Sir, I am 57 years old. Do you realize what you bring to the table? You are showing people what it takes to make it. And you will make it. You sir are pure American, we keep pushing forward and we make a way. Thank you for your videos Terry in North Carolina
It has nothing to do with being "American" 😂 you need to turn off fox fake news and open your eyes. Literally every single country in the world has people that work hard and overcome far more than the hurdles we face in America. Pull your head out of the sand
Man coming from someone who has been a manager for years. You are absolutely doing this right, find yourself Atleast 4 people you would trust with that business if you died. Pay them well, keep the atmosphere as positive as possible and your life will be a lot less stressful keep up the amazing work Luke you’ve got this
When you run out of deck space but still have another 50 or 75 pots to collect, you can pull a platform on pontoons (a water trailer) behind your boat. You need an operator on the platform to run a small outboard to keep it under control and to receive the handoff of pots from the Southern girl. It can get kind of complicated, but it saves a ton of diesel and time. we used a similar setup in the Gulf
Brother, i found you videos on RU-vid shorts. While finding sobriety!! I binged watching you for the last 9 days and i just wanted to say thank you for providing such raw content
Ok bud, big idea here. That whole clean down setup is a nightmare, batteries, residential electrical, no GFIs, no water resistance. Eliminate it all. Get a small generator or gas powered pressure washer and wash them down on the boat. You can pull water with a hose and a filter straight from the side of the boat. That whole corner has a bunch of space without the heater and everything to do plenty. Go self enclosed system and eliminate the electrical/leaky disaster waiting to burn up your boat. Greetings from Indian River Bay DE crab team
My guess is the pump motor is burning out by overheating. Running continuous duty in the enclosed bilge with the water temp being mid 80s is causing an issue with overheating.
I think the whole heater/sump/overflow system is just way too complicated with too many fail spots, and sumps in general pull a ton of amperage usually for those golf cart batteries. It’s probably either pressure wash, or dunk hot to remove the grime..one or the other. My vote’s for a quick spray and reload..I don’t think it’ll create any more water than he already has running over everywhere haha. We don’t drop for 4+ days and turn ours every 24 hrs so we rarely get build up like that but less complications on board is always better mechanically and electrically for everyone imo. Make a knee wall maybe in that corner with FRP and have a dedicated spray spot with a backsplash, heated pressure washer would be 10/10!
What temperature does your engine run vs. what temp is needed to clean the pots? If your engine temp is sufficient, try re-routing the cooling water discharge from the engine to the wash tank and eliminate the burner and pump situation all together. Keep up the good work man. We enjoy the vids!
The only issue is that the wash tank is super hot and has to maintain that temp while the engine water would have to be cycled through the tank and out to the bay so it would only retain the heat from the engine which is likely just a bit too low for this job. If the tank water could be cycled through an independent radiator and back into the tank, then it could work to reduce the load on the heater at least but that's some extra equipment on a purpose made boat with little extra room so the tradeoff has to be valuable.
The raw water wouldn’t be hot enough but he has a heater. It would be just used as a pump. If the engine is running you have water. Shaft seal may not like it if it’s water cooled

On our boat when we clean pots we use a propane powered dip tank. We just use buckets to fill up the tank and the propane heats up the tank. Works great and highly recommend it. All it cost is half a propane tank a day
It's simple dear Watson.marine diesel heaters use the heat exchanger discharge water to heat boats. Use it to you're steamer. Should generate the proper heat 175+
I feel for buddy. We king crab and snow crab up here in Barron Alaska. You love it up here. 😊😊😊our high temp in summer is 48 to 52. Winter. Low temp -35😮😮😮😮
Thank you for the beautiful sunrise. It brings me back to being a kid when we would go stay with grandpa in south Louisiana and we spent every min we could in the gulf and on the mermentau river. Never can forget that smell and the wind blowing thru as we headed to the fishing spots. I wasn’t too big on fishing but I loved being out there
Hey, Luke, I worked for a production boatbuilder and we had failures with those Jabsco pumps when mounted horizontally. If you have room try mounting vertically and see how it goes. Always enjoy your videos!! Steve in RI
Summer of '01 to summer '03 I worked on the Miss Linda out of chesapeake beach md. We got paid 1 dollar a pot to pressure wash them every day after we were done hauling. BUT even your dirtiest pot isn't even close to the ones we were washing. Back then the only way to clean them was to pressure wash so the crabbers waited until there were barnacles and stuff growing on them before they'd haul them in and have them cleaned. They were so bad you could barely see through them. Which makes them even heavier and messier when you have to move and stack them when you're cleaning them. Me and my buddy would clean about 300 a day for 2 or 3 of the days of fishing over the week and split the money. Unfortunately fall of '03 hurricane isabel sank the Miss Linda in the marina and the captain never got her back on the water.
You have reached the point where you have to bite the bullet and spend the money to get some propper stuff.. constant breakdowns and failures are costing way more than you would spend getting new gear....
@@toe-moss1609naw the whole point is to catch crabs And it’s a worth while investment, a good wash down pump for bout $500, no reason to do all that work to set something up when you’re working with old equipment, that’s setting yourself up for failure
Luke my man, this whole month is like that. Dude, be glad that you are healthy and young. Be of good courage my Brother, or"you ain't no crabber". You Sir are blessed beyond comparison. Lyndsey has your back, and so do I.❤😊
Get a jabsco mechanical pump and run it off that 3208 with a belt and you can use a ball value to turn it on or off if you want..i used a 1 inch pump as a washdown pump on my crab boat. They make em in different sizes for you need. So wherever boat was running i had lots of water and they last for like forever.
You so totally sound like an independent truck driver, like my self, the struggles are the same, incredibly the same. Bro, hang in there, as you always do. You are so creative, and positive. Keep the faith, never accept defeat, and "Party on Garth!'.
@@TulanePass Yeah he would definitely be time ahead to just get some decent stuff and put it together properly. And then time ahead puts you money ahead.
Glad you made progress with the cooker. Heater outlet temp is a combination of water flow rate and burner temp. I think you are right running a fixed speed pump at reduced flow increases the load and can cause them to fail or trip.
You could use a submersible pump and a 5 gallon bucket overboard. You might be dead-heading the pump because of an intake restriction. You could use that method to power wash the pots out on the water. BTW Luke take me crabbing one week. I live in Baltimore and have a season of experience working on a crab boat.
Enjoyed the video! Life's like a rollercoaster, with its ups and downs. Sometimes you gotta go through a bunch of rough days before the good ones come along. But hey, it's all just part of the journey to becoming a stronger person. And when those good days finally arrive, boy do they feel extra sweet! You're doing what you wanted as a kid, I wish I could do that. Hopefully this week is better!
The burner issue was most likely a safety shutoff, carbon buildup, or fuel regulator issue. What might be a lot more simplistic and reliable is a propane instant water heater used for RVs. They get hot as heck, work very well, and come with the properly sized pump that is easily replaceable. Once more it will take up less space.
I use bigger version of the same Beckett oil burner on my 8gpm commercial pressure washing rig, the igniter can be the problem, but 90% of my issues with that burner were lack of battery power or charge. If battery is weak or too small, the igniter wont fire and the pump will keep dumping diesel into the coil and if the igniter decides to fire again, it can burn down your boat. Neard many stories of pressure washing rigs and trucks burning down from that. They make small 4gpm hot water pressure washers. Maybe thats the route u should take
I watch from Ireland. You Sir are a warrior. Success falls from your feet when you walk. Best of luck repairing your new boat. This attack is evidence that these people see the champion I (and all good people) see. Keep on rocking in the free world.
Luke, you're a great guy. I love all you do and cheer for you to one day win. You need a first mate who runs your business when you are doing something else someone runs your boat and the crew.
Hey bud idk if you know this or not but when our pots get dirty we dip them in pool chemicals and it shocks all the alive stuff and kills it. We just get a vat and fill it with water and bleach and pool shock and them chemicals kill the grass on the pots it sucks and will burn your skin if u touch it but it works and its way way easier then what your trying to do. Just wanted to let you know. It will definitely help you out man. May be a lil illegal but just dont get caught lol idk if it is or not but thats what everyone in nc does literally every boat does it and we just dip one week outta the month, usually after you dip them it takes a while for them to get back dirty
Hey Luke, nothing for nothing but those bilge pumps aren’t made to run continuously. You’re going to burn them out and you’ll be back to square one You ain’t no crabber if you’re not burning out pumps. Work smart and not hard. Keep up the great work.
MAYBE U COULD PUT A BYPASS Y ON YOUR HOT WATER MOTOR TUBE ,,WITH A WATER FAUCET OR ADJUSTABLE VALVE TO TAP OFF WATER ,,THATS ALREADY BEING PUMPED BYE YOUR POWER PLANT
Daaaaaaamn that's a nice switch collection. I understand that a certain level of hoarding is part of the job, but that's not a hoard, those drawers are valuable. Those suckers aren't inexpensive and overnighting them from McMaster-Carr is NOT CHEAP!
Luke, Outsource your editing, and maybe teach your lady friend how to do it? You can also rely on your team to run the sales. YOU need to keep the boat and operation alive. THAT'S the heart of all you do and should have your full attention and focus.
I think his wife has a full-time job from I understand (I could be wrong), but I do agree that he is only one person so things are getting out of hand; workload wise
You’re a diy guy. Here’s how to make a water chiller cheap. Buy a used water cooler for 5gal water. Open it up. Pull styrofoam of coils. Plqce a 5 gallon bucket under coils. This sits in the water cooler. Drill hole in bottom. Now buy 3/4” coupling. And 2- 3/4” males. The hole in bucket will be 1”. Now plqce male inside bucket. Cut piece inner tube for gasket. Or an o ring. Screw coupling in front to seal. Tighten. Now add water line. And pump. If the cooler sits below your reservoir u can gravity feed over flow. U can adjust temp by water cooler. Works damn good!! Works for years. Second option. Window ac. You can pull the cooling coil from u it. Not much. But it can be moved. Now u can place the coil in actual reservoi. Ther u go. Cheap water cooler.
We don't have Blue crab up here in the Pacific North West, but we do have Dungeness, Rock, and Tanner. They're measured not to the point tip, but at the base of the tip. Dungeness minimum.. 6 1/4" (female only & hardshell) Rock.. 5" (either sex & hardshell) Tanner.. 4 1/2" (same as rock) Biggest Dungeness that I have pulled up was over 9 inches. Though I have seen 10+ inches decades ago
In regards to your water pump issue we do in Alaska. We have a secondary water pump that has a diaphragm in it pulls the seater and pushes it to our system. You could put a secondary water pump that’s belt. Just gotta make some brackets and it will push anywhere to 110 towards 120 psi to your little system
In the oil filed we use anti seize as a thread sealant, it works to water tight fittings of all materials and makes them come apart when you need it. We never use thread tape or pipe dope anymore because it never wants to come off and you just break fittings.
I will never understand people and their malicious intentions or lack of respect. I’m a tradesman in the hardwood flooring industry(I sand and refinish old ass floors or new ones) and I have similar issues from time to time with someone making your day harder with their the lack of experience and knowledge. Keep truckin hun!
Luke when I was younger, I was a HVAC technician and I have worked a few Hot Water systems in people's homes. Occasionally pump impellers stop working and the following links I provided are used for hot water use. The pumps run on 120 volts so you would need something which provides this power for the pumps to operate. One of them has a stainless-steel housing. Offhand I am not sure which is more compatible with salt water. The others are cast iron. This just may get your hot water cleaning system operational.
Not sure if it’s been said or not, but you need a continuous duty relay to correctly run that pump to keep it from over heating. Great vid, keep it up!
YOU ARE THE MAN BROTHER , I LOVE AND WATCH ALL YOUR VIDEOS , DONT CHANGE A THING AND KEEP THEM COMING..! We appreciate your hard work and content it’s hilarious
In my boat the water heater has to heat scource options - cooling water and electric heating. When running the engine, the hot cooling water runs through a coil in the water heater like a heat exchanger to warm up the standing water in the water heater. The water in the water heater gets really hot from this system. I would for shure tap into the cooling water circuit and use the hot water from that. But the Diesel engine, exhaust elbow still needs a flow of water to cool down the exhaust. You figure this out...
Probably won’t see this but we run 12v pumps all day for our maple syrup operation. We use a Honda 664240 EU2200i and it’s an amazing little machine. The way I see it you spent the price of that generator in time trying to fix your setup(who hasn’t/wouldnt) in your application I wouldn’t suggest using the 12v dc all day but a 120-12 inverter will work perfectly for this. No more batteries just a super reliable little generator. Keep in mind I’m a land dweller I know marine is more complicated
It might be a big cost, but I think you should maybe paint your pots with anti-foulent paint. It would last probably 4 or more before the pots start getting dirty. We used it when we were crabbing in the Delaware Bay. I didn't like dipping pots in it, but dirty pots don't catch crabs.
Don't forget to go to local auctions for parts and pieces too. I can't tell you how many parts I've collected and shocked by what I use over the decades
Just hanging on a pull-up bar for sets of 30sec to a min is amazing for shoulder rotator cuff issues. I have first had experience w how well it helps!!!
have you thought about putting a small two foot hollow extension on the back of the boat, move the transom back with it. Hollow completely sealed to give you more buoyancy? That will help so much and keep you skinny water as well. Help with the weight you can handle and more. I would be some fiberglass work for sure but I am certain you can do it.
Consider getting one of the Milwaukee tool m18 pumps- even if just to have on boat as a backup that can swap in with a couple hose fittings.. might not be a long term solution but could possibly get you thru if there is a breakdown- those little m18 pumps are workhorses-. Also consider getting one of those ecoflo or jackets battery backup generators so you can run a 120v pump instead of those 12v. If you got a big enough battery generator- maybe even a small solar panel I bet you could go all day long pumping
When you mentioned wanting to use engine cooling water? I thought that a ram pump might be the ticket for that purpose. It has head pressure for pushing through the burners coil and it releases back pressure as it pumps
Possibly a Marine Air Conditioner water pump would do the trick. They are magnetic and designed to run a long time at decent pressure. I’m sure you got it figured out by now though. Thanks for showing the struggle as well as success 👍👍
Sometimes being creative with what you have is a gift. What is a huge gift is knowing when to buy once cry once and have it done right. As a young business owner myself. I’ve learned that sometimes you gotta pay the big bucks to have a new reliable system to avoid all this mess.
For inshore lobstering, we used to use a dip tank with some heating coils that we'd connect to the cooling system and use waste engine heat... that or a 55 gal drum with 4 gals of bleach mixed in, hooked to a small on-demand water pump for pleasure boat sinks. We could do about 200 lobster pots with 55gals of water n' bleach.
Luke, a guy that I used to work for used to say” Some days we eat the steak and some days we eat the fat”. You’re gonna have some of those days that turn into weeks. Keep plugging away at it. You’re doing great dude. Much love from NC
You might want to look into getting some PYI hose clamps. They're not cheap, but they're 100% 316 stainless steel, and non perforated. I use them on my car where T bolt clamps aren't needed.
The ups are never as good without the lows. My hats off to you....I would lose my shit like a shit collector with amnesia dealing with everything that entails producing content WHILE other problems are popping up.

If you have an extra freezer try freezing salt water blocks to drop in your live pots if they are hot I'm just trouble shooting with you Luke at this point I'll try anything to keep them cool
I use to work at a bait shop and we had and held live lobsters, I could be wrong but that “junk” on the bottom is actually good if it’s filtered well. You can also get ammonia test strips to test the water occasionally. Although I don’t see this being an issue because you have it constantly changing the water.
In regards to your water pump issue we do in Alaska. We have a secondary water pump that has a diaphragm in it pulls the seater and pushes it to our system. You could put a secondary water pump that’s belt. Just gotta make some brackets and it will push anywhere to 110 towards 120 psi to your little system why do you not use a line scraper it hooks right up to the side of your vessel and the line goes through it and scrapes it as you pull
Luke, for now couldn’t you use a small like inverter generator like a honda 2200 to run a 120v pump? Let it run the burner too. Thats how bigger comercial boats run continuous duty pumps is with a generator. But I think you can mount a belt driven on the motor somewhere and just let it be separate from the cooling system. Third option would be to add another big alternator and keep the pump battery and alternator as a separate system. Low voltage will make a 12v pump heat up from the inside. The more flow on pumps is more load so it causes more heat to pump water overboard. Keep up the good work.
