In many ways, the village of Fenton is like other small towns in Louisiana. But it’s remarkable in one way: It collected more money in a single year through fines and forfeitures than almost any other municipality in the state, according to audits.

Then a Federal Court needs to bankrupt Fenton, Louisiana by ordering refunds and punitive damages against the town. In the meantime, the locals need to spread the word and completely avoid the city so that they don’t have anyone to pull over. This is a pipsqueak little nothing town that the people around them could deal with 100% legally all on their own.

The same thing happened to me in Ferriday about 15 years ago. I went back to contest the ticket because there was evidence that there was a collection racket between police employees and the mayor's office.. I was told that the ticket would stand and I would have to pay for it and that the evidence I provided was irrelevant. I immediately went to the district attorney's office at the parish seat and filed a complaint with the sheriff. They informed me that there was an investigation out by the FBI and the mayor was eventually arrested for voter fraud and the whole Police department was ultimately fired from Ferriday after the investigation.

These violations should be presented to the Louisiana Supreme Court and the US Supreme Court. They are violating a Supreme Court Order. The Supreme Court can have U.S. Marshall's pick up this Mayor and shut this down immediately. Anyone who has been given a ticket or paid a ticket can file with the US Department of Justice Civil Rights Division for a referral to the FBI for criminal and or Federal Civil Rights deprivation of rights. The Governor of LA. Should immediately suspend or remove the Mayor from Office. Just telling it like it is. The Mayor has a vested interest in each case which is a ethical violation and makes each have a fundamental flaw by the vested interest and influence of such. Criminal Mayor... come on man

There is a better way to beat Any traffic ticket WITHOUT going to court. Within 72 hrs of getting ticket, send the ticket to the “Court clerk” with a “Notice” letter that says this. Dear Clerk of Court (or Whomever is the designated Receiver) I am returning this ticket Receipt. There has been a Mistake. I was not given the original wet-ink signature copy by the patrolman and have nothing to base payment on as a result. Please remit the wet-ink signature copy at your earliest convenience. Sincerely , __________________ Do NOT fill out the ticket Or write anything on the ticket copy. 95% of the time you will not hear back from the court. The reason is the Town monetized the ticket and made a bond from it. They don’t have the original. And by law ( Fair Debt Act ) you must have the original in order to pay. So what usually happens is you go to court a few weeks later and then the judge fines you guilty and you pay the fine. So the Town is double dipping. Now if you do hear back from the town asking you to come into court than send another letter like this. 2ND NOTICE Notice to Agent is Notice to Principal , Notice to Principal is Notice to Agent Town Court 123 ( Street name ) city , state , zip Dear Clerk of Court (or Whomever is the designated Receiver) I am returning this ticket Receipt. There has been a mistake. I was not given the original wet-ink signature copy by the patrolman and have nothing to base payment on as a result. Please remit the original wet ink signature copy at your earliest convenience. I DO NOT CONSENT TO ANY PROCEEDINGS. I did NOT make ANY Pleadings by mail. I have NO contract with the court. Please follow due process of the law. The court clerk can be held accountable for Failure to do their Fiduciary Duty. Research “The Fair Debt Act “. Please remit the original wet - Ink signature copy at your earliest convenience. Send it to me by certified mail ,return receipt requested. Sincerely , ______________ I did this with 4 tickets from the same town. 2 tickets in 2020 and 2 in 2022 I got pulled over by the same cop and he remembered me. The first 2 tickets were no insurance and switched plates. This was during covid and DMV was not open and could not get tags. The 2022 tickets were no valid inspection and false inspection sticker. I was taking the car to the junk yard. But anyways I do not condone breaking traffic laws like speeding , running redlights , stopped signs ect…. I learned this info from a Female Judge in Alaska . This is how to fight back Share this info with everyone. How to beat any traffic ticket WITHOUT going to court. I have done this myself with 4 tickets. If Everyone did this then the towns and courts would loose a lot of money and go out of business. This is one way to take back America from the corrupt police and towns and court system that is rigged against the citizen. Dont let them extort money from you ever again.

I had my experience with this in Addis Louisiana back @ 1998. Cop juiced me with a bogus speeding ticket. Went to court and it’s the mayor presiding. Told me the only way I could dispute the ticket was to challenge the validity of the radar and in his words “there is no way you can do that!” He did change it to a non-moving offense and I paid $70 and rolled. I’m leery of Addis cops to this day.

Someone needs to contact the Institute for Justice, to take on this case! Go after the Ohio ones too. My husband got a ticket for going 35, in a 25(in a small town speed trap). As soon as we saw the speed limit sign, he started slowing down. But it was too late. We went back and checked, and there was no speed limit sign, until you turn on the road, and drive a mile! That's the sign we saw and he tried to slow down. He went to Mayor's court, and was told if he contested it, he would likely still be found guilty and he would have fines and fees (before my husband even said a word)! He asked if he could just tell him what happened. So he let him. The mayor called an officer and asked if there was a speed limit sign closer than 1 mile down the road, right where they wait, and the officer said there was one! My husband pleaded no contest, paid a fine, and went to double check. He saw there was no sign and was so angry, he went back to mayor's court and told the mayor his officer lied to him! Of course there was no refund, or apology. A couple months later, we drove that route, turned on that road, and immediately saw a speed limit sign! We figured my husband paid for the sign!!! BUT.......a year later, we saw the sign was GONE! They likely saw a reduced income from speed trap tickets, and took the sign down! A mayor as a judge is going to do whatever the officer wants, since he has no idea what the law is. Hence those notes on tickets about not giving any breaks! To me, that's retaliation!

We had a similar scam going on in a town SW of Jacksonville. The hamlet of Hampton was illegally ticketing vehicles on State Hwy 301, outside of their jurisdiction. Hampton, rightfully so, earned the moniker of "The Most Corrupt Town in America" due to not only the speed trap they were operating, but also the drug dealing and gross misuse of the funds they were stealing from drivers. At one time, they had 19 cops. Which doesn't seem high until you realize they only have 477 residents! The cops were ticketing a lot of tourists because who wants to travel back from out of state to challenge a ticket? Problem was, the town boundary doesn't encompass any part of Hwy 301...so they had no business writing tickets there. Only the Bradford County Sheriff and FHP have jurisdiction. Then there was the drug dealing by the Mayor and his buddies, along with missing municipal funds of up to a million dollars! The state almost dissolved the city's charter, but held off due to the police force being disbanded and the town officials being arrested.

No dice. While ALL states agreed to the Constitution, and the Constitution does require the government to provide trial by jury; NO state applies this constitutional standard to traffic court, and thus far no court has found the courts in violation of the constitution for denying all people this basic constitutional right. In order to challenge these kangaroo courts, you would need to remove ALL kangaroo courts, which means all traffic courts across the nation. Incidentally; NO judge is required to have legal degrees. Not even the Supreme court of the United States.

I remember seeing the same thing in a little town in Texas. I think the town name was coffee. They had 50 cops for a town about the size and population of Fenton. The cops were all cops who were either fired elsewhere or had serious violations on their record. What happened was the whole police department including their sheriff was fired and disbanded. The town was getting a very large revenue stream from writing tickets. Fenton is doing the same thing. While the cops there might seem un the up and up, but most likely not. They clearly know that the M.O. is tickets, tickets and even more tickets. It is their bread and butter.

I’m a cop and I’d be miserable if I lived in a town or even a neighborhood that was only cops. It’d be like that SpongeBob episode where Squidward moves to the town that is only inhabited by other Squidwards. It’s supposed to be like 1 officer per hundred residents at most. Any more and it’s complete overkill.

Here in Oregon, we have City Municipal Courts. The judge's salary and court operations are funded by the city collection of photo radar citation fines. The judge decides your guilt, orders you to pay the fine, which goes to the city, which then pays the judge's salary. Hmmm, no conflict of interest there. The City of Medford in southern Oregon collected 2.3 million dollars in fines in 2022! 🤬
@user-oy4qp9pq6i

In one small city in southern Oregon, the municipal court judge is a pro tem, an area attorney on contract to the city. The city also has retainers with many law firms in the area so any law firms with a practice that might go against the city is provided a small retainer to create a conflict. We could not find a firm without a conflict in the southern 2/3 of the state.

Make the town pay every "victim" back with interest. Since the police initiated the funding scheme by writing tickets, redirect police funding (cut police salaries) to refund the citizens. Divert any "compensation" for the Mayor into the fund used to refund the victims. Furthermore, based on the words spoken by the Mayor/Judge, he needs to be pulled from any civil service everywhere.

In 2014, same thing happened in Gretna traffic court. I tried to contest a ticket and was shut down by the judge without an opportunity to explain my situation. Mine was for no brake tag after replacing windshield. I had receipts and got the brake tag that day. Judge didn't care. $250 ticket and I was unemployed. I heard Gretna is known for ticket traps and lack of empathy. As a result, ten years later, I avoid Gretna. I spend zero dollars in that city, I drive under the speed limit through it and refuse to spend a penny within Gretna city limits.

The Ohio General Assembly actually passed a law that allows for dissolution of villages that exist only to write tickets because Mayors Court was being abused. There was an infamous village just outside Columbus called New Rome that occupied a three block stretch of US-40 where the speed limit dropped to 25 and they had a massive police department. The area is now unincorporated and patrolled by the SO.
