To me Finn was looking to belong and he chose his friend over his family. It was a stupid move and in that moment he should have known he was being tested. It's not Tommy fault Finn pulled the trigger on the wrong person.

I was really surprised to see how Duke almost immediately integrated into Shelbys, even though he could've blamed his father for abandoning him, trying to seek revenge. Sadly, Finn was the youngest of the siblings and was tossed into a world of crime and power that he didn't help grow from the very beginning. He always seemed quite disconnected from his siblings and the stuff they were doing. He grew up with a mentality that prioritized close relationships (such as the one with Billy) instead of standing by his family no matter what. In the end, he didn't realize the world in which he existed and paid the price for his ignorance.
@mikeoath9541

The main difference between The Shelby brothers and their baby brother Finn was that they survived the world war ,went through hell and fought harder and nastier because they all agreed they had died on the battlefield and each moment after that was borrowed time, Finn on the other hand never had that and by the time he was inducted into the gang a lot of the fighting to get the peaky blinders where they were was done by the older brothers. Finn basically lived like a trust fund kid who didn't really do the dirty work for the money the Shelby's had and was more loyal to his wants and desires that he believed he deserved to enjoy than the older brothers. Finn tried to save his friend who had betrayed the family and got his brothers nearly killed and by that action betrayed them over and over again so Tommy saw him as a loose cannon and security risk but couldn't kill his little brother so instead stripped him of everything he thought he was. Duke being brought in near the end was basically a full circle for Tommy at the beginning he was a drug addicted gypsy with PTSD with next to nothing in a rundown house running a betting racket and by bringing duke into the fold he gave the gang that same purpose and drive that drove Tommy in the beginning of basically having to prove himself to the bigger people before Tommy walked away with the same nothing he started with.

The people defended Finn need to go back look at the seasons! So many test that he failed. He didn’t even want to take the eyes of the people that “supposedly” killed Arthur at the boxing fight. Also he took that bullets AGAINST DIRECT ORDERS FROM TOMMY. He deserved what he got.. duke made more of a presence in two episodes than that little spoil shit edit: also, finn didn’t shoot the Italian he thought was a gangster from New York. He even admitted it to the family. Arthur even told him to shut up when they were voting for truce or war, he was never a real Peaky.. he was just lucky to be birthed with the last name.

Umm finn was a kid. They established in that season that as thr 3 brothers sorted most stuff he never had to get his hands dirty. So it was a big change when he had to use the rifle to defend them. And finn said he couldn't do it. He was a kid cut him some slack. Remember he didn't have the same upbringing the 3 had. Finn was protected by them and lived comfortably because of it. And in season 5 he got shot because he wanted to prove himself. He wanted to match the big bad shelby name since as I said he didn't do anything with it. He just lived off it like ada. There was a 4 yr time jump after we find out Finns friend is an IRA informant so he's had 4 yrs to to buddy up to Finn and seperate him emotionally from his family to gain his loyalty to use him for information. Also Finn is so much younger than the rest of his siblings so that bond is not as strong. Plus Finn has been defying his brothers in others areas as well. Arthur picked up on it anyways and warned him too. Poor Arthur was too messsed up in the head to follow through! So it doesn't seem that out of nowhere to me.

Nah.... Tommy and Arthur might have known this for 4 years. Tommy could legit just carpet searched through all the phone calls in and out of his corporation to find out the rat immediately. Similar fashion on how he found out Micky is the informant. And most of the time, the informant sold the information to the highest bidder. So Tommy been having eyes on Billy for a long time. Tommy has been very careful for the past four years and not really use Finn/Billy duo on his dealings. One example is Isiah is promoted and in charge of betting shop.

Personally I did not think Finn's 'betrayal' warranted him being ostracised from the Shelby family. Bearing in mind how Polly revealed the plan to have father Hughes killed during her confession, which resulted in Tommy almost getting killed, and Arthur being under Linda's thumb for much throughout the series, are instances not too far removed from Finn's behaviour.

It wasn't unfair, Finn was just never actually a Shelby. Everyone in the family had to take at least one test or hardship to own their spot, except for Finn. He was supposed to be in charge of the betting shop, but he proved irresponsible and weak. When he was supposed to be a sniper in season four, he couldn't pull the trigger on someone he believed to be the enemy. Test failed. When Finn was with Aberama Gold hunting down enemies, he was told to stay behind and not put himself in danger. He nost only disobeyed direct orders, he also got shot in the process, and hadn't Aberama come to his rescue, Finn would probably have died from a second shot. Test failed. He was also taking drugs while at work and spoke openly about one of Tommy's secret plans (the assassination attempt against Mosley) in front of someone whom he should not be trusting. Arthur literally told him to be cautious about who he talks to, yet he still tells the new guy everything about Tommy's plan. Finn is directly responsible for the deaths of Polly and Aberama, as well as the failure of the operation. Because Finn was such a massive failure, Isaiah was put in charge of the betting shop, and Tommy trusted him way more than Finn. And when he finally got the chance to redeem himself, he chose his "friend" of five years over Isaiah, whom he was friends with for his entire life, as well as Duke, Tommy's son and his own nephew. I can kind of understand Finn fot not trusting Duke, but Isaiah? Thats absolute betrayal. The fact that Charlie knew this was going to happen only proves that it was obvious Finn could not be trusted. To conclude, Finn is a complete disappointment and traitor to the Shelby family, and he got what he deserved. Leaving him alive was actually almost too nice, considering who he indirectly killed.

Plus its weird how duke was the one to order him to kill his friend.. You know the guy who is new to the family and who he's only known for a few weeks. Plus he was drunk and confused to me it seemed like they were turning on him.. Watching it i thought they were there to kill finn for something. I think a lot of the last 2 seasons were a bit forced. Tommy never wanted that life for Finn early on so it doesn't feel right that he was disowned for not wanting to kill his friend. Especially when Tommy showed mercy to the doctor at the end..like somewhat similar. I also think the Michael vs Tommy beef was forced too. I really thought that when the bomb exploded Tommy was going to walk in the bar sit next him and let it be revealed that Michael had known what Gina was doing and set up everything, and it was his plan to give Tommy America. He was too smart and loyal early on. He was in jail almost the whole last season and then for as smart as he was his plan was to tell the guy he threatened to come unguarded and trust him? If they had just done that and saved Michael in a way that finally proved his intelligence and undoubted loyalty, they wouldn't have needed to bring in a random missing kid, and it could have been Michael Vs Finn in the movie

I think finn was unable to be part of the dark side (shady) business of the family and tommy wanted him to become a normal citizen (be part of the light side). Also, I think it doesn't matter if finn knew that billy was the informant, if he was ordered to do something, he should have just obeyed. Finn never had the same mentality as his brothers. I think it mainly stems from the age gap. He didn’t experience the same horrors they all experienced together in France and for most of his life he’s lived in a world where he didn’t have to work for or worry about anything because the rest of the family had already got everything set up by the time he would’ve actually been capable of contributing something to the process. He’s basically lived off daddy’s money all his life but in this case it was his brothers and like most older brothers they enjoy regularly knocking him down a few pegs and slagging him off 😄 Billy on the other hand treats Finn like the boss while also like he’s his friend.

For example, Finn gets cast out of the family, and we see no reaction from Tommy, no mention of it from Tommy, nothing. In Finn's denfense....So i never really gave finn a second thought but this scene and what they did to his character really pissed me off. Everyone is so quick to say they hate him and he betrayed them but he actually didnt mean too he had no idea billy was an informant.. No one told him which was stupid.. Then he told to kill his best friend by some random bastard of Tommy's he's only known a few weeks who didn't even want to be a shelby in the first place and was trying to leave because he couldnt handle how billy killed that ref🥴so quickly ppl forget that. Plus they were being shady about the whole thing duke and isaiah were making ME think they were gonna kill finn just because. So i can only imagine what finn thought. But lets be honest here if it had been arthur or tommy directly giving the order and they told him that he killed polly ( you know the woman who help raise him) lets not pretend he wouldnt have shot billy right between the eyes... Come in now Plus everyone saying finn isnt a real shelby are dumb!😅 like he literally is blood he's a shelby.. Whether you like him or not. Also if were gonna say finn is a weak link which yeah he is no doubt there.. But whose fault is that? Whose fault is it that he's not a trained killer or in touch with his gypsy roots? Oh right his family's!!! So soon ppl forget he was an actual child when this all started.. He was cared for by polly, his sister and his brothers..they were responsible for teaching him everything and they just didn't. Like finn said " im the brother you never got around to" he was correct they didnt. They even went as far as to ban him from participating in any blinders sport, they coddled and spoiled him..then they get mad when they suddenly ask him to participate in sport? Nah thats foul asf.. You cant coddle and shelter him and then when it suits you be like "dance monkey" and expect good results. Tommy even fueled his arrogance and lack of hard work by handing him positions of power without starting from the bottom like they did. Show perfectly in his line " finn your a general" he gave him power with no muscle or experience to back it up.. His family didn't teach him the ropes properly and that's NOT finns fault! Besides lets not act like kicking Finn out of the family was reasonable because lets look at the past here.. Who was one of the first ppl to betray Thomas? Oh right the woman who would go on to be his first WIFE!! Also let us not forget his second wife Lizzie was responsible for that whole changretta war which got both his brother and his first wife killed... Yet he ended up knocking her up and marrying her. And Michael.. He literally told tommy yo his face he was going to take everything from him yet he didnt kick him out of the family..just didn't trust him like really! And everyone is thinking kicking finn out is reasonable? His betrayal was completely unitentional unlike Michael who was still considered family till the end..🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

But i personnally disagree when you guys says that he "failed" other tests like killing people just like his brothers does. Don't forget that what's make Arthur and Tommy cold blood killers is that they don't really feel anything because of the War, which Finn didn't lived through. It's a matter of personnality and not of loyaulty, that's why Finn doesn't embrace the gangster life like Isiah did. The best thing would've been to leave Finn far away from criminal business like they did with Ada, but the difference is she firmly said she didn't want to be part of it While Finn felt like he was supposed to be there or he would be a shame because he's supposed to be a grown Man, so he timidly stayed there.

The only problem with Tommy faking his own death and assuming another identity is that the doctor knows he's still alive.

The real reason was that the actor who played fin wanted to move on from acting , other wise Finn would still be in the family

I strongly feel that Finn will be a villain in the movie.

Do you think the bullet with Tommy's name on it isbthe same one he got from the Lees? It was in the first or second episode of the first season.

I really feel like Finn did it accidentally, this was really weird, wish tommy would have at least addressed it in the end, he still his brother

Isn't the timeline mentioned messed up? The IRA and that group was in season 6, tommy and co were betrayed in season 5. Doesn't make sense :)

Billy informed the IRA and they are who killed Aberama, Polly, etc at the end of Season 5 because they wanted to protect Moseley

Honestly if not because of Polly death, Arthur and Tom would probably still forgive Finn. But because he leaked the information the lead to Polly's death, even Arthur can't protect him. At the very end they still give him a final chance by Tom reminding him of his name, and Arthur decided to only kick him out if he still refuse to kill Billy. Polly's death is the turning point for so many character, especially Michael and Finn.

Finn didn't know Duke's intention. No one explained anything to him. He was looking after his friend

Isiah was right there finn should have known

That’s the point. It’s not like Duke did this without saying Tommy ordered them to kill him. And with Isiah right there and following along it was obvious. Finn fucked the family too many times.

Finn shouldn’t have needed to know. Isiah and Duke where there so that should have explained it, but then Finn crossed the line and tried to kill Family. Tommy killing Michael was rather different, as in Michael was actively trying to kill him. Simply put Finn choose his friend over the Shelbys. That’s more then enough a reason kick him out of the family. Had Finn just refused to kill his friend and left he’d probably still be in the family, but would just be cut from any type of business.

Tbf they did exclude him from a lot of the family business, and that contributed into making him weak
