The two in the interview seemed genuinely remorseful. I think they learned their lesson. It's obvious and easy to say what they did was wrong--and people shouldn't get away with it--but when we start to characterize people as irredeemably "bad", especially for relatively minor offenses (as opposed to things like crime), we're doing more harm than good. In psychology, researchers find that feelings of guilt related to past negative actions lead to character improvements. Feeling of shame regarding who one is as a person lead to the cycle repeating. So I guess that I'm agreeing that it's good to condemn such actions but think we should be wary of condemning people themselves. If we get to the point where we're taking pleasure in other people's pain, that might even say something worrying about our own mental health.

How do I get to heaven? Will my good deeds be measured against my bad deeds? Do I need to be a good person to go to heaven? How do I know if I'm good enough? Well the bible says no man is good, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. So how do we get to heaven? Answer: By believing on Jesus Christ who took the punishment for our sin on the cross. There are no amount of good works we can do to achieve salvation because salvation is a free gift of God. We need to humble ourselves, realize we are sinners and that we need a savior. John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave his only son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.How do I get to heaven? They may have actually ran. But they knew that they were not fast enough to qualify for Boston, for example. So like someone who copies someone else's homework or exam answers to get a better grade, they cheated. They could simply run a relay race. I personally know of one runner who often runs ultra marathons for other runners. But it is not to get them a good time. It is just because other runners may not be able to go so she simply runs their race. For free. Maybe even with styling her hair like theirs to make it her look similar. is that cheating??? Maybe.

Theyre not cheating ithers at all. Ither runners can only run as fadt as their own legs will let them. If they're running 9 minute miles then thats it......this couple cheating isnt going to make others run any other than 9 minutes is it you fool. It doesn't matter what other people do your time is your time.....no amount of others cheating is going to alter that time. Ask any runner....theyre interested in their times not positions. When i was in the military i couldnt care less if i was first or last as long as i gave my all and tried to always get a personal best and that timing was down to my efforts. Yeah, true. I agree with the "personal time" thing. But, here's 2 points.... 1: The race organizers and marshals have spent a lot of their time and effort to make running events happen. It's kind of a waste of THEIR time, if they have to f### around with people, who just turn up to cheat. As a marshal, I would get annoyed. 2: When enter into a popular running event, there's a possibility they limit the amount of entrants. Unfair when a GENUINE competitor, who's been training for months, has missed the cut-off ... when some of the entrants who got in, are gonna cheat.

If someone tells me that they ran and completed a marathon, and not only that but won a medal, I would be genuinely impressed. I would think that this person Is disciplined, competitive, and determined. Hell, even bringing that up in an interview will give you a leg up! There's a certain kind of prestige that comes with a marathon and any kind of sports gets destroyed by cheaters. And cheaters in general (if they're doing it for a false sense of accomplishment and not just trolling) make me sick. I'm glad that this person is doing this and glad that we got to see a story like this of a couple cheating. At a minimum, this is a really good social experiment with valuable data. Why waste all of that energy, time, all to run a race that will in effect do no real good in the world (at least directly)? Why are people eating food, just to burn it off? Why should people ever have pets, have fun, follow their dreams, careers, and well being when they should be helping some other person's child that was unfortunate enough to be born in the extreme poor of Africa or Syria, and also that child's child and the millions more? The pure path is hard to live by, and I highly doubt you're nowhere near it. Show us the way sir.

For those who might think it is a trivial matter, I would like to tell you what can be involved in running just one marathon. The point is not to brag, but to let the cheats know what they are stealing. I have run marathons, and not just to stroll along and cross the finish line. I am a reasonably athletic guy with decent speed but no extraordinary talent for running. I trained my butt off for years just to get ready for an attempt, then spent 18 weeks of marathon specific training running 50-70 miles per week. I ran in the rain and in 90 degree heat. I ran 6 runs of 20+ miles and 18 of 13+ miles. I ran with bronchitis. I once got up at 4:30 am, ran 22 miles, relaxed for a few hours, then went to work from noon to 10pm. I would run 8 miles hard in the morning then 6 easy miles in the afternoon. Miles and miles and miles. Literally thousands. Over 2400 in one calendar year. 200 days of running in a row once. Chased by dogs, heckled by teenagers, and nearly run over by an oblivious 90 year old driver. Why do this? Because I wanted to do it. And I wanted to do it to see what I could really do if I tried my very best. I think that perhaps I could even have done more, if I had been a bit tougher. And I got results that I will be proud of forever. These cheaters are stealing whatever prizes (usually just medals), qualifications, and accolades have been earned by those who put in the effort. They are stealing it. They can run faster, but they don't want to put in the miles. They could be better, and they know how. But they would rather pretend and steal than get up and run. They should be ashamed of themselves and I suspect most of them are. If you try your best, put in the miles, and take the pain, then you are winner if it takes you 6 hours and you finish dead last. These course cutters and bib swappers are such losers that most of them can't even do a quality job of cheating. They disgust me.

Steven Turner as a high school track runner, I’ve never had that problem, but I would’ve hated having the one race I won stolen by a cheater. I’ve gone up to 60 miles per week to achieve that and my 5th place finish at regionals.
@ah7027
@ah7027 6 лет назад
I agree with this. hours of training goes into it and for someone to just cheat it is insulting. it also goes the other way though. I used to run 70-90 miles a week in high school and college for training. in high school we ran a small race where our top 5 guys could've easily won the race so we made it a workout doing half mile hard half mile easy. towards the end we were probably in 3rd or 4th as a group and our last half would be a fast one so we were dropping like 2:30 halfs. some mom threw a fit when we came out of the woods in first and claimed we must've cheated to pass her son lol. either way it hurts to have all the hard work you've put into something called into question and im glad this guys takes the time to call people out on it.

It's been a while since I've used SPSS, though you can have the program look for a range of numbers between individual variables. From there it will highlight or organize what you're looking for. You can do it manually like he did on the video. Can also make a graph and look for outliers. No 'complicated algorithm'. I'd say the more difficult part is where he looks for photographic/video evidence. Respect though. The extra time is for a good deed :)

I was engaged to a woman, lived with her for almost two years and dated for a year before that. I knew she at times struggled with her self-esteem. She was a model at a teenager and now in her late twenties, she wasn't getting booked as much thus she lost a part of her self-worth. One day she informs me she has signed up to run the Niagra Falls Marathon. She never was a runner so it caught me by surprise. I said do you think you can get ready in just a month, she assured me it was not a problem that she was natural long distance star in high school, could run forever without ever getting tired. Over the next month, I saw her leave the house for a training run maybe four or five times only. The runs were never more than a half an hour. The big day came and my aged mother decided to join us to cheer this lady on....When I saw bust out of the starting line a good clip I thought maybe she is a natural? I really didn't know what to think. Around the four and a half hour mark my mother and I head to the finishing line to watch the leaders coming in......then around 5 hour and 20 minutes her she comes looking fresh as a spring flower. She crossed the line and my mother and I showered her in praise. I felt a sense of guilt for doubting her but she did have a history of stretching the truth to put it lightly. In the finishing area they volunteers were running around collecting bibs and taking the timers on the runners shoes....when it came her turn, she refused to give up her timer saying it wasn't important and she didn't do it to compete just to prove something to herself. I protested, reminding her of what an accomplishment finishing a marathon was and reminded her that previously she had said she wanted to run the Boston Marathon. Having accreditation for finishing Niagra would allow her to compete in Boston, again she continued to protest. I started to grow suspicious. We drove back to Toronto and she basked in the glory of my mothers compliments. Anyway, to make a long story short. A few days after the race I was convinced she had not run the entire distance. I went into her Gymbag and took the chip thing off her runners. I took it to a sporting goods store that could read these devices... It turned out there was only eight miles on the device. She hadn't even run a third of the race. When I asked her why she just cried and cried. A couple weeks later I moved out and called off the engagement. I learned about a lot more lies, in fact the two and half to three years I was with her was one big lie......Moral of the story......don't hook up with ex models with self esteem issues - and if you suspect something and the suspicioun never ceases trust your gut and follow your heart......more times than not you will be right in your assessment.

Rebecca Spellmeyer I think he really tries to be POSITIVE before accusing someone. Like, with a MASSIVE difference in split times, those people are either extremely stupid or cheating.

As a runner, these excuses are laughable. Running is about you accomplishing something based on your sheer will and determination. Accomplishing something big one step at a time. It shouldn’t be about anyone else or wowing anyone. It comes down to pride. Pride was a driver in every choice to cheat. I never care about the time. I just want to finish, make memories with participating family/friends, and say I crossed the finish line.

I gave up trying to qualify for Boston when I realized the high number of cheaters. Years ago when I was running in Lowell (a popular Boston qualifying race), at about the 23 mile mark I found myself too exhausted to keep up my qualifying pace. I saw it slipping away. Suddenly I was passed by 25 runners running as a group at a pace that was much too fast for their finishing time. They were all fresh looking. No sweat. Like they were just starting their run. And all with smug smiles on their faces. Cheaters who went on to qualify. Unfortunately, I missed it.

Dude, who cares? There's multiple ways you can prove yourself. Racing is a stupid sport to begin with anyway. You don't gain anything from it.
@pcastonguay
@pcastonguay Год назад
@@printingwithpeek4897 Well, I wouldn't call trying to qualify to be racing exactly. And for a while I did gain a lot of motivation from it. But that's all in the past. I've given up trying. I'm getting too old now.

@katy3901 It does though. You're running in one direction for the sole purpose of it to end. Improving yourself and being able to do something are way better than a race. You can run 24 miles on a treadmill and just go home.

Good work buddy. Happened to me in the 2007 Las Vegas Marathon. I had my Boston qualifying time but I decided to check on fellow runners as I had finished 3rd in my age group. Being a numbers guy, I checked on splits of those ahead of me. The guy who finished first had slightly better splits and I thought, good race. The guy ahead of me had splits that made no sense. We had finishing times just over 3 hours, but this guy ran his first half in just under 2 hours. This made his second half faster than Hailie Grebrselassie had run and would have been a minute faster than the world record for a half marathon. I checked photos and could only find this guy in the first half. No second half intermediate splits. I wrote to the organizers and got no response. That prompted me to check out others on my age group who finished lower and I found another guy who claimed to have fun about 3:25. I checked his history and he had never run faster than 3:50. He also had weird splits in this race. I finally wrote to the race organizers again and told them if this was not corrected I would report them to the Boston Athletic Association. The offending names were removed the next day. Every race organizer should have an embedded algorithm that highlights improbable splits which could then be checked manually. Cheaters should be banned from running another race. Much tougher to find cheaters using other runners to get their times. One way is to check identical times, in case one person is wearing two chips.

I lived in Mauritania which is in west Africa for about a year. I ran the half marathon when I was there and I saw many people jump on the back of pickup trucks to be driven closer to the finish line. Since the race was not sanctioned it really doses not matter and local officials did not seem to care either. The thought was why would you not cheat if you can get away with it. I ran 3 sub 4 hours marathons and am very proud of myself but I guess people would rather chest to get thet sub 3 hour time.

The point of running marathons and even shorter 10k/5k is just to finish. To challenge yourself. People that cheat are like people who make their own trophies to display.
