i fell off watching RT years back because they started hiring random uninteresting personalities who started taking center stage in all of the content and i got disinterested. i just liked the original RT crew and the original achievement hunter/lets play guys

biggest problem is that nearly all the original RT guys are gone and replaced with people no one cares about

Asmon is 100% right. S tier content keeps you alive. When they sold the company the content got noticeably worse. I loved achievement hunter, it was bro humor. You could relate to that, friends sh*ting on friends while horsing around on video games. Then it just turned into 6 people yelling into a mic commenting on what they were doing unrelated to what the others were doing. It felt stiff and boring and non interactive. Also some of the more recent cast in AH (Alfredo for example) were just terrible. I don't know how anyone can be more uninteresting than that guy

They did make themselves to be holier than thou. I remember Geoff's rant about how there needs to be a removal of white authors, so more black authors are seen. One of their higher ups was wanted for domestic violence. Fairly sure they ostracized one of their people just because he didn't follow the same politic views Oh and the time they told their fans that if you didn't absolutely love all their new content you weren't wanted Ryan Haywood... need I say more about him I personally stopped watching them after they dropped a VA over allegation with no evidence. At the same time of dropping, Roster Teeth had skeletons in their closet but that was fine. (Edit was to add a few extra things)

RT lost viewership because the content was no longer good. maybe a hot take, but for me personally, the people they put on camera in their last few years were just not funny or entertaining to watch in any way whatsoever. I've been a huge RT fan since RVB season 1 but man they really killed themselves with all the woke mentality and what I call, "diversity hires". I saw the end of RT coming because of this years ago.

I don't think I've ever been on the Rooster Teeth channel. I watched AH/Let's Play and around 2021 when Jack and Jeremy left and Gavin barely showed anymore is what I consider the death of it all for me. They brought in Ky, who I liked at no point ever which seems to be a common view of her, Joe, who wasn't a bad addition but definitely not main cast level, and BK, who was actually enjoyable and would have been a good addition if many of the other talents hadn't already left. It reminded me of the 8th season of a TV show where almost none of the original cast remains and it doesn't have the same magic/chemistry that it used to have. There are still those few originals left that are holding their own, but unable to stop the ship from sinking. That's just what happens after almost two decades I suppose.

On their recent stream, they tried to claim how saying they were shut down yesterday is "misinformation." Reason being they're not actually shut down but in a 60 day "shut down period." Like, what's the difference? Today, tomorrow, 60 days, the company is over. Trying to twist the narrative is one of many reasons they went down the shitter in the first place

I was not the earliest of early Rooster Teeth fans, but I do go back to 2007 when a kid told me about the "beating a guy to death with his own skull" joke at school. Drunk Tank was a fun podcast. I remember a big part of the early years of that podcast was them discussing Lost which was in its final seasons at the time. I kind of liked early Red versus Blue because I am a big Halo fan, but my favourite content of theirs were the shorts and podcasts they would put out when they had like 20 or so employees. I'm probably an archetype of the problem that Rooster Teeth ran in to. Even by the time Burnie Burns left, I had mostly lost interest. He was my favourite of the whole crew. I think Burnie is a top 5 funny nerd of all time. Maybe there was a woke element that drove a lot of folks away, but for me, I just grew out of it and got interested in other things. RIP to Rooster Teeth, their lasting legacy is pioneering direct funding from fans through their member program. This is a really big part of how online content functions now.

The thing that got me was that early on they felt like a group of friends that I was there enjoying games with. So I followed them all on social media and everything was great. Then one day the world turned upside down and suddenly all these people I idealized start posting incredibly radical woke statements. Around the same time those ideologies start to slowly infiltrate the videos themselves. I started to feel disconnected from them based on the things they were saying. Then the illusion was broken. They weren’t my friends. They hated people like me. They hated that I didn’t drink their koolaid. Then to top it all off they hated playing the games they were playing. The passion and enjoyment that I once felt a part of was long gone and now just a parody of its former self made to keep a paycheck coming in. That’s the day I decided to become one of those lost subscribers and I never looked back.

To me it just felt like around the 2016 mark they were starting to turn on their audience and started trying to "clean up" their content.

When he kept scrolling down to see what videos got good views it hit me that probably many people who watched Rooster Teeth really just kept watching their older content. Like for me I always go back to their old Minecraft Let's Plays just because they were peak at the time and they're still peak today.

Rooster Teeth was lucky that Warner Brothers has been dealing with more important nonsense over the last 4 years to avoid getting shut down. Zaslav finally heard about it finally in the last few months probably.

It seemed pretty obvious from the thumbnails what the difference was. They were getting numbers on RTAAs and videos that had the original cast, not great numbers by their own standards but respectable. You didn't even see a string of 200ks with the new cast.

Rt died when they started to become PC and go away from their OG sense of humor. They started to cater to advertisers and overwhelming political correctness.

I'm from a bygone era where people took risks. Including criminal ones. These are not algorithm friendly tales, but the handful of kids that find them are entertained

ill always be thankful for RT for giving me so many childhood memories. red vs blue was a show me and my brother would quote daily through middle school and highschool. being a kid i didnt know how companys worked and i thought it was just a group of friends doing cool stuff. But seeing the cracks in the company as an adult and how management treated people this news isnt surprising. So thank you rooster teeth wish all the best for the employees that just lost their job.

I never liked Rooster teeth. I liked the content creators involved because they made content. I just didn't like Rooster Teeth in general.

Forced diversity, politics and bad humor killed rooster teeth. It started 2020 and lots of people jumped ship. It went from friends and people who share the same humor to we need more diversity and no more humor that could/might trigger someone.

The only thing that carried RT was RWBY. And since the original founder man is dead, his incompetent team caused the series to go downhill.

Funhaus gradually got worse as Lawrence and Bruce left and then the Kovic drama, Alanah didn't stay long either And then it was just a bunch of people i still don't know the names of who just aren't entertaining James and Elise couldn't carry the show by themselves, James especially bounced off really well of Bruce and Adam. Ah well, they had a good run... And some memorable quotes. "We get it and that's it!"

I think the issue here is when you go from getting paid depending on the quality of your content to getting paid a salary based off your past accomplishments. This isn't limited to entertainment. Many will lose their drive when there isn't an incentive to excel. Personally I waited tables for years and loved the fact that I could have a direct impact on how much money I made every single shift I worked. A salary job admittedly made me do slightly more than the bare minimum and I hated it. Which in respects to Rooster Teeth is evident by the drastically reduced quality of content that came out every time they were passed around.

End of an absolute era, RVB was my teenhood, it's over the top whackiness, which i admittedly cringe a bit to now was irreplaceable at the time. Just shows that innovation is real and corporates really are delusional.

I was born in 93 and was in middle school around when RVB first came out. I grew up with RT. It was a big part of my formative years. But after all of the founders took a back seat and the podcast was hosted by the people whose entire personality is their sexual identity or skin colour thats when i called it quits.

Rooster Teeth died when core members were forced out, core members for content had to take leadership roles they should not have been placed in, and they started to hire for diversity instead of hire for good content.

Their biggest draw in RU-vid was achievement hunter. And ill say the day i stopped tuning into their yt channels was, for RT proper, when they stopped putting their shows on YT and had them exclusively on their website. And for AH it was when Ray left.

Prime examples of what Ludwig is trying to avoid would be what has happened with Hoonigan and Donut Media (yes, both are content creation businesses and not marketing like Off Brand is, but the business structure of all 3 matter)...with Hoonigan and Donut Media you had people who were killing themselves working long hours, coming up with creative ideas for videos, and generally giving everything they had to build this company up so that they could benefit from its eventual overwhelming success...and, unfortunately, not many of those people got anything once those companies got sold off to media conglomerates, so all of their hard work went towards someone else getting rich and now they have corporate beancounters telling them what content to make and which sponsors to work with...Ludwig making Off Brand a co-op means that anyone who puts their hard work into the company will benefit from it if it ever gets sold off...and prior to that point, everyone gets an equal say in how everything runs...

"That doesn't mean everything RT created is gone forever..." Anyone want to tell Ludwig who owned RT? And who also owned Machinima? Cause holy shit, the scramble on the RT reddit to start archiving all the content is a huge community push the likes of which I've not seen before. Also, Ludwig misses why the Fullscreen acquisition went through: To be able to distribute their first feature film, Lazer Team. RT tried to get too big, when they had the market cornered consistently when it came to the 25-35 demographic, when it came to online humor. The second they started to step out of their lane is when shit started to go bad. Bringing in younger personalities for all their content was a necessity due to older members wanting to settle down and move on, but it also kneecapped them - the younger crew didn't vibe with the old crew's humor, and as such, the fanbase didn't vibe with the younger crew. What used to be a naturally flowing stream of comedic discussion and organically occurring comedic moments slowly devolved into screaming to be the loudest in the video, forced improv/"yes and" that the older crew refused to latch onto because it was tiresome, and just a general "I'm the main character of the video" mentality from a lot of the newer staff. I think the biggest, clear-cut "It's dead, Jim" in terms of the company - not its controversies - was Geoff stepping down from AH/Lets Play, and Trevor taking over. Trevor is a nice dude, but his comedy chops are lacking severely. And not only that, but putting him in charge of the department and deciding on what made for "good content" when it came to maintaining their fanbase was a huge mistake. Especially now, at the end, seeing what they'd done so far with Dog Bark, their sketch "comedy" series that has roughly the same amount of views as their final Achievement Hunter vids, whilst Geoff and his guys over at F*ckface's new videos on the Lets Play channel have 3-4 times the viewcount. The biggest problem with maintaining their fanbase was that they went from a company with an evergreen fanbase that kept throwing views and cash at them for 21 years, and tried to muscle their way into a younger fanbase with new hires, instead of trying to find a middle ground of younger hires who meshed well with the existing group comedically, in almost all of their content. Everyone makes that mistake - Yes, your fanbase may be pretty stagnant, but if it's still profitable - which according to their CEO, it was in 2014 - then don't rock the boat. I knew people who consumed RT content weekly, with no lull, for over a decade until they started trying to change their content/bring in "fresh" talent. The second you alienate your existing fanbase, you run the risk of not being able to renew those numbers with every viewer who doesn't come back for the next week, or you fail to capture. Sometimes being stagnant is the profitable option, because you know exactly what to expect, and can scale around those numbers. On the topic of "You don't want G4 back, you want 2004 back" - Yes. And that's the problem. G4 failed because the G4 that they "revived" was not the G4 from those days. It was - at it's core - trying to appeal to a younger audience, when the folks who wanted G4 back were all in their 30's. They wanted shit like Attack of the Show and XPlay back, not random shows with a bunch of 20-somethings telling them they were shitty for being gamers, when the entire network was meant to cater to gamers and gaming media. The entire atmosphere of Nu-G4 felt so off, and completely unlike what it was in the old days - even if what it was in the old days eventually devolved into "Cops" and "Cheaters" re-runs.

After Red vs Blue and RWBY. All Rooter teeth's content afterwards was them trying to chase their previous success. Everything afterwards all felt manufactured and uninspired. When the cash influx slowed they focused on quantity over quality. They failed to understand why their own IP's were popular. They lost how to be themselves. It's sad.

Saying that if the roman Colosseum came back it would blow the hell up. Lol thats called projection, some people do care about morality.

Someone pointed this out in his Twitch comments, that Roman Colloseums weren't really doing death matches. It was more like WWE matches. Those fights were staged for entertainment.

I'm not an OG, I barely watched FH or AH, I was mostly into The Know and RWBY, I can't say I was all behind RoosterTeeth but the writing was on the wall around 2015-2016 with the company, it was becoming more corporate, some bad apples were outed and nothing was done, fans were treated more like paying costumers than actual fans (I remember the owner insult people who wouldn't or couldn't pay for its online streaming service) and them forcing diversity and LGBT on its stories instead of letting it happen organically + the pandering to fan service wasn't helping them either...

They fired Vic Mignogna. Ruined Monty's work by appealing to the toxic fandom. RT site was often said to not work along with having shitty service. Some staff were exposed for domestic abuse and predatory actions. The passionate OGs jumped ship seeing what the company was turning into.

Roosterteeth was a massive part of my teenage years, sadly for me after the Chorus trilogy in rvb it just kind of felt like it began to drift in directions that didn’t entertain me. Rvb felt like it didn’t know what it wanted to do, I never could get in to RWBY and I mean Let’s play and achievement hunter we’re things that if it popped up in my feed I’d watch it, but I mean as time went on I kind of just forgot about it

I never saw Geoff yearn for a bottle of shine when I saw a video him on a panel at a Minecon getting asked the "detotated wam" question. I get the feeling he drew the short straw of "attending Minecon and bearing little kids for the weekend" opportunity.

I bet they were impacted by Sony acquiring Crunchyroll in 2021 (and VRV, by extension), who then discontinued streaming deals with Rooster Teeth, which was probably responsible for a lot of content exposure for new audiences (particularly people who watch anime). Ultimately, I think they should have just been making movies, since the kind of content they were already making didn't require warehouses, and production teams. Internet videos that can be filmed with one camera and 2-3 people didn't need all of that.

It was a slow death, people leaving the company, new "talent" coming in who just didnt fit the compqny at all, multiple controversies in a short span of time either company wide or due to actions of individual members

After Season 13 of RvB... thats when it died. Completely agree, that when it started to become political it got real sour, and when was Season 13... 2015... what happened in 2016?!

Never heard of RT. But i was a Teen/young adult when Internet became a big thing in the late 90's.

I know why the views stopped, a certain ideology took root, one that doesn't allow for creativity, or offensive humor. An ideology that demands unwaivering devotion and unquestioning loyalty, Rooster Teeth died when the laughter died.

I stopped watching around the time of the Haywood scandal. Even before that, there were several people that left the company and basically said it was because their internal culture was a shit show, and they had already bled away many people who put them on the map in the first place. It started to become more and more faces no one recognized or cared about, and you kinda questioned the ones that still hung around when their reputation continued to plummet as people left and basically kept saying working there is terrible.

They only got like 20k views with 9 million subs 💀

You should talk to Stuttering Craig from ScrewAttack. He talked about how going corporate slowed down decision making with the bureaucracy swamp. He gave an example of a joke that went viral in the community and demand for merch of the joke. It took him 6 months of "approvals" process to get the damn shirt made at which point the fanbase no longer cared and it wasted money where it would have been huge profit margins had it been a 2 week turn around time like they used to have while independent. It's why he left years ago and started another company.
