To go into a bit more detail, ARD is actually the umbrella organisation for the regional public broadcasting corporations of Germany. They produce a national tv channel officially named "Das Erste" (The First), but often also called just ARD. Arte is a tv channel jointly produced by German and French public broadcasting corporations. It is known for having very high quality content which is also the point of the meme, i.e. how Arte is so high quality while requiring relatively little money compared to other public broadcasting in Germany.

The Schufa is a private company that determines someone's credit score based on tons of data, and they are being consulted whenever you ask a bank for a loan, or make a contract with a phone company for example. The thing is that their algorithms are being kept secret and no one knows the exact reason for their individual score. And when they make a mistake by mixing up names e.g. it can cause lots of trouble.

@@faultier1158 I don't know, nowadays if you want to rent an apartment your Schufak score matters. Also, if you want to buy something on credit it can be denied if your Schufak credit score is not good enough. My partner wanted to buy an overpriced graphic card once on credit, with installments. He never had a credit before, always paid everything in full and on time. His credit was denied, cause according to Schufak his credit liability was very low. When he called that shitty company to ask, he was informed that his credit score is so low because he never had a credit before, he needs to prove his liabality with a smaller credit payment first, a micro credit. That means, if he wants to for example buy a car with installment payment, he can't unless he would buy a few things with installments that he could easily afford without that - to prove that he pays back those installments on time.

But if your "anliegen" is to just use this road to pass through and go to your destination beyound this, than you're not supposed to use this road at all.

That sign is mostly equivalent to "local traffic only" or "no thru traffic" in the US. Regarding the Turks in Germany: Many Turks in Germany have dual citizenship. And recently there were elections in Turkey. So the Turks with dual citizenship could also participate in the elections in Turkey. Erdogan owes his victory to the German Turks because they voted for Erdogan in the majority. The thing with the Turkish Lira: The falling of the Lira means that Turkish immigrants when visiting their country of origin can buy much more for their Euros. There is a very big Turkish community in Germany, dating back to the sixties when the Germans needed workers for their new factories and got them from Italy, Greece and other countries, but the biggest numbers came from Turkey. They were supposed to stay only for a few years, but since they settled in Germany and brought their families and since their work was still needed at the time they stayed and became German citizens. I don't know the current numbers which are probably much lower, but at some point they were the biggest immigrant group in Germany estimated at almost 20% of population.

I agree, that "Denglish" has become more and more popular. Not only among young people but amongst genX and millennials, too. I would connect that to commercials' and advertisements' influence in general: In the 1990s brands, which operate globally, started to use the same slogan for all countries - on the one hand, to strengthen the brand and make it worldwide recognizable more easily. On the other hand to save time and money as well as to penetrate new European markets quickly: When the Eastern block and Balkan countries (former Soviet Union, GDR [former Eastern Germany], Poland, Tchech, Slovakia, and so on) opened their borders, there were huge new markets for Western global players. They were about to enter those new markets at the same time as their competitors - first comes first served. It would have cost tons of money to adjust their campaigns to each country individually. Keep in mind almost all of these countries don't use Latin letters, but have unique alphabets with unique letters. Therefore the slogans usually were in English and in Latin letters, to make sure the brand was recognized in each country, because the inhabitants of these countries were allowed to travel now internationally, too. They should recognize the brand while traveling, too. A consistent slogan made that easier. Therefore the political changes in Europe during the 1990s influenced the markets, what influenced the branding, what influenced the daily language in general. The guy talking about partying with Germans is clearly no native speaker, so his "Denglish" is more "naturally" switching between German and English.🙂 But I'd like to claim "Vorgluehen" is more common against young people, since they have less money and want to save money at the bars where drinks are expensive. Somehow you might argue, that another type of "German efficiency". 😃

Oh and Schufa is a private company here in Germany that is extremely powerful because it collects data from people in more than dubious ways (and there was a court decision that some of their practices were illegal), uses it to evaluate your creditworthiness (while keeping secret the way they calculate this) and sells this information to institutions like banks who use the data to decide if they give you a credit. So there are many people here in Germany who think that this should be done by a public facility or at least be controlled and regulated by the government.

9:09 There are millions of Turks living in Germany, people who immigrated throughout the years. But they have relatives in Turkey, they often visit the country etc. And since the Turkish currency goes brutally downhill in the recent years, Euro currency against Turkish Lira keeps gaining more and more value and when they travel back to Turkey, what they earn as a moderate amount in Germany becomes super crazy in Turkey and their Euros keep growing more and more when converted to Turkish Lira. And vast majority of the German Turks (who are duel citizens or have the right to still vote in Turkey) vote for Erdogan fanatically, who happens to be the main reason of Turkey’s collapsing economy, and they don’t give a fuck because they don’t experience the downfall effects of Turkey’s bad economical situation. So “La vie est belle” to German Turks. That’s what the jokes r about.

Since all Turks living in Germany have most of their retirementmoney/savings stashed Euro they increased their purchasing power in Turkey. The meme at around 6:20 is about the "Rechtsfahrgebot". It means that everyone is required to use the most right lane if possible. The idea is to create a linear flow. The lane on the left is supposed to remain free for most of the time unless you decide to overtake someone or if there is a traffic jam. But. Most of the people won't take the right lane if everything is free and rather use the middle lane (if available). If there are only two lanes however the people tend to use the right lane. They only spread out if there are more than two lanes but the lane to the furthest left remains free most of the time. And if we think about the "Rechtsfahrgebot" that's a weird behavior in retrosepct.

8:15 Germany had a regulation where one has to give up its original citizenship to become German citizen. Most of those with an Turkish background decided to hang on to the Turkish passport, as they live and work in Germany for many decades, which is possible as they have acquired an unlimited residence permit - similar to an US green card. Those who retained can take part in the Turkish elections and the majority (German results >70%) voted for the recent authoritarian government, whereas only 48-49 Turks out of 100 who live and work within the country voted for the present authoritarian leader. That is why the German public does not understand that Turks with permanent residency in Germany finally voted him in, but they do not have to live in the authoritarian regime nor are they dependent on the Turkish Lira which sinks in value literally every second.

Schufa is real in Germany. But this is not a credit system. Schufa is a short name for "Schutzgemeinschaft für allgemeine Kreditsicherung". It is a company that records your payment behavior. For example, concluding a telephone contract or generally subscribing to a service or magazine. Loans too, of course. But if you are late with the payment, then you will get a negative entry in Schufa. If you breach the contract, then Schufa can prevent you from concluding contracts in Germany. It even includes rental contracts for home or apartments are also included. So some people have become homeless trying to move with this contract ban. Germany ticket or "Deutschlandticket" was planned with a Schufa check. This plan has since been scrapped.

This seems fine, the point is schuffa aprearently collects its data illegaly and often messes up its customer data resulting in false claims and illegidimate low "credit scores". Most banks link their customers to schufa by default and if not you will have trouble paying for example online. All in all its nearly impossible escaping schuffa data collection (and up-messing) in germany.

One of the reasons why the German Autobahn works is the so called "Rechtsfahrgebot" (command to drive on the right). Which means that, if possible, and not in a immediate situation where you are going to overtake, you have to take the right-most lane. Together with the prohibition to overtake on the right, it _should_ mean that people only take the left lanes when then want to pass another vehicle, and immediately return to the rightmost lane after that. This is a legal rule, so you can be fined if you don't follow it. That's the theory. In practice, there are are number of exceptions, and there is quite a broad line of interpretation how long such an "immediate situation where you are going to overtake" is. But even then... there are the so-called "Mittelspurschleicher" or "Linksspurschleicher" (crawler on the middle/left lane), who drive, obviously, in the middle lane, even if the right lane is completely free. And, if they are really into it, relatively slowly. This forces people who want to pass to either cross all lanes, even to the leftmost lane and risk hindering much faster cars... or to ponder whether to pass right (which is forbidden), try to get the person to move over (which is at least legally grey) or to stick behind this idiot (which is annoying).

Residents free means that residents of this street are allowed to drive through the street, which is not allowed normally, so he uses a wordplay on the word "Anlieger" (Residents) and the word "Anliegen" (Goal, purpose) to say that he has an "Anliegen" and that is to come through this street, which in his logic makes him an "Anlieger".

This includes income, debt, mortgages and whatever else. And it goes back years and years. So if you failed to pay pack a loan 15 years ago, and now want to take a loan again, the bank may refuse to give it. I think you have something similar in the states, kind of a point system that rates people. And for most, its not about IF you are in debt rather than HOW MUCH.
