I love how you’re so proud of your country and it’s culture. You’re not just hung up on surfing but sharing what makes Portugal unique and beautiful. It seems like a lovely place to live and I can’t wait to visit ❤️🙏much love and respect from Japan
First surfed that zone in 1981. I remember first glimpse at the harbour mouth seeing a 'giant' right hander out there. Two people out that day. A Portuguese surfer paddled 100mt down the coast to shake my hand and greet me! Back again in 1986, lots more surfers - but not too many. My friend Tim and I had one board between us - An Aloha he brought from Sydney with him. We stayed in an awesome Pensao and surfed that beach corner 0:39 , alternating turns on the board. Amo Portugal, e o povo que tem coracoes preciosos e humilde. 'brigad.
Did you sell the aloha here? If yes it was probably Bertier's aloha then Enrico's ( guy in the video in Coimbra) I wish I could post a photo of it here :) Small world
@@a.g.4-1-7-1 Ola! nah, i carried it back to France for some reason, probably unclear plans of where would would head next. My friend Mikael in Chambery (not known for its waves!) gave me 60US or something for it, which I sorely needed. I think he took it to Madagascar later on... Obrigado pela mesagem!
I was in Portugal recently on vacation and I was amazed with the amount of places to surf. Its a place I recommend people visiting , not only for surf , but for culture , food and incredible beauty. The Portuguese people are extremely friendly and inviting plus the food is phenomenal..
Surfed there in 1979 with graham Nile and a few guys from Uk, very few locals then and no tow in on that point break. Tough paddle out and a right handed that killed my legs.
Being a local who always surfed those waves, you Totally got the vibe of "my" city. I've lived in a lot of places, but nothing beats figueira in quality, crowd and city heritage. Thats the reason i got back after 15 years. Well done guys!
I'm really enjoying your series on this area. Bringing back so many great memories. I surfed that area by myself many years ago. Over head waves everyday and nobody out. I wondered where everybody was! I wish I had known about Coimbra, but alas, there wasn't much of an internet back then. Such a lovely people and place. Rock on.
Hey I was there also in 1971 in Figuera do Foz with my parents stayed at a camp site near that point break, I think it ran about 7km on big days, now my son surfs the coast from Oporto down. So it’s more than 50 years since it was surfed. Others went there also from Cornwall.
@@nicvonrupp1671 yes I’m still surfing at 64 years old, but in warmer places, actually in the water every day, in dubai now and yes there is some surf here. You should meet up with Vittorio my son who is a physiotherapist in Oporto and surfs almost every day.
Travelled to Fig da Foz for surfing holidays in 1979/80/81 with my wife and we camped on the jetty at Cabedelo. We met John Berry there, he met Sylvie there and they got married and we visit them in Les Landes almost every year. We also met two families from Brittany and still exchange Christmas cards and messages. Thank you Figueira for providing us with lifelong friends.
@@a.g.4-1-7-1 He still visits with his wife and has some firm local friends. He has been making surfboards (Little River) for about 50 years and although his output has not been great over the last few years I would say that the majority of those recent boards have been made for Fig da Foz surfers
By far the best surfing vlog out there. Love the energy you bring and the variety of people and culture. You really have a talent for being infront of the camera, suoer relaxed. The surfing and waves are of course always great to watch too.
Surfed that point 50 years ago. Only me and one other nibbling at the edges of it. Good surf at the southern breakwater as well. We just parked on the breakwater. No one else around. Good memories.
Love that you did show Coimbre as well. You have a very unique culture in Portugal. The wave is nice as well, but seems like Tom doesn't like strangers in the line up. I do rather stay in Bali, we are are used to share with tourists and celebrate the way of life...I believe that you will always get the best conditions anyway as a "local". You have to there when it is on.
You haters are all nuts, went to that spot in moroco where Billy kemper later got hurt, and all this supposed crowd was washed away from England and Switzerland, and it was just me and some Australians and Moroccans, if the waves get real good you don't have to worry
Figuera da Foz is a city with the most potential to be an awesome surf city and massive tourist destination that i have ever seen but actually its a bit of a dump and whoever is charge of running that city has no clue what they have in their hands !
Why would anybody want to turn a uncrowded place into a massive tourist destination is behind my comprehension, but i guess some people think that more people and money means more development, i guess we will never learn...
Ok you try and convince your wife to go and live there then…i tried - on the basis of good uncrowded surf but thats not enough for most ladies, they need a trendy beach cafe to talk shit with their besties or banging brazilian style beach promenade to see and be seen. Yes bro i am a bit bitter about it 😅
Imagine if this flog did these videos giving up Hawaiian secret spots. He’d be beaten to a pulp. Dunno why he thinks its ok to do it in other countries
