Nishikori deserved this win. Injuries are a cruel hand. He was punishing Rafa here. Never noticed before but it looks like he’s walking gingerly early on. Maybe his back was a ticking time bomb.

Nishikori played the perfect game with spot-on variation of baseline strategies to destabilise Nadal on that fast, high-bouncing Madrid clay. It's a shame his back couldn't hold up to potentially close out for a momentous victory. He deserved at least a Master series title with this level of tennis, and arguably one slam as well.

In 2014, Kei beat Roger in Miami and started to run up to one of Top star as next generation of Big 4. so I have decided to watch his match in Barcelona and he won it with a superb performance and confidence, then this match could be a proof of the talent to the world.

It's the sad reality of old grand slam crowds. They always cheered for Nadal and Federer and rooted against/distracted their opponents. Ask Djokovic, he knows it best. He would have been a nobody without superb mental resilience.

Nishikori would lost this match anyway. Rafa is known for his tennis intelligence and he always finds a way. Rafa would of won anyway. Nishikori was not blowing Rafa away.
