Lia and Marrten continue to be examples of patient kind parents always including Bo and Puck in every activity of living a sustainable life. Love your family life. Great job Lia and Maarten! 🎉 Thank you for sharing your knowledge. 🇺🇲
What a beautiful life you are providing for your children. In north America most of our babies spend 50-60 hours per week in daycare and some of the others in front of the T.V or ipad. We try to offset this by buying them toys and clothes that will never make up for the time lost with mom and dad. Whenever you feel down or overwhelmed by winter rain or other things that troubles you, please remember the incredible gift that you are giving your children. You are all amazing and have come such a long way from when you moved there in your caravan! So much love and happy, joyful vibes for you all from me. I wish you all the very best. Well done! ❤❤❤
Very sad how many ignorant parents there are, my 4 kids grew up on the land, the only time they came inside was if it was too hot, pouring heavy rain, in which case they played under the bullnose veranda or meals & bath time.. always on an adventure making or doing something
Good to see Maarten again (how is the digger)? The whole family taking an interest and working together is lovely and heart warming. Congrats on your achievements. Big 👍from a very wet, very green, very beautiful Wales.
The children have grown so much and so nice to see you and Martin again. The children certainly enjoyed stomping the grapes, reminds me of when my mom used to make us stomp on the washing in the bath before she got a washing machine in Rhodesia. Lovely memories which your children will cherish. Another lovely video Lea and Marten. Have a lovely day.
Lovely seeing the whole family involved in the farm works. It is great idea to have the kids around and learning the joy of family union and farm togetherness. Beautiful! 💞
Good to see your whole family after long time. Happy to see little ones involving all the cooking and other farming things. Great cooking but you're doing it so simple and look delicious 😋. Take care, looking forward to see more nice videos ❤👍👍
Lovely to see all that is happening on the farm and the involvement of the whole family. Good luck with the wine and the new season's garden. Your children are learning so much as they grow. Well done
My gr grandpa made his own wine. My dad had to scrub his feet for an hour! BUT, he did say it was the BEST tasting, & was like champagne. He's never has a wine as good since then. I loved your young son in his bee suit. God bless you and your family 🙏🏻 many prayers 🙏🏻 for you 🙏🏻 Nurse Judi in Scottsdale AZ and Eucharistic Minister
I feel like it was just yesterday you arrived with a tiny Puck and now she's a big sister. I love that you guys are living proof of this dream I share with you.
Wonderful family memories, and also the kids learn a lot by watching and participating: real-world learning, not just abstract (sometimes boring) memorization.
PS the pulp left over from the pressing (called bagaço in Pt or bagasse in Fr & En -- pronounced the same way basically) can be fermented, then distilled and made into a spirit of the same name.
@@ourportuguesehomestead distilled spirits can be used in mixed drinks that are no stronger than wine, liqueurs with herbs or fruit that can also be diluted for drinking. They are also useful for other things than drinking: making herbal tinctures, to sterilize surfaces, as a solvent, etc. But there are only so many hours in the day! You can always just feed the pulp to chickens or pigs... or just compost it.
at once I was shocked, when You cut the feathers of Your hens,🙄... but I must say: You are a lovely family and I like to watch and listen to You... Puck and Bo are so big now and very interested and empathic children... I give You my thumbs up back... 😊❤️
How encouraging for you to get those autumn rains to vring yiud very dead garden back to life. Your tenacity to hang in there was rewarded. How lush the bew plantj gs look after the rains. I do hope you reap an abundant harvest from yougr autumn /winter garden. How delightful to see how much your wee children have grown. They are your blessing from God, love and raise them well , you have a beautiful environment for them to know their Creator as the toil with you among the Creation of nature. Such a joy to follow your family dynsmics abd be able to offer you all love and prayers for success. Til next time, blesdjngs from Down Under.🇦🇺🤗🙏💞👌👍✌️
That's 30 gallons! Approximately. You go guys. Lots of hard work! I applaud you two! I'm in AZ, & love watching your vids. I'm so glad you cook & harvest! I love you guys. ✝️ nurse Judi in Scottsdale AZ & E Minister.
Lovely harvest video! There's another way to remove honey that will keep the hexagonal cells of the honeycomb intact (without damaging the cells) is to stand a frame vertically on its edge, and on one side, use a large hot knife to cut/scrape to cut away the very outer layer of the wax to expose the honey-filled cells; then place the opened honey-comb face down over a tray, so the honey drains out. and after all the honey has drained out (each side) you can put the frame straight back into the hive (and you wont have to crush up the honey comb or sieve out any wax, because you removed it ahead of time).
In previous years we used our spinner, but this batch was so small it didn't make sense to use it. This way we could just let it sit overnight and be done with it :)
Thank you, thank you. You fitted so many activities into this video. It all looks so developed, especially Bo and Puck. Thank you for the recipe, that will be on my menu tonight. 😀
For the longest time I had no idea what a Courgette was, but thought it must be like a Zucchini. I finally looked it up and they are the same plant. In the United States we call it by the Italian name and England uses the French name. However there are many other plants or varieties that I do not recognize. Maybe I'll catch it's name on a future video and can look it up too.
What a beautiful update. Everyone looks well and happy! I love that Puck’s hair is still a lovely auburn. She has gotten so tall… and has Bo. You’ve created a wonderful life for yourselves.
The "cake" as u call it - the remains of grape juicing - must be rock hard at the end! If ur tools cannot do that, just crumble the cake a bit and leave it for another 2 or 3 days. It will then juice much better. Also for the white grapes - that last bit of juice is the sweetest (for the red grapes that is the juice with the most tanin content)
@@ourportuguesehomestead I had 360L of must last year, 100L I preserved it as must, the rest was for wine making. 100L of sweet must was consumed totally în about 6 months at best. :) Good luck!
I thought that if there are farms with horses nearby you can ask for the horse manure. I'm sure that they'd be happy to have you come by and shovel it out. Obviously, you'd want the manure that has sat a while to avoid the heavy manure smell. Also, if there are tree services you may be able to ask them for the left over wood chips? Not sure that this is as available in Portugal as it is here, but it may be viable if they can deliver it. Espero que vocês venham aproveitar isso onde vocês vivem. Boa sorte
We’re kind of in the middle of nowhere, so we don’t have the kind of tree services that exist in city areas. Most people still charge for the manure, so for now this is easier
Excelente vidio adoro esta familia e ainda gosto mais ver as crianças ajudar os pais em tudo é uma maneira muito saudavel destas adoraveis crianças crescerem. Cá espero ansiosamente por outro vidio God bless you all 🙏👍👍👍👍
Wow, we pick our own grapes for wine but nothing like that quantity. Picked them late this year as no time earlier and nice and sweet in the cold weather. Those grapes you picked look very plump and juicy. And that is a good solid heavy duty press - we only have a mini one for our excess apples!
I really am loving your new way of doing your Vlogs it's lovely to see you so relaxed. Amazing how we have watched your family grow, look at the size of them now. Loved his little beekeeper's suit although I would freak out with all those bees flying around me lol. I'm just a scaredy cat 🤣 I could taste that honey lol
Next time ferment it already with woodpellets underneath also you should grease our oil it before installing it with the grape must underneath and if you have extra cash just buy a second Dornan this way all you need to do is drain the juice from the first then transfer the grape into the second with the press
Where I live, up till now, we've had only one growing period. But with climate change, some plants are getting harvested early enough for a second crop to grow. Making plans for next year.
Reminds me that I should get all my seedlings in the garden! There’s no shame in using plastic barrels, they’re so much easier to store for us and super light weight!
Yes, it's time! The guy from our local shop says the cabbages need the August sun, so I planted a little earlier this year and it seems to be going well :) Some people are very snobby about what to use for wine!
Thank you for sharing your remedies! I am going to try a couple of them. My hands look a lot like your description for the same reasons. So going to give it a try. Also, will remember the bi-carb and band aide trick for cactus spines. Thanks again!🙏🌺
Your dog doesn't have a beekeeper costume. 😀 But seriously, good video production. The granite topped cabinets in the kitchen are nice. Your daughter's haircut is very nice. The deep purple grapes are striking. I was wondering what the grape varieties were and what the variety/type of wine you were making was.
Hi Lia, you work hard and Marten too; both work so hard and with the kiddies too. No crime in buying seedlings and making things a little easier on yourselves. And when you buy at local markets you will be helping small holding farmers out, like you. The wine, well that's a little perk of the job, right? Much fondness X:)
This is just awesome. We've just started our own adventure in Central Portugal. We didn't have the time and knowledge to make our own wine this year. So we saw all the grapes go to waste. Such a shame! I'm jealous of what you've accomplished and hope to be in a similar position somewhere in the upcoming years ❤😊
@@ourportuguesehomestead Yes, I've been following you guys since some years now. When we were still back home in Holland, fantasizing about what you guys were doing for ourselves. Now, after 1,5 years of travelling through Europe, we finally found a place to start a similar way of life. And indeed, no rush 🤗
