Definitely gonna grab this for my gh5/gh6. Being rectilinear and this wide for this price is a no brainer. Mainly gonna use it for the front angle of recording drum videos since my drum set is pretty big, I have their 50mm 1.2 which I enjoy, being able to use a filter is ideal also.
How does it handle flare? And is it ok for astro? I have the Samyang 12mm just for astro because flare is a bit too annoying and has a slight green colour cast sometimes. I am looking for a replacement for both day and night.
There are some interesting looking flares. I haven't shot this during the daylight because it's been grey. But for hte most part it's not bad. I think there are a few shots i shared that has that red curvy line from the light
I've been itching for a new super-wide that resolves the X-T5's 40MP. Have you tried the Sigma 10-18mm yet? That's currently what I'm considering, but this lens looks really nice, too!
I own the 10-18 and X-T5. It’s staying in my bag, but will likely be used on lower MP sensors. Here are the highlights: Small and compact, useful range and perfect for walking around a new destination, sharp in center from 2.8 across all focal lengths. CA can be a problem in the corners when you pixel peep, it doesn’t get sharp in the corners outside of 14mm. Lack of IBIS is unfortunate. Overall, it’s a fun lens for walking around and it produces very usable photos if you aren’t pixel peeping to death. If you’re going to produce super wide landscape photos, buy a prime lens at your preferred focal length(s). I use the Viltrox 13 if I want clinical performance. Overall, YMMV.
@@awake780 Thanks for your feedback! I've got the Viltrox 13 (and the 27 f/1.2, as well!) and I'm really enjoying it! ...but something in me is still itching for a 10mm-ish focal length to get E V E N W I D E R 😅
@@FiZ this lens could potentially do that for you on a budget. If you haven’t seen Christopher’s review on this lens, I recommend checking out it. The likelihood that it resolves 40 MP well is pretty low. If you want the highest possible build and image quality, also consider the Laowa 9mm f/2.8. At the end of the day, it will depend on your needs and image quality acceptance criteria. The benefit with these primes is low distortion. The Sigma is extremely distorted at the wide end.
looks like a great lens for video since clinical sharpness is much less needed and af is pretty much irrelevant since most of your frame is in focus after stoping down a bit.
I am thinking of buying one for my webcam use case and rare astro photos. I don't use ultrawide a lot so i want to get something cheap. I was thinking viltrox 13mm but i am worried i will never use it
@@Iamtongue the gas is real and am glad its just 150 bucks Lol Btw what are your thoughts on buying a pancake or the small fuji prime like 35mm f2 as an edc lens when i already have a 18-50 f2.8 sigma zoom lens, is this gas or valid ?
@@cyano3d haha man you’re talking to a guy with so much GAS. Life’s too short to not get the things you want. And if you don’t like it you can always resell it. That’s my philosophy.
looks cool, but manual focus only is a big no for me, I use the manual focus very often and specially in landscape photography which this lens is specially intended for, but if I have to capture an animal or even take pictures of my girl with a relativity speed on the process, the auto focus is really helpful and a must for me
