@@dindrmindr626 Check the newest one. You should get exactly the same kind of performance as on vanila version. Remember - I haven't increased the size of any textures only changed their look. :)
What is sad, and says a lot about ED, is that ED has not achieved this in all their years of existence. Once published or issued, like so many developers, ED just forgets about it and moves on.
Thanks for the heads up. Downloading right now. And I agree, if only ED gave the Caucasus some more love. Trees are too large and mess up with your sensation of speed, urban areas look a bit meh, villages are missing, etc. Airfields look outdated like you said. This map has so much potential.
Funnily enough, half of the airfields in the caucasus maps looks very different, or simply does not exist (anymore?) Furthermore some cities are have expanded in size (I think?). This might be due to the downtime between current real life caucasus and DCS released caucasus. For example anapa is in DCS a full on airbase, but IRL it looks like a standard small airport, but the airbase infrastructure could be removed right? Well i highly doubt they have fully rebuilt an entire airbase into a small civilian airport with even destroying the shelters. Novorossyisk airbase simply does not exist anymore, currently there is a large neighborhood on the original place of the airport. Gelendzhik is now engulfed with houses, the airport is still there, but it is in the middle of an neighborhood.
This mod looks crazy good, I installed it along with the Syria V2 tree mod, they did really good on these maps. It's like re-painting an old house: It remain the same but at the same time looks much more fresh and overall much better
Wow! I thought these textures looked great! Winter-less was very impressive. I have to say there is def a special place in my DCS heart for this map! Great video!!
This mod and Taz1004 better trees mod are the best Caucasus MODS to date. Taz1004 now has a 15GB core files update that reduces video ram usage and in some cases can increase FPS.
Love it. Looks like the Prairies of Canada. I agree with Iceman3565 ❤ comments. Pay up DCS and provide to your clientele what they deserve, we would probably pay for the upgrade.🎉
Love the ending sequence especially the rocket science! It'd be so great if you can share some things about the rocket lofting technique! It's much harder to test and measure in jet speeds than in helicopters...
This is great work, without doubt - it looks amazing. However, modding can be quite a barrier to many without a native mod manager - I am not sure about this, but I take it that every time there is an DCS update, if you don’t use a mod manager, then you are going to have to replace these map files again - happy to be corrected if not the case. My other thought is using this in multiplayer - first is the integration check, but I am going to assume that is ok - the 2nd point about multiplayer is that if your map look significantly different to what other players may be seeing - and this mod does make it look brilliant - the issue you may start to have is describing where something, like a ground target is; so, for example,in the new winter map, you may be tempted to refer to visual cues based on the great looking snow ‘patches’ in a field - that is not going to mean anything to another player who does not have Bartek’s map loaded. These are minor points and I don’s want to diminish this excellent work, but I do want to highlight the need for better, built in mod management for DCS - like Arma for example - that can be a barrier for people to enjoying this excellent work.
Yes all very fair points! Better still would be if ED just improved the default map so that nobody needed to use a mod to make it look better! And yes it's a bit painful replacing the files without a mod manager. There are a few around to be fair that people use for DCS and apparently those work pretty well. And apparently it doesn't pass IC for MP :(
is there anyway to install it without the need of a mod manager? Can't find any up to date JSGME install guides as they all say "No longer works" on the forums and OVGME I cant wrap my head around.
In multiplayer, you'd be at a disadvantage using the "snow less" textures when your opponents have full snow, making it easier to spot you; and more difficult for you to spot him. Thanks for bringing this mod to my attention; definitely going to download tonight and will choose the "snow full" version. I'm hoping there's no IC issues 🤞
Can you make a video on how you installed this mod? Ive tried the mod manager and it didnt seem to work. You mentioned replacing original files, but i didnt see those either
a rework of the caucasus textures would be nice. I used a lot of texture mods back in the day but it does not pass the IC in MP so I need to give it a pass.
Any mods out there trying to address the lack of cities and roads from Crimea going north? Textures are awesome and well deserved of praise but the complete the update we’ll need ground features 😁
usage of reshade is what stuck out the most initially.. would love to see a comparison on a level playing field, aka both using reshade or non using reshade..
As nice as new textures are (and it's huge work and huge upgrade), geography and buildings need an overhaul as well. Georgia is far richer in geography and architecture than in DCS, for example it's sheer drop rocky cliffs (which have been smoothed into hills on the current map) and ancient fortresses are all missing, and it's cities are not all filled with soviet style buildings but instead have lot of traditional medieval buildings built out of bright stones. I would also like the map be expanded a bit north to include detailed southern Ukraine and Crimea which already exist on the map but are low in detail.
Looks great in summer and spring/fall, but it really needs to have a winter version as well with the ground fully covered in snow. Winter is my favorite setting to fly in and with this mod it is completely gone. Hopefully he is working on a fully snow covered winter setting then I would switch over to this if it is compatible with multi player.
The mod does have a fully snow covered winter version as I explained in the video. The "snowless" winter is an additional download if you want that, but you can stick with the fully covered snow terrain with this mod too :)
While it looks beautiful, I have to say I'm not a big mod guy, it puts more pressure on the CPU, with my potato machine, it's not a good thing, and the hassle of constantly replacing the files every time there is an update is a bit much for me. It would be nice if ED could do more work, but I will say, they are working pretty hard as it is, so I can't realistically expect that much more form them. I am hoping the Vulcan API to allow a complete change and improvement that reduces the impact of the CPU and graphics card because it uses different technology and look forward for things to look much better.
Yes but they will use the opportunity to up the graphics even more with Vulcan so I think we'll always be forced to stick with good PCs to take advantage of it all :)
@@rwhunt99 Yeah, the reality is we need beefy machines to get the most out of the visuals in DCS. This mod looks great...but I would be more interested in checking out the performance difference because what people forget about the Syria map, and what the SA map is going through....is optimization. We all remember how Syria was darn near unplayable for a lot of people while it was optimized, and I have friends who I fly with that basically were forced to upgrade their machines to use that map. Also, I fly in VR and again, while these new textures look great, if they shimmer and break VR then for me, it's a no show. The third thing, are they multiplayer friendly? I do a lot of MP so that would be a no go if they are not. I know...I could download and try, but I don't want to do that if it's just going to not work for me and then restore.
About file management, why not try out mod managers like OvGME or OpenMod Manager? One click to disable Barthek's mod before patching the game, then one click to enable it. Been doing it for years.
@@Haribo211 Yeah, I've used it (OVGME) before, but I just don't like to make things any more complicated as it is. I get it, I don't want it, but if people want it bad enough, they need to petition (in some way) to have ED work to include these things into the base game. As each mod can do these tweaks, then it couldn't be that hard for them to merge it into their system.
