I revisit a game for Jankyard to remind some of you all of its janky glory... and it's none other than Avengers Galactic Storm. I had joined a tournament for this fighting game a while back, but never got to try out the arcade mode. Let's see how much this game will make me rage!

Fun fact about this game is that it’s an adaptation of one issue of an 11 issue event in space, more specifically Cap’s team, which is why the roster has little Avengers. It’s basically if they made an Infinity War fighting game using only the characters that Iron Man was with in the movie.

"I'm gonna use Iron Man, cuz they're best friends" Ironic, since the storyline this game is based on ended with the two getting bitter at each other, eventually leading into the Civil War storyline where they actively antagonize each other.

What's also funny is seeing people criticize the roster as being full of a bunch of "nobodies," but based on the storyline, this roster is pretty on point. Not only that, but some of the lesser-known characters even made appearances in the MCU, like Supremor and Korath.

The fact that this game came out in the same year as MARVEL FREAKING SUPER HEROES is insane to me. Capcom really was built different. AND did this every year!!!

This game is such a guilty pleasure for me. First time I played it was at a local laundromat. When I started getting into MAME, this was one of the games I jumped at the chance to play. Not as good as the MvC games, but it holds its own, and as a fan of the comics, it was dope to see Kree villains like Dr. Minerva and Korath fighting Cap and Thunderstrike. (btw, Korath was played by Djimon Honsou in the MCU movies. GotG and Captain Marvel)

I'm surprised you don't know about Thunderstrike. In the late 80's and early 90's, Thor's alter ego was as a construction worker named Eric Masterson. Long story short, when Eric and Thor became separate identities, Eric got his own hammer and became Thunderstrike. Sadly, his character is canonically dead now, but the Eric Masterson era of the Thor comics was a solid era.

Such a JANK game. This even marks as a pre-MVC1 game before Marvel Super Heroes VS.Street Fighter due to its gameplay mechanics. Spending a portion of the meter just to call assist, early days of cross-ups and combo stuns are some of the few things we see on that JANK game.

So apparently this was based on a comic storyline where the Avengers were fighting the Kree. So most of the unknown characters are from the Kree. Black Knight & Thunderstrike are Avengers though and Thunderstrike indeed was Thor at one point.

I get this game is based on a specific comic storyline, but even still, the roster just baffles me.
