It's pretty well-known by this point that the strip casinos are much farther apart than they look. It's a common first-time visitor's "mistake" to be, for example, outside of the Mirage, and say, "Oh look, we can see Bellagio from here. Let's just walk it instead of getting a ride." You don't realize you're looking at a solid mile.
It took one day for me to be convinced not to walk there! They have a good free tram system connecting some of the large casinos and decent public transport. You will appreciate it when it’s 105 degrees and you’ve already walked a few miles!
Hey all , 20-year Las Vegas veteran here and ex limo/ taxi driver .. if you're doing the tourist thing on the strip , best thing to do is STAY PARKED , Don't take a Cab ! The city buses run every 15 minutes on the strip .They stop in front of every casino .. you can get a 24-hour pass for only $8 , or a 3-day pass for $20 ..Party on and VIVA LAS VEGAS !!
lmao it's more so to represent a castle, but I get what they mean. I stayed at the Excalibur my first and only time there and I loved it, it's in a great location and within great walking distance
as someone who has walked the entire vegas strip, i definitely think you SHOULD walk it. beat the traffic, take in the sights and sounds of what’s going on around you, and get some good exercise in without it feeling like a workout
Just maybe not in the summer time if you’re not from another hot desert area 😅 My friends and I visited in July and our poor British friend nearly passed out lol
Walking the Vegas strip is a lot more fun than the gambling. The sights and shops are wonderful and truly a beautiful night time experience. Plan for a long walk and you're fine. There is always a taxi if you get tired to take you back.
@@lulux9795 ..I'm a native from LA County so, we head out there all the time for the entertainment. I'm also a Trek fan so yeah, been there for the annual conventions and was able to visit the Hilton Star Trek Experience when it was running. Fun times.
I walked from Fremont street to the Excalibur stopping twice firstly by the hungover photograph sign then twice more towards top end once at the flamingo and another somewhere near bellagio I think. Now that really was a pilgrimage for sure. 🤦🏻♂️💀💪🏻🫡👍🏻🏴
The average American can't even walk 50 yards. Americans will stalk a parking space at the mall if they see the current occupant of that parking space packing up to leave, because physical exercise is best avoided at any cost. Oh but they'll claim they're disabled. Gee I wonder how they're health got that way. And yet they associate revving a loud vehicle as somehow being tough, while their bodies are completely useless. They're a riddle I have yet to understand.
The prices can actually be incredibly reasonable. Especially if you go during the week. I go because I live in the Los Angeles area. Hotels out here are crazy expensive and they never go down. Vegas is a quick getaway from LA, it’s 1/4 of the prices of hotels in Southern California. There’s great shopping and dining and entertainment. I don’t gamble. I also never leave on a Sunday because I’m pretty sure that 75% of the people there are also from California and heading home after the weekend. It has taken me 8-12 hours to get home on what is normally under 4 hours to drive. Traffic can be horrendous.
You’re joking right? Las vegas hotels are some of the cheapest I’ve stayed and nicer than most hotels I’ve been to. I’m literally going this weekend and was able to get a room at the Strat for $65/night. In my hometown, a typical hotel would cost about $140 and its not even half as nice. Vegas hotels are generally cheap because they want you to spend your money to gamble. Unless you go to a really nice one like Venitian, then maybe like $200/night for the cheapest room.
Oh I noticed that! First time there all I could think was ' this city is much smaller than I thought it would be',things were narrower than I expected...of course I did go after I had already driven through Atlanta, which is Huge!
@@AlanKRegis Yeah it's called New York, New York Las Vegas. It was created in the 90s and features a roller coaster as well. Place was across from where I was staying (Excalibur) and it looks so cool.
I went from a completely sedentary lifestyle to walking 12 miles over like two days because of this (my pedometer claimed like 34k steps by the time we left Vegas). I walked from the Luxor to Caesar’s Palace and all around the interiors of both and back. If you were in Vegas a couple years ago in mid June and saw a lady broken down in front of the Bellagio weeping while her husband begged her to get up, hi that might have been me suffering for my many poor decisions in my life.
I tend to get a lot of steps in at Vegas too. I'm in a little better shape so the worst I've ever felt was some mildly sore feet, but yeah... people acting like it's no big deal are in for a surprise.
We walked around the Strip. It wasn’t bad. But we’re from the Country, so walking is kinda what we do! 😉 And no, little strolls around the central areas is fine, but if you try walking any real distance, it is NOT pedestrian-friendly.
The shocking thing was the construction and the way the streets are put together, it's actually outright hostile to pedestrians walking in some places. Like you have to risk getting hit by cars to get around if you don't want to take a taxi.
@@compmanio36 Can’t blame them, really. I’ve seen ‘city-folks’ insist on calling a cab or taking a bus just to go two blocks! The Strip is deceptively long, even in a straight line.
This didn’t educate 😂😂 this isn’t to make buildings less intimidating it’s to trick you into thinking the rooms are bigger and nicer than they are. Then you rent one and get in it and see the big window is only 1/4 yours. Lol
Also they hide the fact that hotels are actually long, so you see only the most expensive rooms facing The Strip. If you book the cheapest, or middle prized room, you will probably end up facing a parking lot or a highway the opposite side of the Strip. Be careful when booking in those hotels.
Fine by me if I'm getting a deal tho! Last time I stayed at the Bellagio I had that highway view but I didn't care. Was barely in there and they hooked it up for cheap. Huge corner suite too.
In most cases you can specifically book a room with a certain view. They're a little more expensive than the regular rooms as you said, but they allow you to choose if you want. Our first visit we stayed at the Venetian for a really high priced suite that wasn't advertised with a view; nice looking room but the view out the window was literally of a wall. Second trip we stayed at the Flamingo, spent maybe a little less for a room that was just okay by itself, but we had a perfect view of the Bellagio Fountains.
FYI the Vegas strip is 4.2 mi (6.8 km) long, so if you're going to walk around, wear some comfy shoes with cushion insoles, carry your heels in your bag and change out for photos. (Ex Las Vegas resident) Also, in summer, don't wear thin cheaply made rubber flip-flops/slides as the temperatures get well into the triple digits and will melt easily on the concrete. Bring lots of water and be kind to hotel staff, especially the houseman and maids because constantly cleaning vomit out of elevators/lifts, off hotel lobby floors and sht stained/blood stained, vomit stained linens/towels is not fun. Have fun, follow the laws, please wear clothes when answering your hotel room door (again there are still laws), what goes on in Vegas doesn't always stay in Vegas. ❤
Yep...back in June of 1991, when I first moved here, we parked at Excalibur's. Then later when we were outside the front of Excalibur's, I saw Circus Circus. And it did look close. So we decided to walk it. It did look closer as we kept walking & we did finally reach it. It took at least 2 or more hours of continous walking at 11 pm at night BUT the temp had cooled down to 110 degrees. It was 118 degrees during the heat of the day. We rested before walking back to the car...I have NEVER SINCE walked anywhere in Vegas again that "looked" close.
I like it, it just shows the sheer massiveness of the place. Plus, if you think of it, most castles were the same way, they were supposed to look big and intimidating.
This explains so much about my first trip to Vegas as a kid. I almost got heat stroke and my brother’s converse started to melt from the asphalt. Little poop wanted a cup from EVERY casino on the strip and my Dad said sure! Let’s WALK IT. In summer. In 107 degree heat. Some very very very kind bartender took one look at me when we walked in somewhere and got me a HUGE thing of water because apparently my little 10 year old face was red 🥵 My Mom said later they should have known I was dying because I was quiet. I’m never quiet!
Went to Las Vegas first time for my 23rd birthday with my girl for a week in November. we literally walked that whole strip because everything looks so close and walkable and even walked out to the outskirts about 30-45 minutes walking distance from the strip when it’s sketchy out there but still did it and got to see everything vegas had to offer. Ended up buying a bus pass the last 2 days and that bus will take you everywhere, definitely recommended.
My first time going Vegas, the buses were awesome, second time I went, it was absolute horrendous. Took 2 hours for 1 bus to come and road work every where so bus stops move to different locations
You're more likely to get assaulted by someone trying to sell you something than a pickpocket. Here's another good tip for avoiding people like that. Get a Golden Knights shirt or cap. Wear it around when you don't want to be bothered and just ignore everyone. I once walked past a group of guys stationed on one of the pedestrian bridges trying to catch people to funnel them to a timeshare thing. One of them tried picking me out of the crowd and he comes up to me with the old "Excuse me, can I ask you a question?" They always try to get you to stop with personal questions, like if you're with your spouse they'll ask something like "How long have you two been together?" I used to try to lie to them and tell them that my flight was leaving in the afternoon, but I've heard that they hear that excuse all the time and they still pressure you to do the timeshare thing anyway. That day I was wearing my Golden Knights hat, and I didn't want to deal with them, so I just ignored him entirely. As I was walking away, I hear him say, "Oh, you're a local. Never mind." Also on the Timeshare thing, if you ever do get suckered into one (because these people are totally soulless, they'll tell you anything to get you in the door. They like to hire third party people now to tell you that they don't work for any one resort but for the city itself, which is a total lie, and that it totally isn't a timeshare thing, which as also a total lie. It's gotten so shady nowadays.) Just keep reminding yourself that it's always a scam and never worth your money, and most importantly that time is always on your side. Every second they waste on you trying to scam you out of your money is one second that they aren't out scamming a more gullible dope out of their money instead. Call their bluff. It might take an hour, but they'll give you your free shit eventually.
@@whitworth5s248 unrelated but also not unrelated i guess, the Golden Knights presence in Vegas is ridiculous. I've never seen a team loved by so many locals. You won't even find that in Boston or Toronto which are two of the most hardcore fanbases right now. Yeah, a lot of Bruins and Leafs jerseys come out on game day, but Vegas had Golden Knights stuff everywhere every day, and game day was something else.
@@whitworth5s248 I use the timeshare folk for my own entertainment. I hate staying in the same place every time, and a timeshare of any kind is NOT an investment property. It’s a loss every year until you get sick of it and unload it at a deep discount. So I let them blather away at me while drinking their drinks and eating their food, thoroughly engaged and having a good time with them. I know I won’t purchase, but they don’t. So it’s fun to let them try to make me. I can drag it out as long as a movie, and then just pull the plug and walk away. No guilt if your job is primarily pressuring suckers to make unwise purchases.
I worked at Excalibur. It is like a penitentiary. The employees have to come in and go through a dungeon. And we're not allowed to leave on oue lunch and we are forced to donate to charities we don't want to through intimidation and mandatory forms to fill out.
@@LASVEGASREALTOR Sounds like a Las Vegas thing though, Excalibur is owned by MGM so I can assume all MGM hotels in Vegas operate on the same principles?
I've been in Vegas for the past 10 days having a blast, I fell for the walking but it's not the worst if you have time - its like 45 min from the middle to the south of the strip
I love walking the Strip. The heat can get to you, but most of the resorts, especially those on the central part of the strip, are close enough together that you only need to be out in the sun for a few minutes at a time. Ducking into casinos even if you have no desire to gamble is an absolute must on a hot day.
Lol this is very true.if you loot at MGM you might think that it is possible to jump from one level to the next like a small balcony .when you go really close you realize that every balcony level is actually 3,4 levels.
This trick was invented over 150 years ago by Philadelphia City Hall in 1871, which looks like a 3 story building, but was actually 548ft tall (Equivalent to 54 stories if each floor were 10ft), and it was the tallest building in the world for 14 years, after taking 30 years to build. When it claimed the title of worlds tallest building, it was nearly DOUBLE the height of the world’s previous tallest building, but actually looked tiny due to window illusion, and by occupying such a large land-area (like the Vegas hotels).. Fun fact!
My tour guide in las Vegas did tell us not to try explore other hotels and I guess this was the reason, that they are further than you think and the walkways aren't made for exploring. I remember trying to go to the one next door then looking at the time and thinking better not.
The only thing people should be aware of is the Taxi/Lyft/Uber locations are mad stupid yo! The drop off and pick-ups are on opposite sides of the hotels/casino. If you find yourself on the wrong side, you might as well cancel because they won’t wait for you to walk 15 minutes through a hotel/casino.
Thank you for sharing an actual tip that is really good to know and keep in mind so you can plan and navigate those better. So many comments on here are just people bitching but nothing constructive to be helpful. You tip is helpful!
Got major Oceans 11 vibes from this due to names and looks of buildings. One day would love to travel to see someday🇬🇧. P.S I know the buildings in the 3 movie series are based on real ones, it’s just nice to see what they look like irl.
For anyone who has actually stayed at one of the bigger strip casinos, you realize exactly how massive they are as you try to navigate the inside of one, much less from one casino to the next. I enjoy walking around the strip, but the distance is definitely not to be underestimated, especially if you wanted to cross the street. During the fall/winter when it is cool outside, walking a couple miles to visit some of the cool shops, see some of the attractions, take the trams, etc is awesome. I would not want to do it in the summer though. Even if you are just going a few casinos over, it's worth it to just take a cab (tip your driver a few bucks for making such a short trip) if you are drunk, in a hurry, or it's just too damn hot out.
I know how far everything is but sometimes just down for the torture. When I checked out resorts world for first time I decided to walk back to vdara. My feet will never do that again. At least not in the summer.
Wow I would probably walk forever without noticing. I frequently explore cities by walking around and 8-10 miles a day is pretty normal for me while window shopping.
ON POINT!! Just ghosted an Aquarius about a week ago lol (I’m a Capricorn Sun and Mercury) - before that I’d been single for almost two years. Sometimes I ponder on the unfairness of my love life 😂😂 but then I get myself outta that funk and keep pressing on- I have plants, animals and a child to take care 😍❤️🤞🏾 Love will find it’s way in divine timing 🙏🏾😏 and I was just thinking saying TODAY I feel like a have a few ops (oppositions) due to some recent events that happened me- but I’m too protected!! I need to burn a reversal candle ASAP!! Thank you so much🙏🏾❤️
Walking around Vegas, esp at night, is one of the best things you can do on that trip. It really should be one of the wonders of the world… this amazing place basically built in the desert
My first time in NYC we were at the WTC and thought “we can see the Empire State Building” let’s walk…it’s close. Almost two hours later…..why is this taking so long!?!? 😂😂
Also a reason why most if not all hotel/motel windows with more than a couple stories have windows that don't open is to prevent people from taking their own lives
Mad funny Ive lived in Vegas now for almost a year an drive through downtown quite often an today I finally noticed I said wow Excalibur is big how come Caesars place an ect don't look that big when Ik They are lol
Walking to every casino and mall in a day was really fun. The only downside was getting yelled at by strangers that may have been drunk off their mind and getting told I was too ugly to be a ho anyway. XD good times. Lol
