So sorry! In 2018 I lost 2 very close cousins, my wife, a wonderful aunt and my mother in the first seven months. My mom passed on my birthday. I feel you brother!! I believe every hard-core Pink Floyd fan has at least one song that hits them right in their heart and soul.

I feel bereft sometimes, and there are days when I can't even function. Pink Floyd makes me feel better. I listen to Dark Side of the Moon when life gets me down. I can empathise with your feeling of loss for your Mum, and although it is now many years since my own Mother passed, - it was perhaps the most difficult thing I have ever been through. All I can say, if it helps at all, - is that the love you shared with your Mother NEVER diminishes, - it NEVER goes away, and in time I am sure you will look back with joy for the time you had together. If you are like me, then of course you will ALWAYS miss her, but I promise you that it becomes easier to deal with in time. That you allowed us to share this intimate time with you is testament to the fact that you are a good and loving man, & I am sure your Mother was proud of you, as you should be proud of yourself. I am approaching 70 years of age now, and David 's soulful and masterful performances still move as much now as they did when I was in my teens. This song has something in it for anyone who knows loss. For Pink Floyd was the loss of their former band mate Syd Barret, to LSD abuse and the consequential mental illness. The most beautiful ode to a lost loved one. Its ok to cry mate.

As I type this, my own mom is hospitalized and her fate is uncertain, and I haven't allowed myself a breakdown in an effort to put on a brave face and help keep her spirits as high as possible. This, you, allowed me to crack that facade and release some of the pressure in private, so when I say "thank you", I hope you understand just how sincerely I mean it. Condolences from the bottom of my heart. Pink Floyd is good therapy for many kinds of trauma, and if you keep exploring, no doubt they'll be your friend for years to come.

I get you buddy. I lost my sister Carolyn June of 2014 after she broke her neck falling down a flight of stairs. My mom Oct 5th of 2015 due to a stoke. My brother Doug, Christmas Eve 2015, and my brother Karl July 2017 due to cancer. Songs like this one bring them back. Not due to loss, but a warm hug I need at the moment. Thousands of people if not hundreds of thousands of people over the years have played this song at their funerals! It's meant to remind people of the absence of someone and that's what it was written about! Another song off the "wish you were here" album "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" was written for original band member "Syd Barrett": who had to be let go from the band because of his mental issues that were tearing the band apart. They loved him and never abandoned him so it wasn't as sad as it could have been! But this particular song "Wish You Were Here" the lyrics were written by Rodger Waters who said it doesn't necessarily point toward one person but instead represents absence or loss and you can take that anyway you want because this is art and that's what art does!! You're not the first one who had tears because of this song because it made you remember someone and you won't be the last! Great reaction because that's what it's meant to do!

Don’t ever be hesitant to show the fact that you loved him never goes away. I lost years ago. I miss her every day at Bond is like no other and you’re right. David Gilmour is a blessing and a decent human being who has gifted millions from the sales of his guitars to charity. I hope he does perform live one day, but the keyboard is now passed, so the original members can no longer perform together.

Don't know you and you don't know me but all humans are the same. We all have someone we wish was with us, but that's not how life works. Be thankful for your good memories with your mom. Remember that she's with you every day for the rest of your life in the form of those memories and the person you turned out to be. This song is so simple but it touches everyone in a deep place.
