This makes me immensely proud of my Jamaican heritage. We might not have lots of money but we’re rich in spirit and live for our families friends and communities
I grew up in Streatham, Tulse Hill, and my late nanny, Rita, was North African, and she did a similar thing selling North African stews with cous cous from her back garden. Most neighbours like it although some were a bit stuffy! I miss those days. Thank you for showing this place. Yummy 😋
@@hulaguhan13 I am not blind , when I see a black or brown person I know they are not white 🤣 You can’t say you are African when your origins are from Europe ! These are facts
@@hulaguhan13 what I want is why do not the natives of this country do such things for their own people ? Especially in the north of the country and outside big cities, we have English communities living in poverty ! For a kid to be able to go to a place and get a hot decent meal is worth more than anything ! Name me one English owned restaurant who gives out free food to kids ? 🤣
Jamaican food is my all time number 1 favourite. There is not enough of these places about. This is a precious hidden gem. May the lord bless this family and protect them always 🙏
Been saying this for ages just needs to stick to homegrown now bring attention to some good old english food with good old english people like the good old english days 🇬🇧 🇬🇧 🇬🇧
The “grass” in the rice which is the herb thyme cracked me up 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Glad you enjoyed your meal. Maximum respect to all at the lady in Brixton Kitchen for feeding our youth ❤ Stay blessed 🙏🏽
Great people. Great food. And instead of adding a 10% service charge - they give 10% back to the local kids with hot tasty filling food - couldn't be less than 10!
That's awesome what she provides for the community and I love Jamaican people, they're usually lovely folks. I knew some Yardies in the early 90s, were supposed to be these dangerous criminals when they were actually some of the nicest guys I've ever met. Solid 10 from me just for the fact she feeds the poor for free. 👍
Wow!!! I'm British Born and Bred but have Jamaican heritage... And even though I've been eating Jamaican food for YEARS!!! I am 100% jealous of this man right now!!! Because once you've eaten what he's eaten... That's it!!! It will be a part of your diet for the rest of your Life!!! ❤😋😜
You don’t have Jamaican heritage lol you’re English mate just sit down 😂 unless you mean your heritage comes from the slave owners as Jamaica was a slave market.
...... fantastic that they feed the school children too.A thriving community is so important to those less fortunate. The generosity and kindness of others, should always be acknowledged. What an uplifting vlog.
Before I never even considered to try Jamaican food I then went to a restaurant and was in HEAVEN...give it a try full of spices and herbs and done proper...
I’m going to give them a solid ten today Danny. Not only are they giving kids free food but it’s a very friendly place with lots of soul you could probably taste the passion. A community hub.
Hi Danny and Camerman, so happy you came to London, and had an amazing experience, I live in NW London, and cant wait to come and try this delicious looking food, and support someone, who is supporting their community.
That chicken looks spot on. If I was a kid I'd be there every day, heck even as an adult and if I lived local I'd be visiting this place as much as I could. Crazy to see someone doing this out of their own home and being able to do free school meals, I hope nothing but the best for Maureens!
Absolutely love this. It's so much better than any old takeaway on the high street. Well done Danny highlighting these amazing people and the food looks fantastic too.
I'm from a Guyanese family and my nan cooks some mean dishes from the Caribbean. When cooked right it is delicious yet humble at the same time. Fresh, homemade food is always better and this family is a prime example.
My Dad did dumplings for our breakfasts, but he called them Jonnie cakes with corn beef and baked beans fritters 😃loved his food eh. Mum was English and did the roast dinners Dad, was Jamaica and did the curry goat rice n peas Bliss ❤❤❤❤❤
My dad was bajan and my mum English. He taught her to cook Caribbean food and like you we had both cultures on our plates. My dad made the dumplings which he called "rubbers" and corned beef cakes.Give me a plate of rice and gungo peas swimming in spicy gravy and I'm happy.
People feeding kids deserve every success i hope they keep succeeding. Prices seem pretty fair large £15 the northerners wouldn't approve but I'm in east Anglia and that seems pretty fair to me. Plus if it's helping subsidise free meals for kids then it's a win win for me. I assume it's London anyway which isn't exactly cheap.
Same here in Yorkshire and many other great places to go in the North. Just another ten bob snob making ignorant assumptions about areas just happen to be a few miles north in the same tiny country they live and that they've probably never been to. And they wonder why we often think they're t***s
Wales ,Scotland and Ireland are the only places with real British people left liv8ng there,Brixton has only african,Jamaican and turkish living there, fukc england
Going here later, can't wait Well just eaten from there, I got brownstew chicken, rice and peas, plantain and shared a macaroni cheese with my boyfriend. Rice and peas were lovely, brownstew chicken had quite a few bones, plantain and macaroni cheese were delicious. Will get the fried chicken next time.
Maureen's kitchen looks like a great place to try authentic Jamaican food. Also it's nice to see them helping the community.i wish them a successful future.
I'll tell you this Danny, we love our Jamaican food here in FL USA, that's amazing stuff, the flavor of a good coconut rice and some jerked chicken. And those Jamaicans (or any Carib really) they are so home-made about everything they do, you can taste the love. It'll 'stick to the ribs' as they say!
The free school meal is genius idea, probably a little portion of a rice based dish,. Not to much costwise.. however this sort of gesture is a great advert for the business and i imagine the community get behind them as a result
What a fantastic looking meal and to eat it in such a brilliant surround is just awesome. Talking about awesome, I salute everyone involved here, what they are doing for the young lads and lasses is just gobsmacking. Absolute respect.
Hey Danny, wow you've reached my ends Right on my doorstep. Sooo excited to see family roads, foods and faces that I know. Third time this week going to Maureens without actually going to Maureens. Happy Dayzz 🎉🙌🏾
Proper home made community food also a place for the youth to get a free meal > full circle initiative councils take note time to support in a creative way
I bet everybody goes there from local areas food looked incredible, cool vibe and the kids getting meals is just bless.. never seen bananas cooked like that they looked delicious
This was world class service for a Jamaican place lol actually very polite. But like all Jamaican and African places, there's always something missing from the menu they don't have 😁
One of your best, shows that caring is sharing. Food looked excellent. This fAmily I hope carryon doing what there doing for a long time to come.🙏🏼😜👏❤️👍
I used to have a Nigerian family live on the same street as me when I was a kid, they used to bring round plantains and I loved them. Not tasted them ever since.
