omg this got me shock, i have watched all of your video and this one caught me by surprise. the guy you sat with was my primary school teacher and i think he is still teaching the same school nearby that restaurant. I haven't got any chance to see him in person after i left Cambodia about 8 years ago and feel good to see him looks as good as he used to be.
Khmers have to thank the French for introducing the French baguette 🥖. Cambodians like to eat the French baguette 🥖 with the Cambodian Chicken Curry. The bread is perfect for dipping and soaking up the curry.
Patrick, your wife does not like you to shave your head because she is afraid you become a monk. Then, she will miss you. A Cambodia guy who sits at the table with you said "Drinking coffee in the morning is helping to cut down the grease inside your stomach. It has acid". I don't think so, Coffee has caffeine that makes some people anxious and shaking. Some people won't be affected by the caffeine. Nice hair cut. On the glass door, it shows a hair cut costs $2.50. What's a deal?
I hate the word Colonialism because it’s a woke word using by the left Democrats. But Cambodia was colonized by the French and that did put Cambodia on a different path and maybe the killing field never happened but it did because of the colonization by the French. Thanks for the video glad your back and looking forward to see more videos
Something that mystifies me. Most barber shops have those signs with men having long beards and dark glasses. I think I ended up at TK @ 450 near 105. And yes. TTP is the area to be. 👍
Kinda off topic... but have you ever tried the vietnamese style thai iced tea? There are some vietnamese banh mi and Boba tea establishments here in California that serve some of the best Thai iced tea. Even better than the original Thai iced tea served at Thai restaurants! Just like their iced coffee, vietnamese style Thai iced tea has a strong taste with a hint of bitterness. Their version of milk tea also surpasses the original Chinese milk tea!🤷♂️
Didn’t understand why you went back to US… not the best place to raise children.., you can get great education from some of the private schools in Cambodia…
For a Westerner who speaks Khmer, I’m surprised you cannot discriminate the difference between a protectorate and a colony. Cambodia was not a French colony. It was a protectorate-a French ally. Vietnam was a colony, that is why they are antagonistic towards the French and Americans, whereas Khmers are not. When being invaded by two democratic mobs of people: one in the west (Siam) and the other on the right (Vietnam), it is only natural to call the cops. In Cambodia’s case, they called for French military aid. Hence why they became a protectorate. And hence why Cambodia was more susceptible to French culture and influences such as Nhum Pan Pate sandwiches. Both the Vietnamese and Thais were and still are basically like the encroaching Turkish and Balkan Slavs in Greek territory, or they are like Black and Latino people in America or Jewish and Muslim in Middle East and Europe preaching equality, demanding inclusion, and covetously desiring power.
Your a fool to think that with a label defines the actual situation between the two countries. By definition: A colony has no control over its internal affairs and is a part of the same nation as the colonial power. A protectorate continues to be an independent state, with its external affairs controlled by the protector country. Cambodia had a king and made "decisions" internally yet for all those decisions he still was asked to seek permission and council from senior french officials. Do a bit a reading. :)
@@CamboVlogs Are you validating what I basically typed earlier in your comment section but expanded just a tad more as to why and how Cambodia became a protectorate and aren’t antagonistic towards the French like how the Vietnamese are? If yes, do you want a cookie for reading and writing the simple definitions of protectorate and colony which I also read on the internet? Yes, I read those definitions also-what you wrote that is, almost exactly word by word. Anywho, Cochin-China or what the Khmers called Prey Nokor (translates to “Kingdom’s Garden” since a Kingdom’s Jungle cannot be the wilderness, but rather a garden since a Kingdom represents a man-made, tamed civilization) that is now present-day Vietnam but Cambodia for 4,000 years (just like how Istanbul was Greece’s Constantinople for 4,000 years) was in fact a French colony. The French were holding that territory as a colonial possession because of land dispute between Khmer and Vietnamese. The region of Cochin-China where the Mekong Delta is was the birthplace of Khmer civilization known in the Mediterranean world during antiquity as Cattigara (which I assume is “Chao-Attika” in Khmer meaning “Descendant of the Highest Tower), Suvarnabhumi (The Golden Sun Tree) by Indians and Funan (Southern Pair in Chinese implying a fraternal twin pair like me). 😇
@@CamboVlogs How am I contradicting myself? The French were welcomed by the Cambodians with clasping and shaking hands-which makes them a protectorate, whereas the French invaded Vietnam because the Vietnamese had and still have a tribal pagan mentality-which is to break down barriers all for the sake of inclusion. But like I mentioned earlier, Cochin-China, aka Prey Nokor aka present-day South Vietnam, was a hotbed between Khmer and Vietnamese in which the French made into a colonial Buffer Zone and capital. And yes, I’ll take the compliment. But I prefer to be seen and labeled as wise rather than smart considering that any descendant of lesser caste or tribal pagan from any part of the world today (who can now get a free education) will all grow up the same in a sense that they will develop a level of arrogance or delusion of grandeur that they are more smarter, more wiser, more civilized, and more superior in comparison to older generations, other countries, as well as real life descendants of royals and nobles. Don’t want to be labeled or grouped with such ratchet basic commoner way of thinking. You can call me the Trinity-born Wiseman, or the Cambodhi (Coming-Bodhi) fraternal twin aka the Divine Devil Devatta David Divider or simply the Segregator of Siamese (Same, Same) identical conjoint democratic twins. 🤣
well, i feel dumb reading all this. anyway, normal people "commoners" don't really care if the French are colonist or protectorate. i'm just glad they are allies. you ain't got to get all into deep, and technical about it. patrick is just being supportive for the cambodian people, so just let him be. we appreciate his love and support for cambodia.
