Nope as soon as his rookie contract is over he will get a chance to play again. If ancient Joe Flacco is still playing you know Pickett will get a chance
From what It sounded like he wanted to go to the eagles. Even before his draft he spent the most time with the eagles going out to dinner and stuff even though there wasn't a chance they'd draft him. It's his home team and him and his family's favorite team. I think he just figured if he was gonna be a backup he wanted to be on his favorite team. Besides eagles have more weapons and better oline for him to work with than he's had with the Steelers. He's probably going to have his best play yet backing up Jalen. He shouldn't have started his rookie year and wasn't put In A good situation. And then they signed russ to take his job outta nowhere. I don't blame him for leaving. He needs a change of scenery anyways. Now he's got new and better offense, coaches, and can learn under Jalen hurts.
@@Matt-yj1lznah bro you reaching! Kenny wasn’t good plain and simple. If Russel Wilson has you complaining about your starting job you were never the guy too begin with.
He was treated like shit by my Steelers. Lost his job while injured, and underwent surgery to come back faster, and overlooked for a third stringer to play in the playoffs, terrible move.
Near the end of last season, Pickett was promised the start for next season. But of course, when the team signed a veteran who will NOT be anything else but a starter... that damaged Pickett's confidence big time. So he ended up complaining. IMMEDIATELY the Steelers staff traded him. It's not all on Pickett. He does have the talent to be a great starting QB. But in the big leagues, they don't bother trying to "train" rookies anymore. They just thrust you into impossible situations and expect you to play 15x better than you did in College. That's why all the "great" QBs drafted in the past 7 years look like complete busts (minus Maholmes, that man is a true freak when it comes to talent). There's very little trust in the young QBs because everyone wants that "Dan Marino" or "Philip Rivers" QB right out of the gate. Quality talent, Bonafide starter and can lead an offense with little talent at the WR position.
The truth came out in the talks with Tomlin. Tomlin never wanted to draft Pickett. It was a Colbert and Rooney decision. Kenny didn't want to play for a coach that didn't want him and a GM that didn't draft him.
@markjantz6177 lmao what are you even talking about? Hurts is good, but he ain't more proven then Russle 🤣🤣 russle got a Ring and several MVP's. Hurts got 1 championship 😂 and 1 SB appearance
Not presumably to compete. It was reported that there was going to be no competition, and that it was Russell’s job. - Ian Rapaport Kenny ruined his career by passing for 2,000 yards and 6 TDs. Why tf would they let him compete for the starting Job?
Either way, Russell Wilson was signed to a 1 year contract. If he played mid overall he wouldn't be back next year and Kenny would compete for QB1 against somebody else, and probably start for the second half of the season at the very least. Now he'll be a backup unless he does well enough in preseason that a team that ends up desperate for a QB gives him a shot. He probably just begun his career as a backup that'll play for 7 or 8 different teams and then retire.
@@websdontmatter5631 i don’t like the way it all happened. I think Pickett showed promise at times but that was few and far between. You defending him is beyond me but everyone has their hero’s in life ig.
The funny part is that Pickett thinks he handled it “the right way” even though now he’ll probably never hold a starting job ever again. Only way he’ll see the field is in preseason and if the QB1 is injured
Thing is pickett is a eagles fan he playing for his favorite team and just by playing well in the preseason can get him some looks from other team if they qb goes down during the season
@@folumb We brought him in to compete with the QB with drafted last year, Tanner McKee. If he beats him out for the starting job, it is what it is, but i doubt that's going to happen. McKee was a STUD in the preseason last year and looked better than Marcus Mariota. So with another year under his belt, I really don't think Kenny is beating him for the QB2 job🤷♂️
@@folumbI mean, they had Mariota and Minshew before Pickett. A backup isn’t meant to come in and perform as well as the starter, just run a basic offense
@@bamafan18 he never got a fair chance without that trash ass OC matt Canada was a bad OC and when Matt Canada was fired the next game he played very well and the game after that he played good before he got injured
More than likely, the shittiest system in the league ruined his career. It’s either that or Matt Canada wasn’t to blame. If that’s the case, everyone owes Canada and his family a sincere apology.
They told him he would be able to compete, and then a week later he was told Wilson was the starter. I'd feel misled too. I want to trust who I work for.
When Mason Rudolph was put in, that is when Pickett developed the whining attitude. He said he wasn’t going to be Rudolph’s back-up and wouldn’t even suit up. I don’t know what else went on but Tomlin wasn’t happy and Pickett wouldn’t stop pouting. He was always getting hurt and I think he was a terrible quarterback. I say good riddance!
Getting reps with the 2s doesn’t mean you don’t have a chance to start. Kenny played like shit so he would have had to work for the starting job or sit as qb2 for a year. Now he gets to sit as qb2 for years to come. Stop defending this dude lmao
Ya never know in the NFL, Hurts was in the MVP conversation in 22/23 and showed some regression last year. And, his style of play leaves him more susceptible to injuries (tbf, so does Wilson’s.) I seem to recall another running QB who led his team to a Super Bowl but couldn’t quite finish the job, was talked about as an MVP candidate, deteriorated rapidly, them got famous for taking a knee.
@@Steelfan-oe7okEhhh, idkkk.. even if he didn't cry and whine, I think Pittsburgh still might have gotten rid of him after signing Wilson and when they had the opportunity to get Fields. It's a super easy decision. Like, you wouldn't even have to think about it. If you find out that you have an opportunity to get Fields after signing Wilson, you're immediately choosing Fields over Pickett. But, considering that he did cry and whine, he probably would've been booted from Pittsburgh for absolutely nothing, lol. He probably would have been released even if Fields wasn't an option. Pickett doesn't understand that he's just not good. He's really thinks that he is good enough to be a starter and that he's good enough to be the face of the Steelers and hit with a franchise tag. When in reality, dudes not good, at all. He's barely even good enough to be in the league at all, even as a practice squad QB. His playing alone showed that he barely deserves to be a backup and that he will only be able to keep a drive alive for a couple of plays if a starting QB is forced to miss a couple plays for whatever reason. He's backing up Hurts now, but Hurts isn't injury prone and if anything, he'll only see the field in preseason and if Hurts needs to sit out a play or two. Other than that, I don't see him being an Eagle next season IFF he even finishes out this year without being cut. He's more than likely going to be fighting for a starting position with A.J McCarron in the UFL, lol.
Sooo that's y he complained.....because he wasn't confident in beating out Justin fields (they had this planned for awhile im sure. Idk y people think these business function like regular people and make decisions on whims)
Once they got Wilson, they weren't going for Fields anymore. They wanted to see Pickett compete against Wilson. Pickett then had a hissy fit, so they traded him and then got Fields for peanuts. Pickett showed his true nature. Between this and how he acted when Rudolph played and did good.
@denisfolcik1373 Oooh, okay. I honestly thought that even tho they had already signed Wilson, once Fields became available and Pittsburgh had an opportunity to get him that it was a "no brainer" and they would have easily dropped Pickett in a blink of an eye of Fields regardless of his attitude. At least, if I was apart of the Steelers head coaching staff or apart of the decision making group, I wouldn't have hesitated to drop Pickett for Fields. I just don't see any potential in Pickett as a starting QB or even as a reliable backup. Like, I feel the most he would be able to do would be to keep a drive alive if the starting QB was forced to miss a couple snaps for whatever reason. But, if he were to go down with an injury that forced him to miss multiple weeks, whoever Pickett played for at the time would be totally screwed. Wilson isn't a terrible QB. He just wasn't with an organization that was for him, if that makes sense. I feel like Fields was in the same situation, just less severe than Wilsons. Fields has the potential to be a really good QB and possibly even a franchise QB if he is with the right organization. He's gunna be a clutch backup for Wilson. Pickett, nooo. Not so much. He's like a practice squad QB or even a UFL QB like A.J McCarron.
The new United Football League is looking for some qb's😂😂😂 Kenny needs to work on his professionalism. When he told reporters that he learned nothing watching Mason from the sideline....I knew then he wasn't the guy,...now look at him 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
Mason was better anyway, ever since dude got married and stopped chasing pussy he seems to be have become focused and gotten better. I think he would have been the starter if we didn't get Russ and Fields and he still might compete who knows? We have a lot better QB room than we did that's for sure, and for cheap as hell too
@@katiecaddle209 8-4-1 NFL record. Rudolph is going to start in Tennessee and will b another eff up on Tomlins long list of eff ups. The Steelers have great players since Tomlin showed up. Once Cowhers leaders were gone it's been hard to watch all stars get outcoached and outschemed
By contrast, Tom Brady was a backup QB (199), he worked his ass off, kept his mouth closed. He famously said, when they put me on the field, I'm never coming off.
@@thedawgpound2506bro hurts defense legit gave up on him. his coordinator was running plays that don’t work in the nfl and he still did it. everyone hates on hurts when it wasn’t even his fault and im not even an eagles fan
Didn't he asked to be traded though? I think he would had stayed had it been an open competition but it's Wilson's job to lose. Just like it's his job to lose against Fields. Also, Pickett is going to his hometown town team in the Eagles. His rookie contract is also guaranteed so he's still going to get paid. As for Wilson getting the veteran minimum, all it did was screw with Denver as Denver will just have to pay the rest of the money that he's owed.
Woah woah woah let’s slow down with hurts “perennially” being in the mvp conversation. He wasn’t in the conversation last year and 3 years ago he was seen as an average QB.
Its example of many still out there of how young adults overlook their self ego they developed thru growing up around on line sociology of this new society, their emotions running away just like how they expressed themselves thru their media outlet. Many young adults are too worked up over nothing due to being habit of behaviors on line, it brings out this persona in the real world of being the BASE FOUNDATION of your place in this world.
His career will be fine. Steelers changed their mind about him and showed him that by trading for two other quarterbacks. There was never going to be a quarterbacks competition. So the dude asked to be traded rather than continue to be humiliated by the Steelers. Both sides got what they wanted, given the situation.
The thing I noticed about Kenny Pickett besides his tiny hands, was the lack of leadership,at every press conference after a loss he never ever took the blame or the responsibility,it was always something or somebody else's fault! That's not a sign of a leader or an NFL QB!
@@Switchfoot81084he just sourced and said press conferences losses he had watched Are you stupid? Would you like the date time temp and color shirt he was wearing? STFU. This isnt highschool little buddy, adults talk about things
I mean if you think about it he's on a winning team. Jalen Hurts runs a lot so there's a chance for injury. And he doesn't have to do anything but know the playbook and play occasionally. He's also going to an established offense with good weapons and a top tier O-Line where he can learn unlike he had the ability to in Pittsburgh. He was getting hurried and didn't have nearly as good of weapons. This is basically him taking a year to actually get some good training in without being thrown to the wolves before having a chance to sign with someone else in 2 years or getting traded next year if he gets an opportunity and shows that a different team might want to take a chance on him
@@ThatCrazedNinersFan think about it from his perspective your team was in the 5th seed before you got injured in your second year and your team is trying to replace you because of stats (instead of wins unlike any other qb ever) even though you have broken multiple records in 2 years
Yea I was thinking the same thing. Once my 49ers figured him out he hasn't been the same. We'll see what he looks like this upcoming season. But he looks the same as he did down the stretch of last season, he won't be a starter for long...
Talking about Jalen Hurts being "perennially on MVP conversation" is ludicrous. He has had 2 good seasons, and being honest it could be argued he has only had one real good season. Far from the meaning of "perennial MVP candidate", he is just an okay-good QB.
Well yeah, when he's only been a starter for 3 years with this year coming up, then yes he's been top 5 in mvp voting since becoming a starter, up until the collapse at the end. Other than that, yeah he was a perennial mvp

QB play aside, that’s a huge dig by the Steelers organization to bring in two guys, 1 of which no one is even certain is good anymore and the other has yet to actually prove his worth. I would be pissed of my team sold me out and lied to me too. Now he is on a winning team and will have a fresh start. Why would he wait for the Steelers to make him a starter again when they clearly do not want him? Your take on this situation is sophomoric.
I mean, he brought that on himself, and this trade reminded me of the Cory Coleman trade with him getting upset over be run with the 2's if I remember correctly and got traded from the Browns to the Giants and ruined his career.
Dude was told after 2 year of russell wilson being a top 32 qb that he had to be his backup? Crazy, never should’ve talked, insubordination, he must hate the elderly…ect. ect.
I think the organization lied to him that they would improve the team and give him a shot to turn things around and instead benched him without allowing him to compete for the job.
He got hurt, Was severely outplayed by Mason, Was told he would have to compete with Wilson, Then ran because he can't beat Mason, He certainly isn't beating Wilson. Never even took the chance, He knows he hasn't a shot in hell of starting....Anywhere. Quitter and a loser, Already a 1st round bust. Glad the steelers didn't try to hold the crybaby because they drafted him about 4 rounds to early.
@Shawn_313 good points but Mason was already gone and wilson is no world beater at this point in his career. Wilson / Pickett (see what I did there) were terrible for majority of last year. Tomlin had his work cut out for a winning record this year.
He's gone so they did improve the team. If he went into camp looking like a brand new QB he'd have a chance to compete but we'll never know because he cried his way out
There are probably 6-8 teams Kenny could have ended up on that would take his chances of playing to zero: Bills, Chiefs, 49ers, Green Bay, Baltimore, maybe Miami and the Lions and of course the Eagles. If Kenny had no say in where he got traded to, he had to weigh the possibility of going to a team that had little need for a starter, or staying in Pittsburgh where they pretty much told everyone that Russ would start. I still think his moment to shine and grow would be on Pittsburgh, and let steel sharpen steel against Russ.
It funny how nobody talks about the real reason he asked for a trade. He was told it was a competition for the starting spot then they traded for Wilson and then he gets told he’s the backup now and then he asked for a trade.
I'd argue being the steelers starting qb is worse than being a backup on a great team. Because the steelers aren't making it out of the afc in the foreseeable future, I don't even think they're making it out of the wildcard round.
