Does the monitor stick out an inch or two farther away now from the rig? Did you notice any difference in balance when going handheld?

@@DavidBlodgett yes it’s about .75” more to the left. It’s not as noticeable as I thought. I have a lightweight monitor. With the Sony side grip on the body, it is still balanced. But good question. I wondered the same. The lighter the monitor the better.

There isn’t too much information about the longevity of these products. Everyone just reviews them after 1 day of use. It’s great to hear that other people in these comments had had good long term satisfaction with this mount.

I have the SmallHD Cine5 that I use with my FX6, and in order to install a NATO rail on the side, it requires using SmallHD's proprietary locating hole system and screw or going in just straight 1/4 20". It really sucks that they (SmallHD) doesn't use an standard ARRI locating holes to allow for the use of mounts with ARRI locating pins, and and at the same time doesn't make a NATO Rail themselves that fits their own stupid system... Thank goodness for Kondor Blue filling the Gap, as they have a NATO Rail (Kondor Blue Monitor Cage NATO Rail (2", Black) that can adapt to SmallHD locating interface..

I was perplexed by smallhd’s incompatibility with Arri locating holes as well. But I just screwed a normal nato rail in with a 1/4-20”. I like small rigs low profile nato

I have used the Kondor Blue one for a year now and it’s still perfect. I recently bought a second for my other rig. It’s the only monitor mount I’ve ever had that hasn’t faded after a few days or months of use

On the uwp system make sure the switch on the bottom of the smad adapter is switched to digital not analog. Took me a few weeks to realize mine was still in analog not digital.

@@davidmorefieldthe difference is cleaner audio. If you switch it to digital it stays in the digital realm once the audio comes into the belt pack A-D converter. If it’s in analog it converts it back to analog then the fx6 converts it back to digital

Man that LCD flippable viewfinder from sony and panasonic are amazing. But I think the f5 and burano are the only cameras that have large sensors that use em. I need a viewfinder eyecup, but being able to flip it out to show clients in a second is just *chefs kiss*. Sony DVF-L350 is one of its model numbers. Ey!!! 7 artisans is a contender for the new duvo fuji lenses before they come out. It lacks a servo but thats it. thats AWESOME! Especially cause I hate changing lenses lol.

I use the NATOclamp (N54-H2) from Nitze on my PortKeys LH7P w/ Nitze cage mounted similarly on the left of my A7IV rig. Tilt & fold in so if I know I need my camera rigged for a shoot I can set it up the night before and drop it in to my rig bag and don't need to bring my Nanuk 935. I don't ever shoulder rig it, but I love it set up this way.

I’m definitely doing something similar, I’ll see if this’ll work for my rig! I shoot one-man-op commercial and lifestyle work with my R5c and I hate how top-heavy the monitor makes it and usually don’t use it unless it’s on a tripod.

Lmk how it goes but the o my way it will balance is if you have a longer camera to offset the weight in front. Also if you can eliminate the heavy battery in a monitor and just run a power cord to the vmount in the back, that will help. From my experience, I now keep small cameras small and big cameras big. I found too many limitations when I try to change what they were designed for.

@@davidmorefield 100%, overrigging a small camera body feels a bit wrong a lot of times. I lose the portability and light weight when adding a lot of things so I stick to the essentials most of the time.

Kondor blue has the best support. If it does not retain the tension they probably exchange it for you if you send it back.

@@davidmorefieldtheir magic arm is the goat , it can endure 8 Kilograms, i literally use it 90% of the time as a top handle and i just grabbing my komodo from the titan . It has the monitor attached and i do not use top handles because of that 😂

I noticed that you can see your focus tracking point in your small HD monitor. I’m shooting on the Sony A7S3 and I cannot see that on my small HD monitor while shooting. Did you have to select something special inside the camera to allow that visual?

No, I just have the display info sending out through sdi. I’m pretty sure you can send out af info on a7s3

Hey David commenting from Atlanta, love your content bro! Thanks bro bringing some much value to the owner-operators with FX6. Question: when using the Small HD, do you ever run into situations where you want to use AF? Why not use a traditional cinema lens for more fine-tuned focusing options if not? Also, 2 parter, how do you rig your camera with touch AF and a small HD monitor if the client requests that or if it applies to your production needs? Thanks dude!!!

I use af a lot! Especially for interviews. No issues when using autofocus and my smallhd monitor. I usually put it in face only mode so there’s no chance it’ll jump to anyone else. There will be random times I need tap to focus but it’s not common bc the af is so good already. When I do need it, I put on the oem monitor.

Is that a smallhd monitor? Where do you put the stock VF monitor for controlling your camera? The fx6 doesn't have camera control for external monitors is that correct?

Smallhd 502 Bright. I don’t need the stock monitor. You can send the On Screen Display (menu, settings, everything you see on the VF) to an external monitor and use the buttons to control like normal. I don’t need touch focus. The autofocus is great, especially with Eye Only.

Love how it folds and holds tension but i'm curious. It looks like its positioned to the left more. Is that a comfortable viewing experience? I usually like my monitor tucked to the right more.

I had the same concern before purchasing. It pushes it about .75 inches to the left. I’ll gladly take that sacrifice to afford me the fold-ability.
