It does depend on experience, care and the timber. I used to work at firewood processing up until lately and found that in some types of timber, the knotty pieces can fly. One free hand to save your head or chest can save a life. But for the average joe, leaving the safety features is a better option.

You've got to love it! Your 150 hp $200k log splitter beats it all, and a 2nd tractor to haul it. One usually starts with a cheap usually free, wood stove to save heating costs, well maybe create a cosy mood. Then a chain saw and the clothing. Now one needs a cheap pickup truck to haul the timber. Then comes the winch to drag out this cheap source of heat from the woods, most of the trees are in swampy areas and only when the ground freezes can you get in there. Cable too short, a cheap tractor to drag out the logs is needed. The wood lot is too far from the house to drive the tractor so a trailer is needed to haul the tractor, but it can also carry logs, good idea. You now have 8foot logs piled 4feet high and 50-100 feet along your fence line, neighbours complain to the local authorities. Get it out of sight you are told. Right, cut the logs into average stove lengths, 16-24" stove dependent, and split and stack them. where? No problem, apply for a building permit and build a wood shed or why not, a future garage. Splitting is such a chore, our logs are much bigger and so many more of them than yours that we need not only a wood splitter but why not get a wood processor for just a few thousand dollars more, then, firewood could be sold from the end of the driveway. You can see how far this can continue to go on. I haven't seen any large rows of logs at your beautiful place, nor have I seen a firewood for sale sign at your farm gate. My hat's off to you, you are ahead of the game, well done. I hear that there is money to be made in wood pellets, will your splitter also press out pellets?

What's the litres per min flow on your tractor, and the tonnage rating on the ram please, looks a ni e machine, vertical log splitters with a table so much better than picking stuff off the floor. Now you just need to build a rack to cut your small round wood in. I use a ms261 with a 16 inch bar and cut 10-12 pieces of small round wood 5ft in length in one hit, 6 cuts gives you 70 pieces of firewood and your not bending down.

I love that bin! There is another handy product, you probably wont need it since you cut your logs so short. Its called Woodcutters helper, its a magnet with a fiber rod to attach to the chainsaw blade it helps you getting the same length on every cut. If you google woodcutters helper it should come up on the first links from ebay a little costly in my opinion might be you could use one of those telescopic magnets mechanics use to pick up screws instead im not sure at least they are under half the price.

@IFarmWeFarm
@IFarmWeFarm 3 года назад
It kinda something you need to actually use to see how easy it really is, yes them bigger logs all pop and fly, but if you position the logs a certain way it only flys out to the sides. Important rule to protect the tool 😜

Mechanic told me to do it years ago, I put one on for my tractors for log splitter, road sweeper n hedgecutter.
