Don’t pet them because they have poison in those pimple things on their skin and if you touch your face or eat after touching the poison then you can get sick.
For people expecting a reason to not pet toads, its because when touched these toads puff up, those big bumps on the sides of their head have secrete poison in them, and as you may guess, poison isn't for human skin
If y’all have pets make sure they don’t bite those bc it will kill your animal , I learned the hard way last year I lost my dog bc he decided to bite one.

I use to have a road that lived in my basement on the concrete floor for a few years. I stored a lot of stuff down there and did laundry down there but I’d leave the sliding glass door cracked and he’d go in and out all spring and summer for years. Seen him kill spiders and many other insects I don’t like so I kept him around lol
The snakes must be in the grapevines where I live. We have two toads for neighbors, but I haven’t seen them in a while because it’s been too dry. I never seen a snake in the yard, just lizards and skinks.

I know a reason why you should never pet a toad. I was at a river side, riding my bike with my dad and my sister. And we saw a toad, and we just wanted to pet it. And so I got of my bike, and went to pet it. the second I looked back at my bike, it was not there. My dad and my sister was confused where it was, and an elderly said someone took it right went my and my father and sister was not looking the guy took it at lighting speed and just took off, I had that bike for 5 years, and I'm still sad that its gone :( Thats why you should never pet a toad, and this story is real.
Hognose snakes eat almost exclusively toads and have rear teeth that are specialized to pop toads when they puff up. I love toads! But hognose are definitely cooler
