Jason and I swap out my old Small Fin for a used XF9000 Big Fin Secondary Clutch. Because the Helix is specific to the motor we need to swap that from my old clutch to the new one and then put it all back together and hope everything works!

Haha, I built my spring removal tool out of some threaded rod welded into the center hole of an old lawnmower blade for a base, then a section of tube followed by a trimmed former lawn mower blade to do the compressing. Honestly buying the correct tool is too pricey for what it does, and all these clutches are a bit different. A little creativity gets the job done. Happy New Year bud.

I have a 2013 F1100 Turbo. From factory, the jackshaft flexes up to 180 thousandths of an inch and the bracket that holds the jackshaft bearing on the clutch side came attached to the engine. Every time you let off the throttle, the belt takes the brunt of the force from over shifting and it heats up. Guys have spent thousands trying to fix belt blowing issues by installing new clutches, jackshafts, etc. If you want to be done blowing belts, especially if you have it tuned up (I have 240 horse tune, cold air intake, extended track, Bikeman Clutch kit), you'll have to replace a couple parts. The bracket that holds the jackshaft on the secondary side has to be replaced as well as the jackshaft. The new brace will stop the overheating on deceleration and the heavier jackshaft will keep your secondary from pulling out of parallel when you're accelerating. This should have been addressed right from factory and a couple engineers did in fact lose their jobs at Arctic Cat over this. They now work at Polaris. lol. Scott Taylor Engineering still makes these parts and he does them well. For the double approach fix, you're looking at just shy of $1000. That's a bit to spend but better than having a $5,000+ paperweight that you don't want to ride because it constantly blows $120+ belts.

I had the updates done on my 12 XF when I bought it as a carry over and knock on wood and 7 years later still on my original belt. You should be all good with the big fin secondary.

If your having problems blowing belts or even if your not this is a must have AC Part # 6639-817. Have a 2013 XF800 Cross Tour was eating belts like crazy this did the trick. Ducts the air straight to secondary

I've had no issues with belts on my 809 Mach Z and l have a plate on my secondary.. Usually blown belts are an indication of poor clutch maintenance, improper alignment and off sets or bad clutch calibrations, bad engine mounts or everything I've mentioned combined..

I have the older style Cat roller secondary and its quite a bit different than your newer secondary. Thanks for posting, as I learned allot about the newer style secondary. Are you able to adjust clutch parallelism on your sled? TIP: You can clean/wash both primary and secondary clutches in your dishwasher, they come out very clean. Just don't do it when your wife is around! They should be cleaned once a season as belt dust wears the clutches faster.
@SwankyCatProductions
@SwankyCatProductions 3 года назад
Have you told me what sled you've got? I want to say F1000 but that doesn't sound right.... Anyhow I'm glad to hear this helped, but I've no idea on the parallelism, of I'd have to ask Jason haha. The guy I bought my first sled from said he always scuffed his clutches up with high grit sandpaper. I assume that's about the same thing, but might also remove material and wouldn't clean the internals at all.
@sledjason
@sledjason 3 года назад
Not 100% tbh... Manual just says if off to correct it but does not say how... Some googling indicates the order you torque down the motor mounts could influence it... Others say to shim certain mounts... Others say to slot where the mounts bolt down.
@ArcticJeff
@ArcticJeff 3 года назад
@@sledjason No worries, it is done by tweaking the motor mounts. I wouldn't worry about it, unless it keeps breaking belts. Then its something that will need to be looked at. The washing of the clutches (in the dishwasher) is good practice...seriously...google it.

Great video. I have a 2012 F1100 so this video is very interesting to me. Just bought mine, haven't ridden it yet. I bought a non-turbo because I heard about the belt lifespan's. How long were yours lasting? Is this new assembly just from a newer sled?
@SwankyCatProductions
@SwankyCatProductions 3 года назад
I should have explained that all a bit better lol. I'm not really sure what was up with mine but in the two thousand miles I've put it on it I've blown 3 belts. All of them when I was really pushing the sled. I'd recommend pulling your side cover and carefully touching both clutches and the belt after some normal riding to see how hot they are. Mine would get so hot you couldn't touch them at all. As I said before Im not really sure why this was but switching the secondary out was what Country Cat suggested since I was having issues. It could have been an alignment issue or something else but I figured I'd try this rather than buy the alignment tool for the old secondary and have that not actually be the issue. Let me know what you find!

Plastic ramps are different for 2 stroke and 4 stroke. Your donor clutch probably came from a 2 stroke sled.

I think it came off an XF9000 but I would guess that's enough of a change in hp to require them to be different.
@snoflite5234

@@SwankyCatProductions The difference between the 2 types is because of reverse. 4 stroke has gears, but 2 stroke does not, they change the motors rotation with a switch. One type allows the clutch to be run in backwards, one does not.

Just curious what you’ve been using for belts? I blew the original belt in my 12 XF 1100 on the last ride last year. Original belt made it over 5k. Knocking on wood I get the same mileage on the new one. Thinking of buying aftermarket now for the spare.

@@SwankyCatProductions okay, I got some guys looking at mine and turns out my bushings are gone in the secondary. Clutch would be little outta line that way. The problem on the RR is that the 2 clutches aren't always perfectly parallel. I added a free float secondary piece from country cat and removed the shim as directed. I blew belts like crazy because under pressure the secondary was staying tight to the bearing housing. I put the shim back in and it seems better.
