His nickname is 'Sonko' which roughly translated from sheng' means a wealthy person or boss. Well, Gideon Mbuvi Kioko, a.k.a Sonko is the new boss of politics in Makadara constituency and the new political star in Nairobi after he delivered a stunning victory against political big wigs Reuben Ndolo and Dick Wathika to clinch the Makadara seat in Monday's by election. But who is this 35 year-old businessman turned politician? Where did he get his immense wealth from? Is he involved in some shady business as has been alleged by some people? And just how did he manage to win the Makadara seat? Sylvia Chebet caught up with Sonko and posed all these questions and more..

35 years with a first born in form 3? To be in form 3 in Kenya you need to be at least 16 years. So Sonko was a teenager father. He really bloomed early. If all his wealth is genuine and hard earned though, I appreciate him.

Mike Kioko, Gidion Mbuvi, Sonko - what the heck is his real name? That said, regardless of his source of wealth, I gotta admit that he's done well for himself. We don't see too many "thugs & pimps" getting elected in other parts of the world with the exception of Berlusconi in Italy.
