring and don't get your queen excluders on, you pay for it later!

I'm sure it would be an interesting video, but constantly swinging the camera back and forth is enough to induce motion sickness. Please try to be more conscious of the POV

Another great video. The excluders would have helped but as you said you have a lot more bees for the honey flow. If it turns out to be a good size flow it will pay off for you. How is your new suit working out? The weather here is rough. 90 to 98 degrees and 100% humidity. Makes working bees miserable.

The suit is working out well. It is very heavy so it feels counter intuitive putting it on in the heat but it instantly feels more comfortable that the other suit if there is any air movement. Need a big fan out there in this still heat!

My bees would not build comb and no honey above the excluder but would go to the feeder on the hive top feeder why? the racks under it were full By late summer the giant hornets killed two hives so lost my bees.

Bees are very reluctant to go through a queen excluder to build a super only full of foundation....always try to have some drawn comb to get them in there. Their reluctance to do this results in many beginners first swarms. However, the more likely issue is that there was not enough honeyflow. There needs to be a strong honeyflow or you need to be feeding heavily to get comb drawn, queen excluder or not. Too bad about the hornets but I have only found hornets and yellow jackets to be an issue in a weak hive. Review your mite treatments....that is the root of 90% of hive losses.
