One detail of Alastor’s character I absolutely adore, is how he’s one of the few characters in this show who doesn’t swear. I don’t mean that as some holier than thou mentality, (to be fair I swear a lot), but presumably he was a talk show host in his lifetime, and so because of that, he had to be wary of saying crude stuff or swearing on air, a trait he’s carried on into the afterlife. Despite how demented Alastor is, and his threats of violence, not once in the pilot does he curse. 😌. Unless you consider the part in his song when he rhymes “Hell” with tell.

The look Vaggie gives her when she says "try to relax, Vaggie" says she considers Charlie to be the best thing that's ever happened to her, and well worth going to Hell for.

I still can't believe that this Pilot came out over FOUR YEARS AGO, and the full show is finally releasing this upcoming year. Hopefully all that time it had to cook in the oven will pay off.

As many people have pointed out, this is the pilot and Hazbin Hotel proper is due to air some time next year. There have been some changes, namely in the cast and character design, but obviously the full extent of the changes remains to be seen. As for the established lore? This takes place in the same universe as Helluva Boss, and there's bits of world-building present in both shows, as well as some tidbits from streams ViziePop and the cast did over the years while working on Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss. A few key details revealed is that there are two kinds of 'demons' in this setting; Sinners, i.e. the souls of dead humans who are consigned to Hell for not meeting Heaven's exacting standards of spiritual purity, as well as Hellborn(unofficial term, but let's roll with it), who are the native denizens of Hell that we would generally associate with the concept of demons, such as imps, succubi and incubi, hellhounds, and various other miscellaneous types of Hellborn. Lucifer, the fallen angel and the first Sinner, reigns supreme over Hell, and Charlie is of course his daughter by his wife Lilith, who is a human Sinner, whilst Charlie herself is a Hellborn. Sinners are, for all intents and purposes, immortal and can only be killed by angelic weaponry(hence why there are angels carrying out the extermination to curb overpopulation in Hell). Most Hellborn aren't immortal and they can even die of old age, but they aren't human either and can handle a cartoonish amount of punishment before dying. ViziePop has also stated on a few occasions that things like homosexuality, being transgender or transsexual is not considered a sin in this setting and that Sinners are sent to Hell for other reasons, and while those reasons can be incredibly inane and trivial(Charlie's song implies porn addiction is a sin worthy of getting sent to Hell after all), most of the people in Hell are murderers, rapists, and things that are unambiguously immoral and unethical. We don't know what most of the characters did to earn a ticket to Hell, but we DO know what Alastor did to get sent to Hell, and while I won't spoil anything in that regard, Alastor DEFINITELY deserves to be in Hell and he's generally accepted to be one of the most evil characters in Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss, even if he's the likeable kind of evil where he has class and standards instead of just being a dick.

i know he literally blows up in the pilot episode, but any character voiced by Stamper is immediately an S Tier for me. S Tier here having the meaning of SSSSSSSSSSSSNAKE

It's my personal belief that anytime someone is putting together a RU-vid animated series now, Michael Kovach just appears from the void to voice a character.

Hazbin Hotel is great and it's the only few you can react fully to without worries. Do Lackadaisy next you will love it. Faye Mata who voices Katie Killjoy also voiced Myne from Rising of the Shield Hero.

A little info, Alistor was supposedly a serial killer and radio broadcaster in life that was shot by a hunter who thought he was a deer when disposing a victim. That's why his hair looks like a deer's ears and the radio static...also he died in 1933 so that's why he talks that way. Oh, and Charlie and Lucifer's last name is a play off Lucifer's meaning, that being "The Bright One" or "The Morning Star"

Hazbin Hotel is getting an series later this year, which is good for them! They've worked really hard to make it a reality. Of course, I am gonna have to suggest you also watch Helluvaboss which is the main show Vizipop has been making that is set in the same hell as Hazbin Hotel and four imps, the lowest rank of native demons in hell, as they run a assassination/protection buisness. It's very similar in humor but there is a lot of emphasis on characters as well, one of the main one is voiced by Richard Steven Horvtiz who you main know as the guy who voiced Invader Zim, Billy from the Grim Adventures, and Dagget from Angry Beavers.

It's oddly refreshing to see a positive reaction to this pilot in 2023 after years of witnessing it recieve endless and often unfair hate, whether due to its fans, the amount of swearing and adult humor, or Vivzie herself. As an animation fanatic who hopes to work in the field one day, regardless of how I feel towards its characters or writing I can't deny the obvious and admirable amount of love that went into this; In my opinion it and Helluva Boss for sure marked a new era in indie animation

It is funny that despite her passive nature, she is 2nd only to her mother and father in actual strength. Those goat demons that help her are supposed to be guards, and are supposed to react to threats, but Katey isn't even considered a threat in her's or Charlie's eyes. As she was singing she was warping reality for it lmao.

One thing I love about Alastor is his twisted moral code. He is a cannibal, possibly even a voodoo practitioner, and sees nothing wrong with butchering those that annoy him. At the same time, he seems to have a soft spot for women, especially those that are not among the more powerful demons. Dunno how he feels about children, though it might depend on how they act...

Actual show is finally coming out next year. Its also worth checking out Helluva Boss, another show she made set in the same universe but that one has a few seasons. Also fun fact, if you scroll back to the first news into and read the breaking news banner scrolling along the bottom... its pretty fucking wild.

I used to work at a gas station near our local news station. I’d see the hosts from the news from time to time and the only way I could properly describe them was tired. They kept up their happy persona in public but you could see how being anchors where wearing them down

Alastor is pretty much the Emperor of Chaos and Madness heck the guy was a serial killer back in the Roaring 20’s and worked as a Radio Host as an alibi……YES I know his lore because I was interested in the lore of this franchise. He’s one of my absolute favorite characters in Hazbin Hotel and knowing we’re going to see this LIVE on our TV Screens I can’t wait to see even more backstory for this psychopathic Deer Demon!!!

I think cleaning has little to do with gender roles or patriarchy, it’s common and hygienic sense to keep a place clean. Every parent tells their kid to clean their room and help tidy the house regardless if you’re a male or female. I know I wouldn’t wanna live with a slob.

I love Angel Dust, he and Charlie are my favorite characters. I so cant wait for the actual episodes in January! Crazy thing is that as powerful as Alastor (the Radio Demon) is it's been confirmed that Charlie is even more powerful than him. She's just too good and nice to use her powers aggressively. Thats why she can also manipulate her surroundings. Her musical number really came across that way. (You can see the cloud scene on Loona's computer in ep 1 of Helluva Boss) As the power lineup goes Charlie is in 3rd place. Right behind Lucifer (who is the fallen angel and a different entity than Satan) and Lilith. Following Charlie there are the 7 Deadly Sins, who you can learn about through Helluva Boss, and which Lucifer is the leader of. Then there are the Princes/Royalty of Hell, the Goetia. To whom Stolas belongs. It seems they run the more day to day aspects of the Rings. Then, below them are the Overlords. Alastor and Valentino are a part of this set. Normal Sinners but those who have gained enough power or influence to set themselves apart. Then the normal Sinners like Angel Dust, Cherri Bomb, and Vaggie are your run of the mill citizens of Hell. They are subject to a yearly purge where Heaven's extermination angels come down to extinguish as many as possible. The lowest class/power level are the Hellhounds, Leviathan, and Imps like Blitz, M&M, and Loona. Okay, hope that clears a bit of hierarchy and power lore for you. I didn't wanna bore you with too much detail. Lol PS: I love your avatar ❤️

Oh my god I have to watch the rest. All of the characters are just so lovable in their own ways. And the concept is pretty genius to be honest. I don't think that I've seen a plot like that ever and the musical score is incredible. For me that was a 10/10 pilot episode.

So to be clear, Charlie is the daughter of Lucifer, king of hell and sin of pride, with her mother being Lillith the first demon. All sinners are in the pride ring and cannot leave. Charlie is bisexual and in a relationship with Vaggie whose lesbian, Angel Dust is gay, Husker is pan if I remember, Niffty is straight, and Alastor is AroAce. The hierarchy goes: * Hellborn species, which is self explanationatory though there are still differences in how some species are treated, Imps and Hellhounds being at the bottom * Sinners, and as the name implies, these are all humans that get sent here for punishment * Overlords, these are powerful demons, Alastor is an overlord but theres also people like Valentino (the leader of a "corn" industry and pimp), Vox (the TV guy), and a bunch of others. * Ars Goetia, these are bird like high class royal demons that teach astrology and botany, of which there are 92 * The 7 deadly sins, who, besides Lucifer, are all of equal power in status * Charlie and her mother Lillith * And at the top, Lucifer, Lord of hell

The main problem with the deal Charlie struck is that Alastor can work in the hotel "for as long as HE desires". She technically cannot kick him out.

13:36 thank you, this is something that bothered me, a lot of people gave this pilot a lot of flak when it first came out because everyone was so mean and the insults used, like, this is hell, it's not exactly a place where good people end's up at.

Feet pics, ugh. Storytime. My foot was crushed in an accident decades ago. Dozens of fractures, every bone broken multiple times, ugly stuff. I lost a few toes, the rest look bad, and I'm in pain every single day, but I can walk or run on it and live a normal life. I have to see podiatrists pretty regularly, and need minor surgeries every couple of years. So I was at a VA doctor. She looked young enough to be in high school, cute and smart, and she did what she had to do professionally and painlessly. One of the better doctors I've been to as far as the work goes. The whole time she was talking about how interesting my injuries are, which I get a lot from foot doctors; my foot is basically everything they study in school, but in the flesh. When she asked if she could take a picture, I thought it was for study purposes so it was no big deal. The chick took a selfie with my foot. She smiled, put her face next to my foot, snapped the pic, and said "I'm gonna send this to my wife" and sent it while I was just stunned 0.0 I just... I mean... It's not even a nice-looking foot. It's all gnarled and twisted and it's a miracle I can walk on it. I mean... WTF? So yeah, feet people are weird. Do with this knowledge whatever you like. Use this story however you like.

Seeing this after the helluva boss vids, if you wonder why Charlie seems so Disney princess with all this? Because she basically is. One of the paintings in the hotel shows her and Vaggie in front of a castle that's the same as the Cinderella castle in Disneyland. Fitting, as that's in Lu Lu World, the place loo loo land was ripped off of.

Now you definitely have to add Helluva Boss to the list.

It’s still a good idea to check it out as it sets a tone for the rest of the show, generally speaking. Oh, and no one gets the joke. The Jeffrey for the cannibal cooking segment? Jeffrey Dahmer. Whether he couldn’t be there due to being purged in the extermination or is just still across town is unknown
