We already have enough illegal immigrants coming constantly into Spain, I think this would only make it easier for people to get trafficked into Spain. I don't think this bridge would be a good idea at all. Already Spain is overfloded by immigrants, which they can't really offer opportunities to, and locals are getting fed up of the insecurity it's causing.

Just because you CAN do something does not mean you should do something. In this case the cons FAR outweigh the benefit. What are the benefits? Increased ease of trade between Europe and Africa. What are the cons? The increased ease in which criminals and particularly violent undesirables can cross over the two contenients and cause mayhem on the other side. In this case we already see the negative impacts of African quote unquote "refugees" who have dramatically increased the crime rates in target destination countries such as Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Spain, Sweden, ect. In 2004, I spent an entire summer in Afghanistan and invested a lot of time and money, along with others, to build a school for 600 children in Arkani, southwest of Kabul. The original school was destroyed by the Taliban. Now that the Taliban are back in power, I don't know what has happened to the school. For a more just world, I believe it's crucial that people have the opportunity to educate and develop themselves where they live, rather than migrating en masse to distant places where they may feel unwanted and alien for the rest of their lives. If Africa comes to Europe, that too is a catastrophe. Calling someone as racist is like a shot in the dark if you dont know more about them. What did you do "for the world" till now? Building a bridge from Europe to Africa could be an impressive symbol of connectivity, but do we really need it? The environmental consequences, huge costs, and technical challenges make this idea more difficult to implement than it seems.
These are not reasons why they WON'T have a bridge, but excuses why they WON'T WANT to have a bridge. On the question of wanting to, they would overcome the problems. They don't want to because it's a huge trade bottneck enriching Catalonia, and Spain can veto any aspiration to actually run the project. If it wasn't for that, they should build an artificial island on the Mediterranean side of Spain, like a Mars colony, 3-4 miles off the coast of Morocco. This would be elevated on the southern side to allow barge ships to pass through, but Morocco would definitely toll the passage and gain a similar competitive edge as Catalonia has. Don't even mention Panama canal or Suez Canal. Then there could be a cheaper 7-mile bridge on the north side but that would asking to be blown up harder than WTC.
The best technical solution is not considered here. That would be a hanging tube, like a hanging bridge, but underwater. That would make it more resistant to earthquakes and will not disturb the maritime traffic.
That train tunnel in fact is precisely the same thing as it offers precisely the same possibilities. How are you gonna stop the masses when they decide to go to Europe THROUGH your train tunnel?

Heres something off topic that you may find interesting. :) The name of my country has nothing to do with the interesting and delicious bird 'turkey'...... .....but the name of the bird does have a connection with the name of my country, let me explain. :) In the past 40 years 37 countries have changed their name, partially or fully. Obviously one can not change the name of an apple or an orange etc in other languages, but country names are like peoples' individual names, so if you're named John we don't call you Karen. :) Name of my country has always been Türkiye, it's been known as such since around the 1200's. The name it self has a suffix, '-iye', that is Turk-iye, where the -iye suffix means 'land of/belonging to', just like the Latin suffix of '-ia', which exists in such country names like Austr-ia, Austral-ia, Indones-ia etc. Basically, the use of '-iye/-ia' is the same as the the use of '-land' suffix in country names like Ire(Eire)-land, Po(le)-land, Eng(Anglo)-land and so on and so on. Many would remember the country Czechoslovak-ia which changed it's name to Czech Republic and a few years ago changed that to Czechia (that is Czech-ia). The Latin suffix -ia probably originates from Turkish -iye as Turkish been over 10,000 years is much older than Latin which is around 1300 years old. You are mistaken. The Chesapeake BAY bridge tunnel is not on the ocean. My father was one of the engineers who helped design and build it. It is still one of the marvels of modern engineering. 😊

Europe is an old and dying continent that is poor as far as resources go. They achieved past glory on the back of the colonial exploitation of countries in Africa and the rest of the world. As these occupied countries got their independence, they entered in another form of colonialism= economic exploitation. As China and Russia offered a better trading deal to Africans, African countries started to awaken and demand fair trades. Europeans didn’t like that, so they lost opportunities to Russia and China and others. This put pressure on European economies but politicians used immigration as the source of their economic trouble blaming the immigrants for stealing their jobs, the reality is far from that, these immigrants actually helped a lot by working hard for little money. Despite all of that, I still think if Europe is fair, their best trading partners are always the closest, a bridge between continents can facilitate trade and allow the European businesses to stay competitive with Russia and China in the region which in return will benefit both continents. However, racism is so engrained in European psyche that it will be hard to give up there undeserving sense of superiority over Africans and therefore losing out to the competition. Africans have the richness that everyone wants and whom ever want some, they have to deal with Africans. Period!
