This London café owner gives homeless sleepers a second shot at life

23 year old Julius Ibrahim is an entrepreneur with a passion for good coffee and tackling homelessness. He dropped out of University to set up a unique café in in east London where he trains and employs homeless people as baristas. One of these is ‘Edge’ who had been sleeping rough for 3 years before Julius helped him turn his life around.

This is incredible. I'd love to know how he managed to set up a coffee shop at 23 years old, that's my dream! I'll definitely pay Second Shot a visit next time I'm in the area. What a fantastic story :)

If I was to do this there would be a bathroom in the back with a shower, free toiletries, and a washer/dryer for the homeless employees to use before their shifts and I would supply a free uniform for them to wear so that if they only owned 1 outfit that they could wash it while they were working and have a clean, non biased uniform to wear so people wouldn't judge them on their attire. This is an amazing man with a even greater idea for a business. :)

I always swing by, when I happen tto be in London (not as often as I'd like). I am glad to say that the board with donated meals and coffee is usually full, and when it isn't, it takes little effort to add a thing or two to it.

William Jean I may have missed it but I honestly don't recall anyone mentioning God in the video so why are you? These are people helping people. That's a good thing in itself. Celebrate it for the kind act it actually is, not what you want it to be. Julius said he believes that people are intrinsically good given the opportunity to show it. Therefore if anything, I would argue that he has faith in people and their capacity for change with help.
