In the truck's defense, neither the Traxxas UDR or any version of the Losi Baja Ray have multi speed transmissions or selectable 2wd and 4wd. So that would add a bit to the cost. But mounting the ESC up where it can get some air around it is pretty damn genius. It definitely has some solid ideas in it and seems to be fairly durable based on your running video.
I have a hammer rey and man in canada its almost 850 so i could only imagine what losi or traxxas would price either line up at if they had the selectable high/low and selectable 2wd
You can get the 2 speed one for 300 pounds off ali and the one without the 2 speed gearbox is only 230 pounds and now losi have bought out new baja rey 2.0 the parts with fit the Chinese truck I have just ordered the SG1002SE
Yeah, trophy trucks have insanely soft and long suspension travel. I absolutely love watching slow mo footage of trophy trucks in the desert. Complete respect to the engineering behind that.
@@prod.twnt2153 I wanted to do mechanical engineering, but the math aspect of it just wasn't for me. I can't wrap my head around numbers. I know the mechanics and physics through experience as a mechanic and a general fascination with anything mechanical.
That's why it's expensive. It's well engineered and has a unique transmission setup that I haven't seen on anything yet. The price really seems reasonable to me..... For what you get
Great video! 👌 I always enjoy your simple, effective video editing and soundtrack choice for your videos, keep them coming! I do believe though, it would be interesting to see the a bit more of the "inside" of the cars. I know some bodies are a pain to remove, but that really helps people get a better idea of what your showing them and it's quality. For example, I immediately thought you'd show the "3-way" gearbox, and that cool ESC more in depth. Just mho! Nice little truck! I wonder why the solid rubber tyres... 🤔 Cheers! 😃👍
Great overall review! Can't wait to see the changes when the UDI version comes out. In last 3 shots in your montage, the composition was just incredible!! 🤘😎
8:25am here in Arkansas USA on this gorgeous saturday morning!! Mornin Tomley! My man knows I gotta watch those $$$ Thanks Tomley!! Keep em coming! I'll buy you a couple coffees soon ole top.
That's an awesome looking rig! Honestly I don't think the price is really that bad. It's a very unique looking truck and that transmission setup is epic. I don't know of any other Baja trucks built like that within that price range. If you do, let me know what they are
You're right, if it were around 400 dollars it would be reasonable. Its very packed with features, i wouldn't even mind its kind of slow for it's class. But at 530 or so dollars, those things are going to just sit in some warehouse somewhere. That price puts you within striking distance of just deciding to get a Mojave, or a fully loaded slash 4x4 .
I won't be buying one at that price tag but I've been waiting to see a review on this for ages because, in my opinion, it's one of the nicest looking desert trucks I've seen..
Agreed 💯 i live in the USA, so it’s about $520 to my door, nah. I will wait till it’s like $350-$375 ship to front door. Maybe a year or 6 months from now…or longer 😂 . Nice looking RC, great job Phil😉👍🏼💯
Really?? it's has loads of metal parts an a functional transmission an good amount of detail an tough put into it an you some lights.. compared to the $900 plastic UDR ... IDK seem fair Ps. I own a UDR an this definitely has me a intrigued...
@@jamesgreenwood6959 i definitely think it’s a great looking and durable RC, just not for me. For that price there a lot of other options, (maybe a company that has tech support & parts support, plus a lot of hop up parts sold All over) that’s all. My 2 cents 😉👍🏼💯
@@jamesgreenwood6959 Metal isn't automatically better than plastic, especially when it doesn't specify what alloy it is so its probably all chinesium pot metal. I would way rather have high quality plastics (like Traxxas, Tamiya, and Kyosho are famous for using) over some cheap zinc or tin alloy pot metal
As Phil noted, it's nearly the price of a Losi Baja Rey (the 1/10th, which is a total looker... AND performer), so it's a no brainer for me. Losi wins. If this Chinese were around the $300 mark, though...
those damn EverGreen & EverGiven cargo ships cost us ALL a buttload of increased shipping cost. i'm almost wondering if companies are gouging shipping rates like the petrol companies are by the litre.(notice i used UK friendly terminology) whaaat? Cheers from Texas!
That to me is actually an amazing truck, considering it's two wheel drive and four wheel drive as well. I'm not so sure the big name brand has that feature. I would put some thicker oil in the rear shocks.
As a Baja Rey mint 400 edition owner I can say they do not have the cool esc-radiator thing like that. That is one really cool truck, but from what I’m seeing as far as suspension, tires and electronics and what not goes it is definitely not as good as the BR. The trans is definitely pretty sweet tho
Pretty cool that it has selectable high/low speed 4wd. I think the 2wd option is probably rather useless, I would rather see a lock/unlock diff setting or get rid of the third option all together to help bring down the price. All in all, it really does seem like a nice vehicle.
Been waiting for a review of this for a while now! That price is insane! Without part availability I think I’d just go with a Mojave or Senton. Very cool though
My Senton definitely drives better. The toy grade features really cloud the cool ideas implemented in this car. They're just toy grade mimics of those of a hobby grade car. The handling looked terrible. The price doesn't cover half of it. Definitely not worth $500...not even $300.
It appears to control the solid rear axle/trailing arm , donkey kick quite well.A dumbo rc with giro and a quick flash hobby 35 kg servo will sort it out no end ,
Even if it’s expensive, still looks pretty good to have, but for $500+, I rather get myself an HPI WR8 Flux Rally car for that price. Hopefully in the near future, the price will probably drop down at least around the $300 price range.
It’s pretty slick with the esc and the transmission. 300 would be a good deal. But 600 after tax is crazy. It’s is a cool truck though. Aftermarket parts would be hard to find or a long wait
The bar across the rear is a spare drive shaft 👍 I think it looks decent to be fair. Import costs can't be helped, but given the choice of this or a Slash 4wd and I'd pick this.
Nice looking truck and seems to run well but that fancy gear box at those speeds even though it’s only 35mph would worry me. I see a lot of maintenance with a setup like that.
The speed rc trophy trucks are only 1:14 and 150.00 but they do 40 mph as advertised on its box. Its the first rc ive seen that actually truly achieves speed on box right out box. Id reccomend it to anyone over this. I have a review of it on my YT.
It needs to be softer more droop , trophy trucks have tons of droop, the suspension needs to sit about in the middle of the travel . Other then the price I like it.
its a shame about the price Phil m8 id get it if it was at the 300 Dollars but the price it is for us id go for a Losi. But it does look awesome kickin up the dirt, great video m8
Love the look and idea of the truck, but... - Tires are too stiff as you can see from the bouncing around - Handling looks terrible for a truck with dual suspension and a gyro - It nose-dives off nearly every jump in the video, even the small ones - Can't find replacement parts anywhere, even off AliExpress - It's a bit too expensive However, it was a great video. Thanks Tomley!
500 bucks?!? Just get a Traxxas. I have two Traxxas from 2010 (13 years ago). 1/10 Slash VSL & 1/16 Revo VXL. Both run like new. Both have no damage (yes, they have tons of scratches, but no cracks or major actual damage). They work amazing, waterproof, and long lasting. I'm no Traxxas fanboy. I just have these 2 I bought years ago. But I beat them hard, and they have only needed new gears a couple times due to me running 3S though them hard. On 2S they are basically damage proof and still fast as crap.
Is it really 1/10th? Doesn't look like it. Tell ya what, that's a lot of hardware. I'm not sure that price isn't appropriate. I'd give her a go. Pinion, tire change. Why not? Good review 👍
@@PrinXessDime that's interesting, I would've went rhe other way. Closer to a 1/8th. Think the UDR is a 1/7th and those shocks are straight aftermarket UDR. I have a set on a build. 1/12 would make it smaller than a Slash.

Price aside, it's a fun looking truck. I worry that there are too many "features" on this truck that could break and parts would be hard to come by. Take Care!
I love your videos, but my issue with the cheap RCs from China is part availability, if you break something that you don't have a spare you're down for 3-4 weeks, I bought a ZDRacing DBX10 for my son I do have some spares but he's broken 2 shocks and those were just a pain to get, and him asking if his parts came in every days was so ARGH!
It's a great looking truck, and a shame about the inflated costs to get it to the UK!! How does this compare with the FTX Zorro? (I know the Zorro doesn't have the switchable drive!!). 😎👍🏻
I'll go for the losi 1/10 baja rey if it's at the same price. There are awesome features like the variable gearbox and working radiator cooling fans. But overall it's just not good for the price.
I've told you before.... Get out of my bloody head Tomley.! It never fails, I see something that piques my interest.... Then shortly afterwards you have it on your channel.... LOL... Seriously though, cheers mate, thanks for the awesome videos, you're killing in.! Stay safe out there & best wishes from Scotland 🏴 🙏 ❤️ 📻 🕹️ 🔋 🚗 🚖 🚕 🚔 🚚 🚙 🚘 🚓 🚒 🚑 🚐 🚎 🚤 🚁 🛩️.!
nice vid! and ya, like most people will comment on is the price. i hope that you're enjoying your time in France with the family and thanks for making videos while you are away. cheers and thank you again. see you in the next one!
if they stocked this in EU/US warehouses and sold it for 300, i'd already own one. at that price, plus import duties etc, i'd rather get a Losi Baja for less (even though all things being equal, i think i'd rather have this one 'cause of the cool features it has)
'Tis a bit expensive, bordering on Traxxas prices. But it does run similar-ish levels of tech. 2speed box plus 4wd or 2wd. Steering probably just needs a faster servo. But actually, the low-ish grip from the tires seemed to prevent more tipovers, if you see what I mean. The long travel suspension needs that softness, and seems to handle quite well. I've been running my Rustler and MT10 on a somewhat bumpy and lumpy disused pitch and putt course, and I reckon something like this would go well there.
to be fair, if those characteristics were on an ARMMA or TRAXXAS would cost 2 times this thing..like it but the price is stopper.. ( mate i would like to see more about the selective 2 wheel drive..not the most complete presentation)
It took me all Day to finally get through this video! So many interruptions😆! I really like this truck. I’d buy one if the price shipped to my door was $300-$350. $600… no way in H E double hockey sticks😂. It looks great! Heavier shock oil or a drop or 3 of Lucas in the shocks and I think the suspension would react the way they should. I really do like this. Why can’t another company copy it or rebrand it like they always do? Maybe make it ship it at the price it should be. Love the details like the back up shocks and the esc / fan coolers. Nice touches!🔥🔥🔥it’s a winner in my book, but not at this price point! Thanks for sharing! Curious… did you pay full price or was this one given to you to review?
I glad you reviewed this but still on the expensive side imo. I would have like to have seen some different graphics & not just copying the ones on the SG1603 😎👍🏻
Hey @tomley rc I just learned you are retiring from the military. I was unaware that you were a veteran. Welcome to retirement from one soldier to another.
It's a pre-runner and it looks great 👍 👌 but yes definitely new wheels and tires but for the money it's not worth it unfortunately that shipping doubles the cost of the product 😒
That's what's been going on with shipping to Canada. An RGT is listed as $372 CDN + $214 shipping....OR $309 shipping included via Aliexpress. It depends on who you order from.
This short course looks good but as a Baja Rey owner I think this truck doesn't make commercial sense. They have made a slower copy than the original Baja Rey with a quality and reliability to prove when we already know that the Losi is really robust, a support of parts that is not known as it will be when Horizonte Hobby is well established at an almost equal price. I can think of no reason neither to buy it nor to recommend its purchase.
Im thinking of saving up for one of these,I mean they look amazing and here in Germany I can get the kit version for 245€ inclusive shipping.still not sure if I should go for this or the kyosho outlaw rampage pro which only is rwd
All the trucks in it's price range don't have high and low and I don't know any trucks with the options of 4wd or red shy of the trx4/6 and they are crawlers. I'd love to retrofit that trans into some of my current line up
$300 is a decent price $530 😆🤣😂 NO WAY IN HELL. 🤦 It is a cool truck with cool features though just way over priced IMO. Fun watching ya rip around Tomley 🔥👍✌️
Not a bad looking truck. For the price 😬😬😬.....as you said, there are name brand cars/trucks with a much better part support out there. If it were an 1/8 scale, the price would match but not for a 1/10 scale. "This one's gonna be a no for me, dog." Lol! Great video as always sir 👍
There some really neat “thinking out of the box”features. For instance the ESC idea is brilliant! But the hard tires and poor shock performance makes me hesitate adding it to my stable. It almost like some toy grade features were deliberately included because all the design dept’s work had to be included on this hobby/ toy grade, toy! Seems like a $500 r/c car full of contradictions! I don’t even want to think about replacement parts!! I own a TRX4 and don’t think I could live w/o a two speed trans and even locking diffs. And I trust a name brand. The operation of this rig looks sub par. It looked squirrely and it was wiping out alot. A head to head comparison would confirm it as s fast toy grade model. Thx for the vid
I've been waiting for review, mate. I'm so interest it;s mini UDR styling and Functions. Given that it is for sell around $350 from china, do you think it's a good deal for value?
The small one handles bad too if ask me adding power makes them Interesting probably slow servo not helping matters not sure I'm sold on this rendition tho.
Too bad about the price. Because I really like it. Guess I better win the lotto. Also mate, your test area. Looks just like Arizona. Minus the 120 degree weather.
I guess you gave it a fair review . Its a lot of car for a chinese car its not a complete UDR ripoff because have unique features . The price as you say is the reason this car cannot be a huge seller.if this sold for 280 it would have gave Slash a hard time .
