The confusing thing to me about this “7%“ is there is not one food item that I’m aware of what the price was that only went up 7%. For instance Walmart brand spaghetti sauce had been $.88 forever and is now $1.28 that is more than 7%. Another item at Walmart that used to be $2.50 it’s now $3.54 again a food item. Shrinkflation is Israel - there are four food items that I used to purchase at Dollar tree for a dollar that decreased in size and are now $1.25 that is 25% of an increase of every food product sold at dollar tree. The struggle is when you already only purchased low price items non-brand-name items you can’t go any lower than that. Even the vending machine at my work went up 25%! And when gasoline was $1.56 in 2020 and is now $3.99 that is more than 7%. I do realize these are averages but there is not one item that I purchased that has not gone up- and that includes household bills
@ChinkyChan

They lie with statistics, it's one of Bill Gates favorite books. Because I know eggs were 2.50 this time last year, now they are 4.45 for the cheapest carton. That's more than a 50% increase.

Just some advice from a single mom. Prior to going to the store, I see what I have in the cabinets and frig and plan meals according to those items. I also look for sale items or store brands only. Saves money. Walmart frozen vegetables, many our under $1. I did away with paper towels and use cloths I can wash. I buy walmart brand cleaners or $1 store cleaning supplies. As for gas, I plan errands same day to save on how many trips I make. I've also lowered my speed limit. I lower my heat when not home and at night while sleeping. Small changes. All the best.

Inflation is always is caused by credit created from thin air. It didnt help to pay people not to work. Wage inequity has been going up since nixon keft Breton woods and the fed started money printing snd deficit spending. Wall street got rich, middle class was destroyed.

You know, I have heard from some Conservatives the reason why we shouldn't increase the minimum wage is because it could lead to increased inflation. The problem is price inflation happens every year, which is why nothing costs the same today as it did a decade ago. And yet, because the federal minimum wage hasn't increased in over a decade, anyone who works a minimum wage job has far less spending power today then they did 10 years ago because of that same inflation.

I'm in Texas and am thinking of trying youpon tea. Supposed to have just as much caffeine as coffee. Got plenty of that stuff around here. I generally don't leave the house but once a week anyway, since I retired. Dry my clothes on a clothes line. Haven't used the dryer in several months. Garden is started and extra seeds put away. Plum, pear and figs are a bit too young yet to produce. Strawberries and blueberries are in. Garlic and onions are doing great. Potatoes go in this weekend. Buying bulk ancient grains for my morning cereal. Hoping the bees do good this year. But, it's an Easter Egg Hunt each day for the eggs. My chickens are free-range.

@@happycook6737 Texas is huge. Lots of different planting zones and soils. The Rio Grande Valley in South Texas has a huge citrus industry, being subtropical. Panhandle grows wheat. Central Texas is big cotton and corn. Being on the Gulf, we get hurricanes, and those areas get tons of rain. I think the record is 40" during one hurricane. Plus, we have multiple rivers. Landlords and big businesses are price gouging because they can because they've created monopolies. They were able to create these monopolies because the regulations of the last two years have benefitted the big corporations.
@vshah1010

Small landlords are not a monopoly and they can't price gouge. Expenses include Real Estate taxes, which may be too high and which the landlord has to pay, and that keeps expenses high. The city raised the RE Tax, even while they were closed for the first year of the pandemic. When expenses are high, the landlord has to charge more rent.

General inflation is the result of one thing, and one thing only: An increase in the supply of money, none of this is related to supply and demand of individual goods, but rather the supply and demand of "currency". The Federal government uses the Treasury and Fed to simply create money out of thin air. Inflation is NOT everyone having more money, it's everyone having more worthless money.

Why does no factor in corporate greed? Corporations earning call suggest companies are making tons of money off of inflation. Companies (many that are basic monopolies) are raising prices higher than needed and pulling in sometimes near record breaking profits. They are doing this for the profits (obviously) but also to frame inflation as being caused be the increases in wages some workers are earning. I am unsure as to why this is not explored and highlighted be the media and why no action is being taken by governments to address this. I believe it has to do with corporate money in politics. It's interesting to reflect on how much would get done for the average American if corporations were unable to buy politicians on both sides of the aisle.
