yeah the cross paddle is caused by North/North West swell bouncing off the jetty. the place is absolutely wicked in the end of summer with a South swell whipping around the jetty into a warm offshore wind if your into this type of stuff. when it's firing oak and brook reefs in Laguna, salt creek or trestles is where I'll be.

Knowning socal it's just kelp, it could be a seal or shark i've seen them too but 99% of the time it's kelp.
