And a very high end LCD. I'd pay 200 bucks extra for an LCD sku and I'm not the only one. Why haven't OEMs figured out that they can overcharge for certain hardware features that we used to take for granted? What an opportunity!

@@sirreginaldthe4th all of which I don't care a lot about. Thank you for helping me make my point. You're commenting on a video that proves that you can have most of those features with a removable battery too, so I am a bit confused. And please, stop with the "slimness" argument. That's actually embarrassing considering how phones like my LG V20 and V40 (a 7 year old phone and a 3 year old one) are thinner than many modern high end flagships due to the trend of bigger batteries. Sometimes people want a more useful tool instead of something that's slightly lighter and thinner.

Thank you for finally covering these phones. I've been frustrated at the tech media for years for pretending that Samsung hasn't been making phones with removable batteries and headphone jacks. Thankfully, in the past two years or so, they seem to have gotten slightly more mainstream attention. Believe me, it's frustrating to read "phones with removable batteries and headphone jacks can't have water resistance" on a blog when Samsung released a phone in the same year that defies those words. Share kinds of articles weren't even from that long ago, I'm talking like 2017.
@awesomeferret
@awesomeferret Год назад
@Kanaba Nakamura oh, I haven't forgotten about them at all. I haven't forgotten about the price and losing your cameras with custom ROMs either. And apparently, they forcefully run the UI in 1080p instead of the obvious 1440p (I'm not expecting them to run in 4k all the time, obviously). So the solution to that problem has been effectively blocked by Sony with the camera DRM. Thanks, Sony. If the Sony Xperia one line cost 800 bucks or less, I would already have one. Because I can get an older one at that price, I'll probably do that, but I'm going to use my LG V40 for a few more years because it's just too good, and I bought it brand new for 350 US dollars. I'd be paying 800 bucks for a better camera, better battery life and a higher refresh rate. That's the problem with people like me who kept using older phones to keep premium hardware features: you have to spend a HUGE amount to get feature parity with your 7 year old smartphone, where if you had a 2 year old phone before, then a phone with MicroSD and a headphone jack and 1440p or higher display may be an upgrade.

We buy a new phone, probably at least a year sooner than we might if we could put a new battery in our existing phone! Outside of Samsung XCover line, only Fairphone gives user-replaceable battery on their smartphone. I'm more than happy to take a thick phone with removable battery over thin fragile phones that can't remove the battery. As for this XCover 6 Pro, it does show that Samsung has no problem giving USB3 with wired video output and DeX for a phone with Snapdragon 7 series SoC. What's even more ironic is that the Tab S7 FE 5G with Snapdragon 750G SoC also support wired DeX. By right, the A42 5G, A52 5G, A52s 5G, and A73 should have no problem getting such a great useful feature as well.
@Daniel-dj7fh

I've worked in a bakery for years and so haven't owned a NONruggedized phone since 2015. It started with the s6 active which lasted until it got run over by a jeep cherokee (which actually happened twice but it survived the first accident). Then I went to the s8 active which I bought refurbed in 2017 and which finally got the battery bloat of death last week. It survived being dropped in buckets of raw eggs, run over by rolling racks full of cake, knocked off my work bench a million times. So this week I've upgraded to the xcover6 pro in the hopes that it lives up to its predecessors' legacy. Hate the name, but love the phone so far. Ive read a few users having screen issues from the phone getting bent in their back pocket so imma just slap an otterbox on it anyway. And Ive already had the Android12 battery drain predicament which is easily fixed. You have to shut off Always On and responsive screen brightness and it goes back to normal battery life. its trying to use the camera as a light sensor which is foolish and i 100% blame android and not samsung.

For the price i paid i think it is worth it but the flashlight and the wake up/sleep button are my only 2 things i had any issue with.

Buyer beware - I just bought one this month, and I have been slammed with junk emails, fishing emails, and - especially - attempts to install viruses via email attachments. I am getting approximately 60 of the emails each day, starting at 5 a.m., waking me multiple times every morning. As far as the phone, it has been a little glitchy. I think it is because I had to buy it via Amazon, so it is not optimized for my carrier, T Mobile. For example, all proper nouns are in all lower case letters. Additionally, voice-to-text is horrible...even worse than with the Ulefone Armor 9 it replaced (that is a horrible phone, btw). Ditto for auto-correct. I don't understand why new phones today perform these tasks worse than phones ten years ago. Now you know. I simply cannot get my head around how this review dances around the elephant in the room, which can be boiled down to: No craftsman or hiker has EVER asked for a phaplet! Since this is the two main target groups for this phone, it genuinely seems odd that they've gone with the 6.6'' design. It is *BONK*ing mad. The Xcover series has committed suicide by making itself irrellevant - especially after 2027 where phones sold in EU must have user-changeable batteries (one of the last selling points for the Xcover series). Would they have used just some measure of user insights (I know, I know), they'd gone with an update of a completely different frame. Or slimmed the FieldPro down...

Gosh I wish all phones had a button for the light. It is so infuriating when you need a light to have to enter the phone and find it to use. That one button is a winner for me. Sadly I already have a new smartphone so will have to live life without it.

I think this is a great phone. I don't know why people slam the speaker so much though, I really don't think its that bad, but I'm not trying to use my phone speaker to listen to music or movies, who does that on any phone? When using speaker phone I have never had an issue understanding or hearing the other person. I've been a flagship samsung person for a long time, and the cost of the new ones drove me to the XCover6, not sure I'll ever go back to the insanely expensive flagships ever again so long as they keep making ones like this. I would probably prefer they bring back the active line though, my S8 active was my favorite phone to date.

What makes this a dad phone? Samsung chose to stock it with 2019 spec hardware, not us. I would have loved to seen it closer to $1k with a modern snapdragon, 8gb ram, wireless charging if plausible, and nicer cameras.

@Tyler Well how much of a tech nerd is your father. Because if he isn't much of one than it be easier to recommend this phone. And what kind of work does he do. My father isn't the most tech savvy person (only uses phone for calls, text, e-mail, etc.) But he also likes to go outdoors and Kayakk. Destroyed two phones by dropping in river, and on rocky ground. As far as the specs are concerned. Yes better specs is better, But if you don't do intense camera work, or play games. than TBH a phone from 2016 can suffice. Also Replacement parts for this phone are cheaper here than in better hardware specked phones. As this phone was meant to be bought by Enterprise, and Enterprise tend to have stock of parts on hand. Its also a reason they didn't went with Oled, despite oled fixing the screen burn in features. Granted the speakers are mono so that is a big negative for my dad. Granted there are other rugged phones with cheaper prices and offer better ruggedness. But given the weight of those other phones (my dad prefers stuff to be light as possible), quality of the software, and the Xcover being surprisingly (and cheaply) reparable. This makes it the perfect phone for my father.

@@im7254 we have the technology to make phones VERY water resistant. I want a phone that's durable and reliable. @im7254 10 месяцев назад
@@sekoncen9559 there is little difference in how long something is submerged in water as if any gets in it's probably going to short something rolling around. air leaving phone as bubbles would suck water in too. gas tightness is very hard to do for device that should be easy to take apart and with many ports, resistance to splashes is all we need with water tension making it hard to enter through small openings. even most adult toys couldn't handle being submerged...

I'm not a boomer, but I'm not young, I really appreciated that I can swap out batteries and use wired headphones when needed on this phone. Other people will say, just make sure your headphones are charged. But that's not always going to work when you are out and about and wired headphones are instant on. No need to pair or anything. As you'd imagine I have this phone and I've paired it with a charging dock which also charges an additional battery. Also, I have a wired/wireless headphone combination. When it's charged, I can use it as bluetooth, when it's not, I can use it as wired as well. Best of both worlds!

Xcover6 drop test certification 1,50 meters, Lenovo Thinkphone 1,25 meters. There is no microSD port, and no 3.5mm Audio on the Lenovo. Battery is non-removable on the Lenovo and it does not have POGO pins to easily charge in a dock. XCover6 has Gorilla Glass Victus Plus vs Lenovo with Gorilla Glass Victus. But the Lenovo has better performance overall in CPU, cameras, and charging.

I hate huge phones. I keep them in a front trouser pocket, and every time I sit to tie a shoe lace, or bend down to pick something up from the ground, the phone usually maxes out in the pocket space, then becomes a curve phone. I've managed to put a slight bend on a Nokia X20. A huge phone is also a magnet for taking a smack in a factory work environment, or in the railway working world, where bumping tables or rolling around on ballest under rolling stock usuall kills them. But I also want a phone that looks half decent, has good features, but most importantly - WORKS. I upgraded from the Nokia X20, after my T20 Tablet had to be replaced due to the battery not being charged one Christmas (Rookie mistake), and the X20 just being a headache most times, being less reliable with each update. I went out and got the Pixel 6. Great phone out the box. only a month later, and I'm asking myself what the meaning of life is, because it's clearly not with Android, since the Pixel 6 hasn't been able to keep a cell signal for more than 5 seconds, and compared to all of my past phones, I just can't hear it ring in my pocket, under my overalls. It's so damn quiet on full volume, Google should hang their heads in shame. I don't like Apples camp - too closed, but it does work. And I'm biting my wallet with Android, because Google has gone off the rails with so many updates that break every other phone.

Actually the MicroSD card looks like you can take it out while the battery is in it like the LG V20 - still far from perfect and as it should be but much better then with the battery locks it in place. Now the Simcard is another story.
