The logic of MF Ghost makes 0 sense when the only good driver is in a GR86 that is going to get smoked by anyone who's a remotely competent driver in a Porsche or Lamborghini. Plus, the best cars of the time in initial D frankly aren't great by any modern comparison, and the drivers in the first stages were basically stock, if only slightly upgraded with what an average teen could put together. You should really look into the history of both series and see why MF Ghost is a sad excuse of a sequel

​@@Missch_1Go to your nearest mechanic, ask him how much would it cost to rebuild your car's transmission with a rally spec ultra close ratio gear set, don't forget to emphasize that you want a 2-way lsd with adjustable clutch packs and ramp angle. Out of the series, only 3 characters have access to classified im house R&D parts and data like that, and thats (Takumi's AE86, Tomoyuki EK9 and Sakamoto's Cappuccino). I don't feel like explaining again with a wall of text because i don't have time today, but you guys are geniuses, being able to figure everything out with Google so work your magic. After that reevaluate　your opinion. No it's not just speculation because Shigeno did release 2 issue of booklet bundled with vol.24 and 36 roughly translated to english as "Initial D official character journal". It archived detailed car settings data owned by the characters from modification parts name down to the exact figure of gear ratio and characters incentive for their choice of certain parts and tyre choices. If you have any questions, ask away, i could flip the booklet and get that infomation in a whim. I will see if i have time for this later.

@@Missch_1 How is Kanata a better character than Takumi, when Kanata has no growth on screen, while Takumi had to learn everything on screen? Takumi wins because he had 5 years to learn everyday how to tackle his home touge pass and even then his wins are not easy to pull off at all, meanwhile Kanata ate half the grid on the first race of the anime with almost no problems (bcs watching a race then doing it yourself are completely different things, plus his car is nowhere near close in power and racing ability compared to other cars, how is that not broken plot armor), even though other drivers went through these races many more times than he did. In Initial D the power differences are way smaller than in MFG, most cars didn't have over 400hp before we got into 4th Stage, plus he only does downhill races most of the time, which makes the difference a lot smaller too. And from what I know about the irl history of the AE86, that thing was actually able to beat cars like the Skyline R32 on actual race tracks, while GT86 has almost no history like that, especially against the cars from the show. The whole situation got even worse bcs now we have the GR86, which is supposed to be even better, yet somehow we still see the GT in MFG instead. Truth is Initial D needed 5 seasons to be called unrealistic, while MFG took less than 1.

I don't mind if the races are in daytime or night time. As lomg as they're able to harness the potential to make a race thrilling in a certain condition. Hell, make it rain.

@@cameronscene I think that a bigger issue would be the silly way the races turn out, the cringey story, the humanoid creatures (the anime kinda improved on that a lil). Initial D’s early CGI was pretty ugly too, even for its time

The thing about sequels and prequels, it seems that it is uncommon where they are better than the original. The only one that I can think of off the top of my head is Star Trek: The Next Generation, which aired about 20 years after the original, and in a lot of ways is a lot better than the original. I can’t think of any other show where the sequel was as good if not better than the original. This point might not be the greatest comparison, but I kind of feel like MF Ghost is similar to the Star Trek shows and films that have been released in the last decade or so, they can be entertaining to watch, but I don’t imagine that they will inspire people to want to become engineers or to get more involved in Cars.

i love track racing and I do it in real life often enough to have it become an addicting habit of mine and i love the gt86 in real life too and want a black one someday. I love competition. The show still didn't land for me and it is because what you said.

If you want something that matches Initial D´'s vibes, read OverRev! It has a very slow start, but once it gets going, just crank up your eurobeat playlist and it is a very fun read

not to kick you in the nuts. but ive heard "refreshing take" or "breath of fresh air" over 100 times. It's bad writing and not in a cheesy funny way. The video i made is not just about the aesthetic. and it's not going to be obvious to people to figure out. I made it out of my own imagination. the camera angles, the way the cars move, the characters, the cheesy love interests, the cars, the story. all of those combined is what makes initial d superior

Even Shigeno himself dropped a disclaimer during an Interview before he started plotting for MF Ghost back when his other projects were not working out. He said fine, he will do what Initial D fans wants if the fans insist, but it won't be good. Initial D works because Shigeno was participating in car culture himself, instead of pulling technical terms out of his ass like how he did with MF Ghost, what you heard in Initial D was what enthusiasts calls "地元スペシャル” or "走り屋スペシャル”, meaning "home field specialty" where special conditions tied to specific touge or Kanjo loop lines, local hashiriya would cater to their local stage and set up their cars acording to their needs. It was this aspect that gave car enthusiasts a nod with all the real life affiliations according to different platforms. Shigeno was close to Ikaten's production crew back in the mid 90's, it's just one of those if you know, you know things. For example: Mako's illegal Sileighty, Seiji Iwaki and Sudou Kyoichi's affliation with Pikes Peak Record Contender Monster Tajima, Toudou School being a portrayal of TYPEONE, Team Spiral's S15 denoting Yashio Factory/Auto Produce Boss, and more.The devil is in the details. Meanwhile MF Ghost draws in a lot of Millennials or Zoomers who watched Initial D once during their childhood and they aspire to be the biggest Nepo Baby of the Hashiriya scene themself. They grow up on sim racing and uses that as a reference to car culture itself. Look, Car Culture was really accessible to the youths back in 80's due to Japan's economic prosperity at that time. Most people got into cars not because they loved driving, it's just one part of their social routine. They don't breath brake dust for breakfast, they just want to hang out with friends on the touge. In MF Ghost we just see faceless manufacturer designated drivers throwing butchered foreign jargons around with close to none personal emotional attachment. The cars from the roster are factory fresh, not saying it's bad, it's just a big "Meh" if you live in Japan, foreign cars are taxed to hell here, knowing most of the cars will not be affordable and attainable until I'm over 30 just does not give me a reason to care. At the end of the day It helps alot when you're writing characters and you speak their language. Shigeno is just out of touch. IMO that's why MF Ghost only works for casual Initial D fans and clueless Sim Racers who haven't wrenched on their car a second in their life, yet they think they could relate because "it's just same" as their modded Assetto Corsa with their busted tyre model physics. It only took me a few visits to comment sections of any Initial D or MF Ghost clips and I've already got assurance that these comment sections are indeed full of armchair "pro" drivers. The whole "Grip to Weight ratio" regulation could be toppled by simply throwing weight off the car( weight reduction), adding ballasts back onto the car's ideal position, this serves two purposes: altering the weight distribution while allowing wider tires (the biggest advantage under Kanata's ZN6 possession), plug holes into the Torque Vectoring system and Electronic LSD maps and if that's still not enough, detune the engine power. Jeez I wonder why no one in the league have it figured out yet except for Okuyama, doing all that does not even require aftermarket part support aside from wider wheels, everything I stated above could be done by literally plugging in a laptop and placing a hunk of dead weight inside the cars.

Your 100% right Initial D just built different. And the fact that MF Ghost is based off of gt racing with a drifting car in it kinda throws me off a bit. And plus there's WAAAAAAAAY to much fan service in MF Ghost. I dont give a flying fuck about some anime girls I came here for racing. Every once in a while is whatever but for every episode and in-between scene is annoying. It like I don't even wanna keep watching because I know it's going to be intrupted by some bs. And I also hate how they did Takumi in MFG. They spend over the course of 5 to 6 something stages building up his character and that 86 and gor all of it to be pretty much irrelevant in MF Ghost is almost like a slap in the face. Like why the hell would you go through all that character development just for it to be thrown out the window in some stupid "rally crash", like come on dude. MF Ghost overa is a pretty good show (hell of a lot better than Overtake😒)and it has the potential to be the modern equivalent of Initial D but so far its kinda missing the mark.

exactly, from someone with relatively good experience regarding cars the 86 isnt exactly a drift build, cause otherwise the welded diff wouldve caused much more tireburn, not to mention kanata wouldnt have settled for a measly 300hp for that, the main gripe i have is that he doesnt face the issue of tires losing traction due to his really rough driving not to mention it has a torque dip at high RPMs, and given his driving style the engine wouldve had at least one blown headgasket, but maybe thats the reason he settled for 300hp@@fireblade21-30

well, as someone with experience with tuning and building cars, i can confidently say that the GT86 Kanata uses is not a drift build, otherwise he wouldve had a high hp engine and a welded differential, and given the boxer engine of the 86 is notorious for blowing gaskets and cant handle high hp at all, its just like how the 4A-GE engine used to be. And in retrospective, ig thats why the lad chose 300hp for his ride, but i hate how they overlook the problem of the GT86 itself, which is other than the poor longievity of the engine, is that in high RPMs it faces a dip in torque, not to mention is that Kanata's driving style is really aggressive for the tires to really hold any grip for that long, idk the tire specs for MFG, but if the circuits were longer then you wouldve seen his tire bursting or his engine blowing up a gasket, or the engine block or the piston getting a crack on them@@fireblade21-30

Thank you for the second comment you left I didn't put a super amount of effort into it but I still wanted to make something cool. And i can agree the mf ghost is doing the best of it's time. The times we are in right now are very underwhelming. Which now affects these types of media to also give an experience like Mf Ghost

I thought wangan was cool but then halfway through it looks like they changed writers or something. and then it got boring. yeah stage 4 and 5 where the worst lol.

Im trying to build up my channel more and trying to figure out what the limits of the youtube algorithm is. But on one thing you said, I watch initial d at least once or maybe 2 times a year for the past couple years and probably could recite every scene. I know I didn't grow up with it, but I definitely do my best to appreciate it because it changed my life.
