This is MASSIVE for the gaming Industry, Epic Games have revealed Unreal Editor for Fortnite and the possibilities are endless. Let's take a look. Leave a LIKE and a comment, thanks for watching.
@@l0rdfr3nchy7 well said but going by the first ~45mins of comments people are just gonna be falling over each other in a mad dash to see who can praise this the hardest, the amount of comments from people about to break trough by making their own COD clone is crazy 🤣
then you had absolutely no clue what portal as ever meant to be lmao. It was never meant to make unique experiences/entire games. at all. just games modes. my guy expected to be making dirt bike games in a BF game mode editor.
Literally what Bungie did for Halo 3 and Halo Reach for console. This is something most players want. A playground for them to make their own games. Yet, with this level of detail, this is truly remarkable. Definitely game changing if it's what I'm looking at.
You now can compete with millions of developers instead of thousands. You do realize this saturates the market and you will be left with 40 cents on the dollar.
@@jakedubs this is Fortnite specific, but the market is saturated already with the streamlined game engines such as Unity and Unreal. This just allows people to focus more on their creativity.
This isn't unusual for Epic, though. I'm an older gamer and remember Unreal Tournament 2004 releasing with the dev tools on the disc. People were creating full conversion mods for that game. A lot of them were really fun. Some even released as standalone titles later on. I remember dragging my rig and monitor over to my friends apartment with a few other friends and just playing UT2004 mods all weekend. Epic understands that supporting the mod community can keep their game relevant for years because they've done it before.
This is how things used to be back in the hey day of PC gaming. Back then devs released mod tools which is similar to this. There were loads of great mods around that the community made. Kudos to EPIC
Yep. It's funny how people are excited about this, but this was common back in the days of Jedi Knight, Quake II, and Doom. In fact, that's how we got Team Fortress -- out of a Half-Life mod. It's also how we got Dota... out of a Warcraft III mod.
@@billywashere6965 So what’s funny about being excited about this? You said yourself mod tools similar to what we have here is what game is the OG team fortress, so it seems to be pretty logical to be excited.
@@connorbranscombe6819 its funny because people act like this is new and fortnite made a breakthrough but thats only because they are too young to remember the other times its been done - hell even Bethesda have done this with their "creation kit"
Wow. I'm seriously impressed. Have never been a fan of Fortnite and it's community but this is really interesting. Hope this matures the community and enables people to be creative and build their own concepts that get to last
I always avoided fortnite for being too childish but now I am playing it with my kids I am quite impressed. They have a level of polish you just don't get from other games. Constantly keeping it fresh and seem to care about and listen to playerbase.. Crazy concept!
It's a good game. I personally don't like the building aspect but it definitely takes skill. Also, it's sort of predatory on children with it's monetization but that's up to the parents to deal with. My niece's kid got her to buy him so much unnecessary stuff for a free game that he's too cool to play now haha. But, I guess he got a lot of enjoyment out of it at the time.
@@Dethmeister yeah I have spent too much on v-bucks but it's harmless and up to parents. I only play no build with my kids I don't fancy shooting people who turn into houses once shot at.
I started playing no build but after a while I started to see the potential for that extra layer of reactionary based skill. It definitely made for some tense moments. Both modes are fun.
I think the only thing it's really missing is a first person mode and an import for custom player models and weapon skins. I really hope they let this go to the extent that Roblox does where you can change or create basically anything, even UI changes or entirely new character animations.
Even though I absolutely hate the fortnite community, the gameplay and graphics are both amazing. I appreciate almost everything for Epic games and their devs to take Fortnite to the next level.
Love Fortnite or hate it, you can't deny Epic does a fantastic job of keeping a game relevant, updated and finds new ways such as this to expand the experience to even more players. I commend that. I don't play near as much as I used to and I made tons of memories with friends on it. I am however glad to see it's still going strong and the community is enjoying it, and now - even more with the new oppurtunities and ideas that can develop out of this
It’s just a map editor. This was standard 20 years ago. People made first person shooters in Warcraft 3 with the map editor. tower defenses Murder at the mansion _(among us)_ Dota It seems like everyone in the game industry never played video games.
I've been saying forever that user creation features are the best thing for this era of live service games. Fortnite and Halo seem to have the right idea
@FLAM halo finally releasing forge and other community features have atleast made Halo Infinite stable instead of dead. And older Halo games having them at launch (3 and reach) are why those games had legs for years
Unreal Tournament 2004 came with Unreal Engine on a separate disk and that is what made that game so great. The community was given full control over the developer tool and servers were running tons of awesome user created maps, vehicles, character models. It was amazing
I'm so thankful to be alive and in my late 20s to experience all the amazing tech and how far gaming has come in the last few decades. What a time to be a gamer. What a time to be alive
@@amosamwig8394 nah I mean It has its problems for sure man but I'm strictly talking about gaming and technology not all the political bullshit and all that
It’s just a map editor. This was standard 20 years ago. People made first person shooters in Warcraft 3 with the map editor. tower defenses Murder at the mansion _(among us)_ Dota It seems like everyone in the game industry never played video games.
Exactly lol, creators dont care about all of these technologies when they can make the same money with less effort, like making tycoon games. Nobody nowadays uses these the way epic showed in the 3 featured maps
The thing is.. the gaming industry used to be like this... but then companies turned into a bunch of greedy pricks.. Good to see Epic sticking to it's roots and being what all developers should be
Holy crap this is actually awesome. I wasn't a huge fan of Epic Games, but someone there gets it. Often the life length of a game depends on how effective the modding tools are. I'm glad more people are recognizing that the best way to make something gamers want, is to let the gamers make it themselves.
@@nerdyworld938 They will pay "up to" not 40% and this number will surely be weighted based on map popularity. This monetization side of things is also what will kill all the fun out of gaming. No one is making a living off of making roblox games.
I’ve always wondered how awesome it’d be if battlefield let independent modders access to it. It’s be infinitely popular. From cod to milsim, the player base would be massive.
@@brawler5760 It sounds to me the best route for them would probably be a heavily modified version of Unreal 3, but I don't know it they'd want to use the resources, but it would be pretty cool and I think if they did do that, they would end up using that newly modified engine for other games not possible on 4 and 5.
Wow, Fortnight went from a base defense game to now this...I'm honestly impressed and kinda interested in building an experience as I went the normal Software engineering route rather than Game Designer like I wanted. A good chance to jump into what is a very impressive engine.
The thing that impresses me the most about fortnite is not their ability to stay relevant game for years with a very sizable population of players but their refinement when they release updates. It seems to me that compared to almost every other developers fortnite release with the least amount of bugs and strain on systems.
@@Delsin42 for example? I've seen a bunch of stuff in this video that would work, they would have to figure out how to make signs, and a player model + the maps, it would be an absolute ton of work but don't write it off as impossible.
crazy how AAA devs are usually so reluctant to allow any sort of user-generated content or mods, when time has proven, with so many endless examples; that it is the cheapest, easiest and by far most successful way for a game to have continued popularity and relevance. Decades instead of months, and all it costs is making utilities and tools for users
@@Socalfishingkids Not really, Robox has a game that is very similar to COD, and Fortnite already has creators working on older COD Zombies maps like Nacht der Untoten, as long as they don’t use the exact name or anything along those lines I think it should be fine.. I mean even then look at how creative Minecraft has been and there hasn’t been any lawsuits
I love how they’re basically turning themselves into Roblox and they’re acting like it’s the most innovative, groundbreaking thing to ever come out of gaming
How nice of them to re-release the same tools they already released in 2014, but this time lock you into a specific game (instead of just their store) & take 60% cut instead of the 20% they were so proud of. 🤷♂
As someone who just started a halo forge project after several Unreal 5 Lyra projects I feel so jebaited! In a good way! Looking forward to hopping back in Unreal!
I'd like to suggest you do yourself a massive favor and just dont go back to UE. You will just keep running into issues and keep getting lulled into having unrealistic expectations, that's all that UE is good for these days ☹ Just my 2 cents, do what you want ofc & good luck with your project.
@@suicidalbanananana that seems to be just a matter of project scope and scale. I’m a level designer so the megascans assets and now the gameplay framework of Fortnite is really enticing for small scale pvp arenas just leveraging existing assets and mechanics
@@Flajukas Hello :D I think developers who specialize in unreal engine will get to display their talents on a bigger stage with Fortnite editor. Fortnite is still an absolutely massive platform, and so being able to expose more people to your work there is super awesome in my opinion.
@@Drumbsticks thanks for the answer, I won't lie.... I hated Fortnite ever since, but this graphics update + letting ppl create their own game within game.... it's gonna be a changer in the industry for sure.
Because these are projects made with passion first not shareholders. So all the scummy practices are non existent and you get the cod you've been asking them for the last 6 years.
Unreal engine is a massively powerful tool for game development. Narrowing the focus of that tool a bit and allowing designers to easily create content for their most profitable game ever can only bring more profits, AND serve to bring more gamers and enthusiasts into their game design ecosystem. And with how many young people are obsessed with Fortnite that never would have touched unreal otherwise, this is their perfect gateway drug.
It's cool but all the creations I played so far just "feel" like Fortnite. Basically all these creations are using the Fortnite framework (obviously) but it kind of limits the fun for me. Not a fan of how the movement/shooting feels in it. It's still awesome to see though, just limited in that respect.
Dang, Roblox and Fortnite still kicking is nuts! I expected Roblox to go on forever but not Fortnite! Fortnite making strides to keep its play base shows how they have a smart team!
I've got the creative imagination of a teaspoon, and the technological capabilities of one aswell. What some people are going to be able to do with this is mind boggling
Not a fan of Fortnite in general, but a huge user of Unreal Engine. It’s a great description from someone in the comments. Players know what players want. Epic have incentivised in a rev share for experiences and that’s huge for the industry on a AAA engine.
I would love to see a third-person action-adventure with rpg mechanics version of fortnite where you go around a map, leveling yourself and becoming more powerful as you experience the actual game's storyline's events
Yeah there is few games to check out actually…..Agent’s of Mayhem, Sunset Overdrive, Saints Row 3/4 , Just cause 3/4 and Crackdown 3 are all essentially “offline” Fortnite due to how they play.
Mvp criteria is simple....1. Elite winning (top 3 seed in either conference) 2. Elite stats (absolutely cooking) 3. Story of the season (winning streaks, how the team dealt with injuries, what a player did on national tv etc)
Ok yeah, i understand the implications of what this brings to the gaming industry, its honestly an extremely impressive and exciting thing to see, the possibility of quite actually making whatever you want, within the confines of Fortnite.
love this endless potential and possibilities of this. like you said, the concept of an unlimited asset library (like roblox) but with the AAA funding, publishing, and development of Epic and Unreal5 I feel like theres a huge opportunity to see an explosion in creativity in the next few years, in fact i think we're even going to see something more akin to Dreams on playstation
Truly innovative of them to allow rip off Roblox games on their platform. Haven’t seen anything actually impressive about this whatsoever and it’s almost been a year now.
BR was the sole reason i aint installing Fortnite, its worth praising the live service content its getting and how large scale and over the top events are regards the mtx.
Mods and creative tools will always allow communities to extend the life of games. I hope we see this level of freedom given to players across the board going forward
This is insane. Imagine budding game devs designing maps/games based on existing fortnite skins! This in turn would incentivize players to buy said skin/s to get the maximum amount of experience from the designed game.
Love to see the return of community modding. Embraced and supported at that. The nerds of the early days salute the new generation of gamers. So much fun to be had
Never was interested in fortnite and the battle royale game mode, but did like the gameplay mechanics and the fluidity of the game. This may get a whole new market of people into this game if they can create a new world, pretty cool idea!
UT99 had a massive modding community due to UnrealED, something which lent to the longevity of the game. Mods weren't charged though, they were freely shared and just required the server to have the mod and clients would sideload it if they didn't have the map, model, texture or sound already. edit - I had to post this as I may still be a little salty for Epic releasing fortnite and canning UT4.
As if people aren't already working on something like that along with Paragon. Seems the two Paragon camps aren't great friends and I've seen some dissatisfaction from both. The assets were all released years ago.
Of all the online shooters out today, I never would've expected Fortnite to have the most polished, fluid mechanics out there. I've found myself playing it more than any other shooter from time to time.
I'm sure the advancements in UE5, specifically for Fornite will be great for everyone who has a 4090. It's always years until this kinda stuff is even somewhat optimized.
I mean playing the game looks incredible on my humble Radeon RX 6600 ($200 as an upgrade to 1050 TI), I run everything at max at 1440 besides lumen and ray tracing and its phenomenal. Here's a video I made just because the new city that dropped with UE 5.2 also dropped my jaw to the floor: /watch?v=kfvYeWBfMmE I was also able to record and encode at 1080p60 but dropped the final cut to 30 frames for stylistic reasons
Fortnite's graphic from this season and the last season is miles, miles ahead of what anyone thinks of from "Fortnite" 4+ years ago or whatever. It's not a cartoon game, it's just in cartoon style. The graphics at max are actually amazing. And in DX-12 with Lumen and full max settings, it's mindblowing.
I have never touched Fortnite as I'm not into battle royal games but this looks like something I'd find interesting. I Wonder if people could take there creations from this and put them up on something like steam. It's cool to think this could get so many people into game development.
Yep, that "something" like Steam is the Epic Game Store. Epic and Steam are competitors. Even outside UEFN, games released on Epic Games Store only cost the devs 12%, on steam, it's 30%. They only sit where they are with their library and marketplace/support mods and a user base as big as they do because they've sat in their ivory tower as a monopoly. This is going to be a huge factor of a fairer market in the future, more creators, and more power to the players.
They saw the versatility of Roblox’s engine and sought to create their own, it’s very smart on their part. Hopefully more developers with their own in house engines follow suit.
While people underestimate what can be done with Portal this is very eye opening. Imagine what could be done with full official mod tools returning to Battlefield. BF2 for example spawned the Project Reality milsim mod which then inspired Squad and Reality Mod (mod for BF3). Apart from game overhauls the community could create endless maps, weapons, factions etc.
I don't know anybody else who has, but I pre ordered Fortnite when it was just Save the world, and to see how far and what this game has done in 6 years, is actually hard to comprehend sometimes, im glad they are letting the community use and create their own games, and this will prolly keep them afloat for as long as people are creative, very good idea on their part.
This. They are basically outsourcing the legwork. Yeah you may get a jump start and have supportive infrastructure, but this sort of deal comes with chains. Roblox has some pretty hefty chain on its users, especially since they are kid based. The talented kids leave because they don't have the true ownership of their projects and the profit sharing usually is way out of their favor.
