The American Heritage Museum is amazing! I spent the better part of a day there this past April with my cousins. Did you go to the Airplane Hanger? Most everything flies. The Armor collection is one of the best in the country.
Wow, that museum looks amazing. The curators and everyone involved in it can be justly proud of what they have achieved, awesome. It's a bit far for me to visit, I'm in the UK, so thanks for giving us this tour Hank. Take care and happy modeling.
Great museum, thanks, had no idea it existed the displays are very well done and I especially liked Hartmann's Me109g awesome restoration! Would love to visit USA one day to see it. My birthday is 4th July believe it or not so hope they roll out the red carpet for me if/when I do!
very proud to have been a small part in helping the AHM get going ! I was part of a group that helped cosmetically restore some of the tanks and move others. For 30 bucks, its entirely worth the cost!
Lets see… Where I live in OHIO… There’s a bunch of MUSEUMS WILLOW RUN, DETROIT the B-24 factory AMERICAN HERITAGE MUSEUM… In PORT CLINTON OHIO… Of course, THE AIR FORCE MUSEUM, in DAYTON OHIO… KALAMAZOO AIR ZOO in KALAMAZOO MICHIGAN… there’s quite a few small museums ( PRIVATE ) owners Around my area… The TANK MUSEUM on the INDIANIA / ILLINOIS border It’s on INDIANIA side… Yes, I watched this a few times CHRIS from OHIO 🇺🇸
That's definitely not the only Panther Ausf A in North America. There's a restored one on display in the Lebretton Gallery of the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa. There are 3-4 more in Ft. Benning GA.
WOW, I’m jealous… In INDIANIA , on the INDIANIA and ILLINIONES BORDER, there’s a museum called????? The ARMOR MUSEUM Correct me if I’m wrong I’ll watch this again… CHRIS from OHIO 🇺🇸
Thanks will have to place this on my bucket list. Seeing that I have put many a mile and road many more in an ARAAV M551 is one of my favorites. C trp 3rd sqn 7th Cav 3rd ID. Scouts Out! CAVU
The M1A1 on display there is from my Tank company Alpha Co 2nd Tank Battalion USMC while we were deployed to Iraq in 2006. Sgt G Ulloa was one of my Marines and was the Tank Commander of White 2 of 2nd Platoon. If you watch the video that plays near the Tank you will learn his story of how he was KIA Aug 3rd 2006. I was the Platoon Sergeant for 2nd Platoon during that deployment and George was one of my Marines. So that display has a very special meaning to me and remember each of the displays there have a story behind them. They are there to honor and serve as a reminder that brave men fought and lived on these vehicles, and they are not to be forgotten. Again all the thanks in the world to the Collins family for their hospitality to us on our visits there and their commitment to saving these awesome pieces of history. MSgt Michael Kadlub USMC Ret
Thank you for your service, sir - it's always a special moment when you make your way over to that side of the museum to look at the M1A1. Take care & be well.
Yep, the KALAMAZOO AIR ZOO… In KALAMAZOO… Has a bunch of NAVAL AIRCRAFT… pulled up out of LAKE MICHIGAN… I will be watching this again CHRIS from OHIO 🇺🇸 another great job….. CHRIS from OHIO 🇺🇸
Great video! I have some local favorites but the presentation of the artifacts at the one in your video is spectacular! I live in Austin and the local “Texas Military Forces Museum” is fantastic - esp their focus on the 36th Division- some great and large dioramas provide some great modeling inspiration- they put on good living history events The 45th Division museum in Oklahoma City is another favorite that I’ve seen often My all time favorite is probably the Flying Heritage and Combat Armor museum near Seattle which recently re-opened Great content as always, Hank!
Years ago when my sons were young, we took several day trips from Bucks County, PA, to Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. Truly memorable and unique events. There was a vast collection of captured, unrestored enemy armaments from WWI through Viet Nam. Probably the most complete collection in one place. They were unrestored, not protected from the weather, and suffered degradation from the elements and age(picture all the rotted and collapsed rubber tires and tracks). Imagine seeing a gigantic rail gun, V-2 rocket, and Nebelwerfer. Many of the armored vehicles showed the effects of anti-tank rounds. In addition there was a huge collection of US armor and vehicles. One cannot grasp the extent of the collection because much if not all has been dispersed to other bases. Maybe they will be restored? There was also a museum dedicated to small arms. A complete collection unseen elsewhere. Now a digression. This past winter my wife and I took a tour of SE Asia, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand. The Vietnamese were uniformly respectful, friendly and showed zero animosity towards Americans. Hanoi and HoChiMinh City(Saigon) are modern urban areas, the countryside is still very rural. We visited the Hanoi Hilton and it was somber. John McCain’s story was treated extremely respectfully, though the torture and deprivation of the prisoners was underplayed or not cited. Also visited CuChi tunnels. Saw much captured and abandoned US materiel . More bomb casings and mortar rounds than one can count. Overall an awesome and somber experience. One must remember that Vietnam is an authoritarian country and always be mindful of that fact. It is also sobering that with all the turmoil around the South China Sea that Vietnam may turn out to be one of our most dependable allies. 1972-74, I was a US Army CPT, stationed at Ft Carson. I was never in Vietnam before this last trip. .
My first visit there I was amazed to what they had on displayed. The second time was for the reenactment "Battle For The Airfield" weekend. The collection in the other buildings that are only open on special days are equally impressive. At the time I wasn't into modeling when I visited the museum. I got to ride in there B-17 two weeks before it went down.
Hi Hank. Tim all the wag from Townsville, North Queensland Australia. Great looking museum, im so lucky to live down the road from Australias best millitary museum, the Australian Armour and Artillary museum. I suggest you look it up, we are also very blest to have a running Panther tank here. It is the largest in the souther hemosphere. Keep up the great content, and good to see something away from the bench, could you have a beer there as gou walked around, ha ha ha....
If you had to pick the 5 best military museums in the country.....aside from the smothsonian and the air n S.....what would those 3 be? I prefer aircraft but love armor. I may do a motorhome roadie.
Hi Hank that was a fantastic tour of the AHM, thanks for the tour, I would like to visit one dat, as they say, dreams are free and the government can't tax our dreams, well not yet, best regards from Australia 👍👍👍👍
The Hetzer 38t is a post war tank from Switzerland as you can see by the rear wheel. But most Hetzers in museums are Swiss Army Hetzers with changed (or not) rear wheel.
@@newlife-su7sd I've been there. These are all the real thing. The M4A3E2 "Jumbo" Sherman they have there has visible Panzerfaust damage to the front glacis. Jumbos were rare enough -- the fact that they have a real one with visible battle damage is remarkable.
That was an awesome video of the museum. Ive been there and it is the best one I have ever been to. Ive been to the Patton Museum at Fort Knox but that was back in the 80's not sure what it looks like now but the American Heritage Museum is set up so well. Im glad I live about an hour away and plan on many visits in the near future.
The museum at Knox has been dismantled for the most part, I think everything has been to moved to FT Moore (formerly known as Ft Benning). I was at Knox about 10 or 12 years ago, and that was the case then. Kind of sad actually.
Hank.. excellent job on this video, in my opinion.. I actually volunteer there and was the guy on the knee scooter in the first part of the video.. bum ankle... sigh..
Great tour! Thank you and plan to visit some day. I’ve been to the Imperial War Museum in London twice and it is fantastic. This one in Boston has many exhibits that seem to be on par or even better 👍
I've been to the Aberdeen Proving Grounds military museum - a fantastic collection of WW-II AFVs. This collection is even more impressive, due to its wider range of subjects if nothing else. Thanks for the tour!
You should go and see all of the tanks at the fort benning armor museum, it’s not the actual main museum outside the entrance, but it’s a big building with the rarest and 1 of a kind tanks in the world
I just visited this past Friday. The collection is absolutely breathtaking. It's especially nice that the interiors of the vehicles are on display and nicely lit as interior photos can be difficult to find online.
