1/4 of the way through the year already and March has been quite the emotional rollercoaster on eBay. It's almost common knowledge that something is going on behind the scenes, limiting many sellers' outputs, myself included, for reasons which remain unclear. That being said, I've had a reasonable number of sales, some good, some not so. Let me recap the month and some tweaks I've been making to my own reselling habits.

I agree that March was awful. Worse sales I’ve had in 12 months. And like you I looked to clear stock that was hanging around on my store, which added unit sales but not much £’s.

Good video Chris, I find it helpful to learn about stuff that doesn't sell as well as what to look out for. Can I ask what's been your experience with Zara for reselling, is it worth picking up if cheap enough or is it another brand that's expensive to buy new like Ted Bakern but doesn't seem to have much resale popularity?

Thanks! I can appreciate they’re not the most exciting videos, but I hope they prove useful when it comes to actually selling items. Honestly, I’ve never bothered with Zara. It seems to litter every Oxfam and British Red Cross in bulk, so if the shops can’t shift it new, and the charity shops are swamped with it then I’d say the supply massively outweighs the demand.

That is good to know Chris as it confirms my reality selling in feb and march. Very frustrating, can I add to other factors that is impacting selling on eBay , temu china’s eBay is bringing serious competition based on cost. Also very hard to figure out what to promote and what not to promote. Thoughts about promotion strategies would be welcome. Thx

Promoted listings seem to be a bit of an enigma to be honest. I only promote at 2-3% whilst some people follow eBay’s guidelines which often seem woefully overinflated. Honestly, I don’t think they make a whole lot of difference, unless you’re competing against a lot of similar items. I’ve heard people have decent sell through rates not using them at all so who knows how effective they actually are!

I only use Vinted to find stock which will increase my listings or let me continue to list daily. I agree the profits arn't there though unless you get lucky 1-10 pairs if that i'll make decent profit. I find charity shops for me are ridiculous at the moment. Not sure whats going on but they are over pricing stuff completely. I went away for a weekend and went to a few charity shops, found a pair of Salomon Ski boots and they wanted £45 for them! eBay sales are below that in better condition. Clothing as well, soon as they see Ralph Lauren or something they price it at like £15 just because they know that brand. Charity shops are naff right now. Unless you have decent amount of charity shops near you and you might get a few items.

My local town is mostly hopeless for sourcing from charity shops and I’m fortunate to be able to travel around the county for work, popping into the odd few on my lunch break. But yes, I can completely understand using Vinted to source, just to feed the eBay beast, even if the eventual profit margins aren’t all that.

@@Planet_Passey I’m a complete noob when it comes to car boots as well, went to my first one on the weekend when I was away, it’s meant to be such a good car boot. But my luck we get hit with the storm so it was ruined. But hoping to get to one this weekend but by the way the weathers been lately it’l be raining and cancelled 🙈 Also going to go further afield and try new charity shops and hopefully come up with a weekend round plan of which charity shops to hit each weekend 👌 worked out I can hit about 15 charity shops if I start early if not more. But got to be careful i’m not spending more on fuel etc just to source a few items which don’t give much profit 🙈

I have the same issues with Adidas, often slow to sell and never for what I think they should go for. People have said it's down to adidas having an outlet store on ebay.

You and me both then, they are very disappointing on the whole and when a pair does sell well and quickly (like these), it just makes me think they were a fluke. 😂

Clothes is just a flooded category, it's only going to get worse with their new announcement on private sellers
